Now it's crunch time....
Has the roar been restored or are they the same old Lions that always find a way to lose?

The latter, me thinks...

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 8:01:22 PM)

Huge 3rd down drop.

Perfect throw.

It looks like someone’s got a case of the yips right now…

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 8:25:28 PM)

Dan Campbell is his own worst enemy…

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 8:30:04 PM)

Hmmmmm Brock Purdy.. or KFC…

This loss is on Campbell..

He’s an emotional decision maker and it kills his team.

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 8:34:15 PM)

This collapse rivals if not exceeds anything the Vikes have ever done to cough up an important game.

And at the absolute worst times...
Taking points today and I think Lions win.

Kwesi looking especially dopey today. Hamilton was incredible and now Williams has an incredible play for the Lions.

Williams has been extremely disappointing for such a high pick...

UNTIL YOU COMPARE HIM TO CINE! [&:]

Man, Trent McDuffie would have been a great pick if you didn't want Hamilton... such a disaster of a draft.

Let's hope they don't recover. Like Atlanta did after SB choke.

You gotta read the game. The Lions were pounding them. Then they didn't convert and the Niners got life. Go up 3 scores.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 9:31:23 PM)

The coolest thing I saw was the fact that the Lions had a real Lion at the games of yesteryear. That was pretty surprising!

Just saying ...

No doubt there would of been quite a few people in here super impressed with Dan C if he'd made the first down.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 9:58:57 PM)

I’d still take him over KOC…

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/28/2024 10:26:36 PM)

Well my interest in the SB just plummeted to ZERO.

Two teams with previous appearances and wins..

Boring..

Could NOT possibly care less..

It will be interesting to see how he does if/when Carson moves on.

Looks like a potentially great Super Bowl to me. The Niners better figure out how to stop the run or Pacheco is going to have a big day.

I'm just glad the Lions didn't win. I told my buddy at half if the Lions win the Super Bowl before the Vikings, I will have to stop watching the NFL.

It was a great year for the Lions, but a few more moves like Dan Campbell made yesterday will have him out on the streets looking for a job. It bordered on Brandon Staley stupidity. Never give up points in the playoffs, especially when you have a chance to make it a three-score game. Coaching malpractice.

And can we quit calling his offensive coordinator a great coach? What the Lions have is an exceptional offensive line with some really exciting weapons. About 25 of the offensive coordinators would look great with those tools.

What the Vikings and the rest of the league should be looking at is the Lions' GM Brad Holmes. That's the guy that built the team.

Just noticed, it looks like you're basically talking about the first failed attempt, I actually missed that one live, and was referring to the last failed attempt - jtbc

I don't know what I would of done but my thoughts were certainly along those lines and I don't feel even a little bad that they lost. I used to root for the Lions when you could count on them getting 3rd in the division - I'm sure most can relate.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/29/2024 9:19:17 AM)

Right that OL is DETs biggest weapon. The RBs are stellar, they have one gamer at WR and a young TE who is going to be really good. Their defense is vulnerable but decent with some good young talent. The coach is all attitude, not smarts.

I thought DET really played SF back on their heels in the first half but could not hold up to their own forced and unforced miscues under pressure. The lucky facemask bounce, dropped passes, the fumble, the bad coaching decisions …

ALSO a qb who was playing well but at the mercy of what the defense was giving him versus a qb breaking down a defense just enough for the win.

Gee where have we seen that equation …

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/29/2024 10:05:53 AM)

Detroit went into the 2nd half up 17 points and had (I believe) 133 rushing yards in the first half. They chose to run the ball eight times in the second half. Count them - eight attempts. Dan "emotional gamble" Campbell lost them that game.

Here’s the thing with Campbell’s oft discussed aggressive 4th down approach. First, yes I believe he’s absolutely right, in general teams should go for it on 4th down far more often than they do. I’m sure you could find statistical analysis to back that up if you were less lazy than I am. I admire him for being unconventional and not doing things a certain way because that’s always how it’s been done.

BUT, you can’t just look at numbers overall, you have to look at the entire game situation. And each one is different. Campbell erred in this game.

If they successfully attempt the FG on the first situation where they went for it and didn't make it, they go up by 17 points (three scores). This might have been enough to deflate the Niners hopes. Instead the Niners got handed momentum and they ran with it.

EDIT - To put it more clearly - the Lions would have been up 17 with just seven minutes left in the third quarter. That's a damn dagger.
