To quote countless wise sages, your record is who you are.

Of course, I dont disagree with you, but hey, just responding to, "Technically two plays away from tying the game ..."

Technically, if we dont have two crucial fumbles, who knows ...

Semantics can spin things positively, too.

Imagine if we'd just spiked the ball.

Right! Makes you wonder what O'Connell was saying to our guy during the extended conv, doesn't it?

we needed a leader on the field and didn't have one....

What a bunch of shit!

Since we're talking hypotheticals...

Cousins was playing great before he was injured but just imagine what our season(record) would be like if Dobbs had been on the team from training camp and our starting QB?

We’d be 7-3 with about $30 million more in cap space for this year and no $28.5 million dead cap hit in 2024. That’s enough for two more stars somewhere else on the roster.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/15/2023 9:00:26 AM)

I'm excited to see what Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu can do for us Sunday night but I'm also not as optimistic as many online fans (twitter, facebook, what-have-you) are. Mattison doesn't get a lot of love (rightfully so - he's mediocre to poor) but all the replacements and backups have been highly touted. Unfortunately the stats and results don't agree.

Mattison: 130 carries for 461 yards, 0 rushing TDs, long of 19, 3.5 yards/carry, 24 catches on 36 targets for 164 yards, 6.8 yards per catch, 3 receiveing TDs

Cam Akers: 38 carries for 138 yards, 1 rushing TD, long of 19, 3.6 yards/carry, 11 catches on 12 targets for 70 yards, 6.4 yards per catch, 0 receiving TDs

Ty Chandler: 23 carries for 87 yards, 1 rushing TD, long of 15, 3.8 yards/carry, 5 catches on 6 targets for 43 yards, 8.6 yards per catch, 0 receiving TDs

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/15/2023 10:08:48 AM)

If we had the 1998 era OL, Chandler would be fine. Without it, he's the best among the RBs we have. That's not saying much, but there is no reason not to start him indefinitely.

Thought the Mattison-Oliver thing was going to make the running game hum. I crowned him, but Mattison is who we thought he was!

I also thought Murphy would bring some stability and consistency to one CB position. Yikes. We need DL and CB bad.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/15/2023 10:12:21 AM)

Wish Dobbs is the real deal AND we can sign him cheap AND with QB settled we go defense in the draft. Alas, the odds of all three of those things happening are zero.

The real blip in those stats is Mattison's poor catch rate.

The modern NFL suggests you need a QB that can create, extend plays, etc. and a RB that is a natural pass catcher.

Who is this "Cousins" you speak of? Have also read about someone named "Captain Kirk". And "KFC".

NONE of them are on the Minnesota Vikings depth chart: https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/MIN

1-4 with JJ, 5-0 w/out
Can we go 4-0 w/out Hicks

At least the conversation in here has changed from ‘he who wont be named’. We’ve busted out of that little gerbil wheel.

I thought the conversation would have to wait for the draft. Whether Dobbs has any long term impact, its just fun to be in a forward looking phase.

These things rarely turn out … maybe its just a practice run for the draft version.

Also, it sure feels more like a KOC and KAM flavored team than ever before.

This has been an unusual year for QBs league-wide, and it's likely they will be a hot draft commodity. Using our current draft position (21st), I don't think the usual suspects will be available. That leaves possibilities such as a head-scratching reach, taking a boom/bust type, or an injured guy. Or a pure luck-based 7th round Purdy type enters the picture.

Forget Dobbs being a bridge to a drafted QB. Because of a lack of options with draftees and vets, we very well may be running back the current QB situation next year.

As it should be---conversation about Kirk should be equal to the conversation of Cam Akers. I blame the Sans group....[:D]

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/16/2023 10:17:32 AM)

I wouldnt be surprised if Dobbs is the real deal. It wouldn't be the first time that someone turned out to be special bc they actually, by chance, became something special bc of unusual circumstances that they weren't going to get otherwise. Warner and Thielen are a couple of examples that come to mind. I'm sure they're are some more.

You can't always count on the coaches and traditional ways to find a diamond. We'll see

this links to the nytimes controlled path to the playoffs for each team - at this moment, the vikings have an 84% chance of making the playoffs - if we beat the broncos it becomes 92%....

Warner got better because of the Arena League, and NFL Europe. I wish the NFL would buy the XFL/USFL and allow teams to plant 2nd and 3rd stringers in there. It would help NFL QB play considerably.

(lived on same floor as him in college for 2+ years, he is the real deal as far as demeanor and kindness, he was like that in college)

Weird not one post about the defense needing a leader to step up on a 30th ranked defense. 0.0% heat on Zed, Hunter, PP, Kendricks and Harry for losses last year even though it was obviously a coaching issue prior to KOC on both sides of the ball...but when the team loses games it is the QBs fault and it his leadership to blame....weird crowd around here.

FYI as an example Harry didn't take the shot either and believes in God...he went to Notre Dame in fact.

We are talking about football right? NFL football?

If it were the water polo vikings, you could argue about the horses slipping on the bottom of the pool … but in football, the qb has a slightly bigger impact than a safety.
