The name sounds like an off beat train whistle. But, he’s good player.

He looks a little Duke Shelley’ish. Maybe we should’ve kept Duke and drafted DL.

Good one. I was going to say Duke wasn't tall enough but Blackman is?

Shelly is 5’8”. A great story last year but he looked good on our bottom defense which means he wasn’t a total sieve.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 9:34:37 AM)

Seems reasonable to expect DL or LB in the 4th, although QB will be in play forever until we get one.

Tom Sykes -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 9:37:58 AM)

Be nice to add some height+speed ratios to the defense, especially at LB and CB.

CBs Ringo, Smith from MN both fit that. LB Shaka Heyward is big long armed thumper who can move.

DT Keandre Coburn is squatty girthy inside dude with a littke more juice - athleticism than the usual plugger.

Pretty sure besides Ringo, Edge dudes Tavius Robinson and KJ Henry will be scooped up today early, wouldnt mind one at all.

Yes to QBs Harner or DTR for camp arms.

DE.

Pre-Draft Analysis
Adebawore is a power-based pass-rusher who gets under offensive linemen and drives them back to the quarterback. As a run defender, he has the strength to set the edge and quickly disengage. He has excellent speed and makes a lot of plays pursuing from the backside. His quick first step and upper-body strength give interior linemen problems when he kicks inside to tackle. At the NFL combine, he ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.49 seconds) of any player over 280 pounds there since at least 2006. -- Steve Muench

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 9:54:30 AM)

Blackmon was a strong tackler for the Trojans last season. He missed only three tackles on 864 snaps in 2022 for a 95.3 tackle rate, the highest in the Pac-12. That'll be an important skill if it can translate at the NFL level, given how often the Vikings are likely to have their cornerbacks in press man coverage.

Tom Sykes -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 10:05:09 AM)

One of the key advantages of having a really bad defense is that these late rd picks and UDFAs will get actual opportunities.

Most teams are pitching tryouts after the 3rd rd, Viktor the Viking is out there twirling a ‘buy an italian villa for $1’ sign and other propaganda like a big ol’ floosy.

And let them fight for the $1-2 million in available cap space.

ESPN's Fowler was told the Vikings are prepared to absorb Cook's contract. Which translates to he will be cut if they can't get a late pick for him today. The $6M in cap savings will pay for the rookies.

Wonder how much the OSU game hurt Ringo. He just couldn't stay with the OSU WRs

marty -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 10:27:22 AM)

Is CB Kelee Ringo UGA another CB/S hybrid, or did he drop because of off field concerns, or injury concerns ?

Ringo looks quite good in highlights, and he had a sold 40 time.

I think because his on field play doesn't match his measurables, despite playing on an elite front 7

Go watch that OSU bowl game, he was getting cooked all game.

marty -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 10:43:51 AM)

Thank you Arlowe. So Ringo was ranked higher than he should have been.

The average NFL CB is just under 6 feet. Blackmon is 5' 11". I hope both draftees put on some weight w/o sacrificing quickness.

Blackmon is 24. I'm pretty sure what you see is what you get.

Rob Viking -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:06:12 AM)

Would love to get CB Clark Phillips from Utah. That dude was always around the ball, completely blanketing receivers. He's a little undersized but incredible value at this stage. I didn't think he'd make it past the 2nd round.

Rob Viking -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:07:39 AM)

Ringo, was always around the ball as well. The Georgia secondary worries me since their front 7 was so disruptive. We saw what NFL receivers from Ohio state did to them in the playoffs.

Ryan Buckingham -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:23:30 AM)

Boy the Eagles really love those UGA defenders! What do they have 5 starters from the 2021 Champs?

I just don't want to draft a Jaylen Holmes-type "tweener" that really can't do anything at DT and is too slow to rush from the DE position. We seem to draft more of those guys in the 4th round than we really need....like the guy the Packers picked from Auburn.

He should be a very good nickel corner. Shoot Atlanta picked him while I was writing.

CB Darius Rush
OC Luke Wypler

Fast LB
Owen Pappoe

Big LB
Nick Herbig
maybe Henry To'oTo'o
Noah Sewell

So if 5'10" is avg CB height how much can 5'8 hinder one if that guy has all-over-you coverage skills? What types of passes can beat that guy but not someone 5'10" - 6'2"? Seems silly to me for that to be such a big focus if you have a guy that has got everything needed for CB skills except 2" of height.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:47:28 AM)

DT or DE suitable for the 3-4 please...

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:49:36 AM)

Dang trade

Ricky J -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:50:53 AM)

OMG
Waching the Vikes draft can be such a buzz kill!

Ryan Buckingham -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:50:59 AM)

So we traded our 119 for a 5th round pick next year? I am so sick of these trade downs at the time of the trade down, but sometimes I am happy with the haul LOL!

I doubt we made that trade.

TJSweens -> RE: 2023 NFL Draft (4/29/2023 11:52:48 AM)
