A fun fact:

The Timberwolves haven't lost a game since J Dobbs became a Viking!

- that's great stuff

Full story on Hicks and Barr:

Vikings' Jordan Hicks in hospital after developing compartment syndrome

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38890890/vikings-jordan-hicks-hospital-developing-compartment-syndrome

Compartment syndrome
A painful and dangerous condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues.
The pressure decreases blood flow, depriving muscles and nerves of needed nourishment.

Not a good thing..

That sounds bad. It's a good thing our physios picked up that it was a big problem rather than just a knock on his shin.

Kevin O'Connell says the thing as he puts together an impressive offensive showing this season without Justin Jefferson and a new kind of quarterback:

"There's no rule saying you have to stay the same throughout the season, you can evolve."

Definitely not a word in Mike Zimmer's vocabulary.

That's why I like KOC as head coach. He is willing to adjust his offence around the players he's got. Plus he is willing to admit his own faults publicly.

Evolving an offense during the season? Well duh...but so many egotistical horse's asses think you can just run your system with whomever you've got....remember the KICKASS offense?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 11:48:39 AM)

I haven't found an article on it, but saw a YouTube video last night that said the Vikings have signed LB Anthony Barr.

Any thoughts on this ?

I see my take on Belicheck being the most over rated coach in history looks solid

Various Sirius NFL radio shows have been reporting talks of an in-season firing for him. That would be the most NFL thing ever. Not saying he doesn't deserve to be fired but in season? For Bill? Yikes!

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 12:07:50 PM)

From a simple Points Against perspective, the last four opponents should help a lot the Dobbs analysis. GB is surprisingly good, Cincy is around 13th, and the Lions are middle of the pack. No top defenses, but also no cupcakes. Of course there is far more to that stat, like certain offenses score more, sustain drives, etc. which helps the defenses. But the schedule is what it is. And those four games are split into two home and two away. Dobbs will have settled in a bit more. DCs will have the video, etc. All good for analysis on how to approach Dobbs in the offseason.

Wonder if he was the impetus behind trading players after they peak, trading second rounders for next years first, etc. He at least signed off on those decisions. Perhaps he should retire and resurface as a consultant of sorts.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 12:22:11 PM)

KOC gets props from Monday to Saturday, but on Sunday on the Gameday thread he needs to give up play-calling, is stubborn, has no imagination, has no clue of the clock, etc, etc. Playing Jordan Love, Taylor Heinicke, and Jameis Winston the last three weeks certainly helps on the Mon-Sat thing [&:][&:]

He got nothing but praise the first half of the Saints game.

The second half was a different story.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 12:57:44 PM)

In KOC's defense, he hasn't had a lot of experience with Kirk getting him 3 TD leads by halftime.

Hopefully Dobbs (or any other Vikings' QB) will get KOC more 3 TD leads by halftime, so he gets more experience with that.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 12:59:06 PM)

Also, the Vikings DID win this game.

Being more aggressive, could also have led to the Saints coming back, and the Vikings losing the game.

I think you should play it more conservative against teams that are about equal (like NO), or lesser. Against what is probably a better team (Philly or KC), I would agree with staying aggressive in the 2nd half, if you have a 3 TD lead by halftime.

But they did come back. And were one play away from tying the game.

You never play "not to lose".

Technically two plays away from tying the game - would have needed a successful two-point conversion.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 1:39:29 PM)

KOC did go in to brain fart mode in the 2nd half. The 50+ FG attempt was dumb with that kicker and he had about 4 series that went:

Maddison for no gain
Maddison for -2
incomplete pass on 3rd and long that had no chance of success

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 1:58:09 PM)

But had the Vikings played more aggressively early in the 2nd half, the Saints may have come back sooner, and then gone on to win the game.

With Kamara having already converted two straight two-point conversions, call it one long play.

Same with Mattison [8|]

So we have Darisaw, Riesner, Bradberry, Ingraham, O'Neal, and now Maddison. The OC is O'Donnell. Thank god for JJ, Hock, and Ham [&:]

In a bizarre twist, the names of the defensive players and DC are spot on... and that's with Asamoah and Metellus! [:D] Not even the occasional Murphie or Blackman!

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/14/2023 2:37:21 PM)

Coaches sometimes just use numbers. "What is 77 doing??"

Mahomes too. "Way to go 88!"

Zimmer skipped names and numbers. "Why is that asshole a foot from where he is supposed to line up?"

Dobbs just refers to everyone in generic terms. "That guy made a great block."

Dobbs has played a little more than 7 quarters for us. Let's see how this plays out a little longer before we hammer out a contract extension and decide to build the offense around him for the next few years.

He's performed!! When I saw he had been on 9 NFL rosters it got me wondering a bit?
He's looking good in Purple so far.

Hockenson is 75% of the star we need him to be. He gutted it out today and some of his best highlights the last few weeks have him dragging escaping dragging guys for extra yards. If he could just start making more of some of the tougher catches.

During the broadcast they said he has more receptions than any other TE this year and is second in yards. I don't know what more fans want from him? He's easily in the top 5 to 7 TE in the league. Hell of a good player and glad he's on our team as he's a difference maker.

Love Hock. Tough and consistent. He's good!!
