Always a pleasure reading the posts here, I can feel the passion from the Viking brethren.

A few thoughts:
I loved watching the lions choke. Many want new blood winning. If the lions win a bowl before we do I’m done. Same reason I didn’t want the aints to win, the bills to win, Cincinnati, the Texans , etc. it was hard enough to see the buccaneers win ffs. I’m a Viking from birth to death and screw all the superbowless teams hanging with us. I root for us to be the next off the winless list always, and none of the others. We’ve had a lot of teams that could’ve would’ve but never did. Let the other teams feel that despair too.

We need a. QB. We need OL and DL upgrades. We need secondary improvement Our coach needs balls and to shed his toxic positivity. Our GM needs to stop shorting stock and hedge fund managing and learn to build a freaking team. We need some ice cold in our participation trophy regime. Cut the high priced, low performers and draft some studs damnit!!!

The Lions have drafted well despite prideful emotion drives Campbell. The Pack has drafted well despite ego driven lafleur. The Vikings have drafted horrendously and also have a conservative empath not willing to make tough choices. The bears….well they may overtake us too if we continue on this path of incompetency.

I want to see a superbowl before I’m gone. We need a QB to get there. Mahommes and Brady have proven that. There are KC and NE teams that had no business even making the Super Bowl let alone win it, save for a great QB and coach. KFC is not it. I don’t want competitive failure. Reach for the stars and live with the risk. Get that QB or keep trying until we do. Otherwise we’re just a perennial competitive loser at best.

Cheers Viking brethren, may the odds be in our favor.
-Mockingjay.

Toxic positivity. Hit the nail on the head.

We don't need Parcells or Zimmer type ripping (on players)but a happy medium would be nice.

I want to get along with people. But I really don’t mind if my football team is a bunch of lousy stinking jerks that physically abuse other football teams.

Yes, like the old Raiders. Although they'd all be suspended in today's NFL.

Re Parcells and Zimmer above. Zimmer said he often sought out advice from Parcells. Parcells used to say he adapted to each player, for example he could push Lawrence Taylor a lot and he'd respond as opposed to some other player.

What Parcells said: "You have to be an asshole and lay down the law, but you have to tailor what you say to each player."
What Zimmer heard: "You have to be an asshole and lay down the law."

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/1/2024 12:01:28 PM)

Ricky, I am not sure exactly what you mean by joining the like-minded crew, but if that means moving on from Cousins, I am definitely in that group.

Cousins would give the possibility of beating any team in the division in the regular season, but would likely lead to either the team missing the playoffs, or getting knocked out in the 1st round. Why spend loads of money on Cousins for that ?

This is the time to go with a rookie QB, take a step backwards (likely getting swept by Detroit and GB), to go 2 steps forward in 2025.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/1/2024 12:07:45 PM)

I don't think it's been conclusively proven that having a young QB sit behind a veteran is always the best route.

You might just be delaying his development in experience by a year. It's sort of a luxury, and would be an expensive luxury for the Vikings to have a young QB sit behind Kirk.

Would Dan Marino, Big Ben, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, CJ Stroud, all have been better if they had sat behind a veteran for a year, I stead of starting when they did ?

Are there some QBs that started out slow after sitting behind a veteran, would some of them had been better off playing right away ? Would Jordan Love had been better this year, if he had played a full season in 2022 ?

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/1/2024 12:10:37 PM)

Tom Brady threw 3 passes as a rookie...

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/1/2024 12:29:16 PM)

So if Tom had played right away his first year, is it possible he would have gotten another ring in his career?

Sure!

Also possible he could've hurt his development.

We'll never know.

Agreed. 3 years is a really long time to sit. And it forces you to make a 2nd contract decision with too small of a sample.

If Love sat for 2 years instead of 3, he likely has his early season growing pains and strong finish last year. And then GB would've had a better version of Love this year, and who knows how far they'd have gone? And you can probably push the timeframe back another year.

My take is there are guys who are ready Day 1, and others who would likely benefit from sitting anywhere from 6-8 games to a full year.

If a QB needs to sit for 2 years or more, they're a serious project that probably should've been drafted on Day 3.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/1/2024 4:36:04 PM)

Life is fun. Not only do you get to live the adventure in real time and deal with all the the crap that happens or with things that certainly could be better, you also get to be squashed for being able to see how things might have been better if not for x,y,z.

I don’t mind losing myself to what ifs. Life (mostly) stinks.

New poll shows that 92% of Vikings fans want Kirk Cousins extended for a few more years.

-- I'm guessing no one around here got that call to participate ... ha ha

I'm guessing nobody participated.

I would guess that if a poll was done it would have to include cost. 2/90 would be 92% against. 2/60 would probably be 50%.

Assuming the achilles is fine I'd still hold out. He owes us more of a discount than that

Just send him packing.

I think so. It seems like the money is as polarizing for some fans as opinions about his ability.

I've made it clear where I stand ... 0/0 ... but I get that simply isn't where the team stands.

on vikingsterritory.com they have a poll running that uses the $90mm/2yr deal, and it's at 85% against giving him that contract....

we absolutely have to draft a QB in the 1st round this year...we might not be this close again for a while....

I agree with drafting a QB in the first, but I'm afraid that we're going to be drafting in the top 10 based on Kwesi's very short draft history.

R U thinking of Leslie? I remember Rhodes and Waynes being tight coverage until injuries took their toll. Flores rushed 3 a lot to protect our CB in Zone the last few games....need talent to put talent on an island.

That was 2015. We went 11-5 with Teddy Bridgewater as QB. Our defense ranked 5th overall in points and 13th in yards. Teddy threw for all of 14 TD passes that season. Adrian Peterson ran for 1485 yards and 11 TDs.

2017 Vikes were #1 defense in points against.

When Zim has premium talent he has done well on defense.
Dallas has talent.
I suspect he would do well there.

A tale of two Zimmers.

In 2014, Zimmer's first year, I remember thinking we were building in a good direction. Even during / after 7-9-0.

We had improved from 5-10-1 the previous year, we had drafted a QB ... the defense was improving

Followed by a better year in 2015. A playoff game in unreal conditions – Walsh making three FGs, the offense putting us in position to win the game, then the miss.

(So vastly different from what I'm feeling after two years of Kwesi Kevin.)

Then falling off a cliff in 2016 and the start of the Zimmer rollercoaster ... down one season, up one season, down one season ...until petering out.

Premium talent does that for any coach.

I thought Zimmer changed a lot over his last few seasons. maybe that was all the HC and GM turbulance going through his head but his defensive players – premium or below average – didn't look well coached. At all.

Will be interesting to see how he does if gets the job.

Premium talent helps... but MANY coaches are still able to easily sqaunder it.

See Dan Q in the Cowboys/Packers playoff game.
There is a reason he is being replaced.

Good regular season coach.
Habit of playoff disasters and head scratching decisions.

(or course.... Zimmer in 2017 game against Philly got shelled as well)

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2024 2:02:23 PM)

So, if as reported, we said no before the start of last year to the home town discount of 40/year for 3 years, no way we’re doing 2 for 80+ now.

Cousins is gone.

He was often a slow starter with us and I can only imagine that trend would continue.

I don't see a 3/120 guarantee coming from anyone after what happeneded with Russ.
