It's hard to imagine arguing such small parameters. It was great but not that great.

I'm not discounting anything! It was an amazing one- handed catch.
But it always amazes me how everytime someone makes a one-handed catch people think it's the greatest thing ever.
At training camp, playing catch, Carter would, in one motion, one- hand a
catch and throw it behind his back into the seats.
This isn't the first time I've said it, go out in the back yard and take a stab at a few.

But yes this was a step up or two, and the situation was unreal

And all of those were in no pressure situations - and without defenders.

And its not just "someone" making a big deal about it. Its HoF WRs and current great players making a huge deal about it.

Right. And the moment and the pressure make some better.
All those HOFers could make the same catch.
Where i jumped on board was it wasn't an Impossible catch - for those people - with the idea that one handed catches are giving too much credit as great not saying this wasnt incredible.

- some things you don't touch, this is one of them, as i found out ...

This catch was far more than just a "one-handed" catch.

thebigo -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/24/2023 11:03:04 AM)

So, can anyone identify a better catch? Or even an equal one?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/24/2023 11:46:13 AM)

The defender on the play, said something to the effect, that next time he would just knock the ball down, instead of trying for the interception.

Diggs had almost an equal in the same game.

There isn't much these guys can't do.
One can only imagine the stuff they pull off in practice

Maybe it could be argued "ripping it out of the defenders hands" providesd the stability he needed to maintain control

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/24/2023 2:16:39 PM)

The catch where moss positioned himself perfectly and jumped over Woodson to snatch the ball from in front of Woodson comes to mind. A great catch for the ages that is famous and still underrated. It’s underrated because the genius of it was how moss took away a sure INT and turned it into a catch with his incredible skill of knowing where the ball was going and positioning himself properly. No other WR in history had that combo of awareness and leaping ability.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/24/2023 2:40:06 PM)

I have heard it said that Moss had some amazing catches during practices, ones that some veterans had never seen before.

I think it helped to have a guy with some of the best hands there too showing drills (Carter).

Not close. That was an 8 WR's out of 10 could have caught one.

Agreed. That was a fine catch, but one that I would be surprised to see Diggs or Jefferson not make.

Thielen had 1 or 2 similar catches, I remember 1 specifically, where the defender was faceguarding him, and he reached both hands around the guy to pick the pass off the back of the guys helmet.

I want the best right guard we can get - move ingram to the left side and make cleveland an all-purpose backup lineman...maybe even trade o'neill next year and move cleveland to right tackle....

we're going to pay darisaw and Jefferson....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/25/2023 2:16:36 AM)

I like the way you think Rapt, some good ideas there.

I was hoping they would flip Cleveland and Ingram this off-season.

It was 4th down. Trying for the int was poor awareness on his part.

Christian Darrisaw also made a remark that facing Ed Donatell's defense in practice didn't prepare them for games.

"Those [Flores] looks, we weren't seeing those last year, and we'd kind of get into games and teams would run a certain defense and we were negatively affected."

-After two practices, Alexander Mattison used "intense" four times to describe the defense under Brian Flores: "Mentally from the backfield looking at that defensive front, those backers and how they’re moving around -- the way they’re lining up out the gate is very intense."

I listened to a podcast yesterday where they were at the recent practices and they said "within 10 minutes you could see how different Flores' D is going to be". They were stunned.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/25/2023 6:17:45 PM)

Nice 👍.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/25/2023 6:31:53 PM)

The Kirk crusaders have argued that Kirk hasn't had a top defense to slow the other team down, but also to practice against, and sharpen the Viking offense's skills.

Maybe this will lead to fewer lulls, and the Vikings offense converting more 3rd downs, and getting more points.

13-4 again ? Plus a deep playoff run?
