IDK…taking 5 minutes to let things play out and having hope to see a spark and a few wins in a row seems like a nice place to be.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 10:31:15 AM)

Hall could make all the bad QB vibes go away.

No more retreads, never were, bloated contracts. Just grab a guy next year and let he and Hall compete.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 10:32:49 AM)

If JJ plays to the contract he wants he can lead us to a few straight wins. Hall has to be going in knowing where his bread is buttered.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 10:37:26 AM)

Losing these last 2 would be the right move moving forward. We need draft capitol badly. There are 3 primary positions in todays NFL and we are bare boned in all 3 thanks to KAM (and RS to a certain extent)

QB
DE
CB

The 3 most important positions are our biggest question marks [:@]

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 10:39:53 AM)

Its got to be rough for Hall, or any backup QB, to get a start while basically cold. Conversely, DCs don't have any info on his tendencies, style of play, etc.

He’ll have no chance if the guy calling plays doesn’t pull his head out of his ass. You have a known TO machine behind center and call 11 total runs…..brilliant [&o]

Yes, that isn't all KAM's fault.

He all but totally whiffed on Cine and Booth, and an alternative pick at #12 instead of getting cute could have addressed one of those defensive needs. And leaning on crutch (not clutch) Cousins was also the easy way out. But at least he didn't sign Cousins to another extension.

But Spielman left things in a lurch with no cap to keep players or sign players because it was going to the overpaid vets. Overall, IMO KAM lost a year in the multi-year rebuild with the bad first draft and keeping many of the band-aids intact.

A case of damned if you do, damned if you don't because the running game was shit.

Which is part of a bigger problem.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 10:55:32 AM)

If we end up slotted in the 20 range, I hope they seriously look at a CB or Edge if a good one falls rather than do a Ponder-esque reach after watching the top projected QBs get picked.

Detroit is #4 in the league in run defense giving up 90.6 per game. It was smart to try and throw on them instead. Our mistake was putting Mullens in there as the QB.

Trailing off... figured part of the reason their run D is 4th in yards per game rushing is because they score a lot, which forces teams to pass to keep up. And that is supported by Det being 3rd in total TDs. Yet they are also 4th in defensive yards per carry.

If they could tighten their pass D they might have something special.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 2:41:30 PM)

Where does Detroit rank for scoring in the 1st quarter, and for the first half ?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 2:42:59 PM)

Dan will like this article (I like it as well), it doesn't see bringing back Cousins as a good idea for Minnesota:

So according to this guy, all options are bad, but drafting a QB may be the least bad?

Not to mention DT's and IOL, while not as high profile, you win games in the trenches and we are weak in both.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2023 4:30:11 PM)

Man.. every time I watch the real playoff contenders play, even on their worst days, even if they get beat. The difference in their offense and defensive philosophy is glaringly obviously better than the crap we trot out there …

Vikings Way..

“Alllllllllmost!!”..

Thank you, sir, may I have another…wasted season and horrible draft?

Joe Flaco is a far better QB than KFC will EVER be..

Stefanski's 4th starting QB this season. They also lost one of the best pure running RB's in the league. Last night they didn't have their best WR. Clinched a playoff spot (11-5) with a 38 year old QB that nobody seemed to want, a QB that has reached the highest of levels.

My fear is that Hall will look devinely mediocre to finish out, then our front office will be in a real pickle....they'll give Cousins the bag (again) and be perfectly happy with Hall as a backup, based on two games. Then maybe we draft a QB in the 6th Round, and when he's forced to play, because the other two suck, we can give him a cute nickname and delusionally anoint him our QB of the future.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/30/2023 9:27:09 AM)

Just read and maybe missed it here but I guess we ignored Joe Flacco’s call when he showed interest in joining the team after Cousins went down.

Man we have shit leadership.

I'll give them a break on this one. Flacco was like 3-14 in his last 17 games he started(before Cleveland). I could just hear the moans and rants in here about another immobile QB.

But, for right now, Stefanski>KOC

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/30/2023 10:38:48 AM)

It was the funnest thing that could have happened for fans …

It was the worst thing that could have happened to a bunch of newbies trying to build a franchise …

Maxing out on luck in 2022.

It has stunted our development. Too much belief in what we accomplished last year … too much self-reinforcement from 13-4 and not enough concern for the mediocre team that entered the playoffs. Even though the only real change we made from 2021 is the one thing that has improved this year, Flores.

Otherwise, everything else is status quo. Stick to the plan. Play it close and call it conservative regardless of the opponent or situation. It worked last year on paper …

oops injury, oops we aren’t playing teams with 3rd string QBs (all the time), oops didn’t get favorable calls, etc etc … didn’t see that coming / didn’t prepare or alter course or put contingencies in place.

Doubling down this year on Cousins and Mullens, adding a fifth round pick - couldn’t be any more short-sighted or dumb for an organization’s standard operating 2 to 3 or 4 year plan. Thats a year by year placeholder plan.

Like everybody, I’m going to hope that Hall has something. Which again is staking the franchise on getting lucky.

Getting tired of this.

If KAM is an analytics man like he claims to be, a mobile QB has to be the plan. Good year to draft one.

Maybe Levis turns into something. But, we may have dodged a bullet by skipping out on QBs last year and drafting one this year.

If I remember right, most of those backup QBs were lighting us up for 300-400 yards and multiple TDs and having career games.

Fair enough. You gave me better perspective.
