Sigh...

Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah uses PFF to help select which players he wants on his team.

“I use Pro Football Focus to teach myself things that frankly, I didn’t know. PFF really allows somebody to go deep and study that for themselves”

Suddenly I get it.

Oh Jesus Christ.. why didn’t we just hire Chris Collinsworth as GM?

If that is true (i hope hard it is not) it makes me embarrassed of the team I love.

I don't like our owners. Our GM might be a real life idiot and our HC is unimpressive. At least we have our QB position all set. Skol Vikes. We'll be great next season.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2024 8:39:03 AM)

I’ve read quite a few replies in social media from known, reputable names saying all 32 teams use PFF. I subscribed to PFF a few years ago and can confirm they have some real deep dive stuff. The “game grades” that get circulated amount to almost nothing compare to the whole of what’s available from them.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2024 8:56:20 AM)

Better than picking from Athlon Draft Guide's 'Best of the Rest' and 'Sleeper to Watch'.

Murph -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2024 9:58:44 AM)

We might have the worst GM in the league.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2024 10:33:57 AM)

Kwesi at the Senior Bowl/Scouting Combine….

Kwesi, you forgot your PFF magazine, and Pro Football GM for Dummies book.

Oh woah hey can’t get far without those lol.

(under their breath) well you can’t.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2024 11:10:16 AM)

Something happened with Coller...I don't trust everything he says......but Kwesi does need a near perfect offseason.

JJ July 2022: “I’m not too fond of money”

JJ Feb 2024: I want to break the bank “

****

I guess that’s kinda sorta fond?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 9:02:33 AM)

JJ wants the break the bank and "to be part of an organization that wants me and to really give me what I deserve."

In the words of the immortal Judge Smails, "You'll get nothing and like it!" Vikings trade your prima donna syndrome ass, preserve a bank's worth of salary cap, and gain a warehouse full of draft picks/players.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 9:10:33 AM)

Dude is almost through his 5-year rookie contract and has been to one playoff game.

Looking into his pathetic 0 TD, 47 yard performance against the mighty Giants shutdown defense:

17 yards after the first drive.
4 yards in the second half.
0 yards in the 4th quarter where, you know, stars are supposed to show why they are stars.

Another soon to be uber expensive stat boy that some GM will fawn over.

9 times out of ten you could not talk me out of spending whatever on a QB WR DE/Edge CB that is competing for best at his position of the decade.

but given our situation ... ???

Straddling the razor's edge between trying to squeeze into more wildcard games or simply dropping out of contention altogether ... is not the time to blow your wad on a big non-QB asset.

To start, I'd like to see Kwesi strut into the war room this April in chaps and rhinestone studded killer bee style bandoliers with his version of a winding, opaque 'there's a new sheriff in town' ...

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 1:30:19 PM)

I remember trading away a 28 year old WR and getting a worthless piece back at pick 7........Even the best GMs make bad picks.

I remember also trading away a ton of assets for one player with it going really good once (Jared) and one time really bad (Hershel).

We are not going to draft our way into SB contention. Hence, we will need FAs. Extend JJ now and the big $ years of his contract will hit down the road, theoretically when we need to pay to acquire those FAs (and keep our own, however who that will be is debatable).

Just say no to self-professed "break the bank" WRs. Roll over the cap. Use it for a shutdown CB later.

As for Kwesi's new duds and attitude, one can wish!

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 1:53:18 PM)

JJ's great, but he can be taken away by a good D. He doesn't have breakaway speed or dominate size. He's just a great route runner with outstanding hands. As great as him numbers are he's never come close to affecting a D like Randy Moss did, although JJ is a better overall WR IMHO.
As much as I like him, he hasn't made that big of a difference in W's and L's. I wouldn't break the bank for him.

I'm taking trade offers. Not selling him cheap but it's best for the rebuild I think the Vikings need. I think our OL and DL need to be dramatically improved and virtually our whole D could be upgraded before we could legitimately be thought of as Super Bowl contenders.

Do you remember trading a 26 year old WR and getting an even better one with one of the picks we got for him?

Yet how close were we to getting Reagor?

Can we get into SB contention without the draft?

Sure, I don't really see a path to it with either the draft or FA ... right now.

I joke about it but I almost don't care. But I'll at least wait until after this draft (including the first two months of FA) ...

before deciding to hang in there or not care at all.

Its a good debate. I agree, JJ does not effect defenses as much as Moss did.

Its the difference between really good (JJ) and gamebreaker (Moss).

JJ's obviously not as physical as Deebo, not as much of a tonesetter, but I do like seeing JJ pop up after big hits and getting in defenders heads. I think his toughness is a little bit underestimated.

Keep him, trade him. Not sure I have a preference at this point ...

it actually depends more on what else the team does to make trading or keeping him viable.

I think I'm leaning towards signing JJ. We can stretch out the nasty cap hits until about 2030 with re-negotiations and void years. We need him to help out the new QB.

Let Hunter and Cousins walk. Current coaches turned Wonnum and Jones II into players so we don't need a 25M 30 year old OLB. Cousins will find a team thinking he is the missing piece and will overpay him.

Also, this probably goes against earlier posts I had about fiscal responsibility but find a way to get a #1 CB in here like Snead or JJohnson and we could see Flores defense take another step forward.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 4:09:52 PM)

Interesting video I caught just now on Reddit.

Dispels the rumor that Kwesi had to be talked out of trading and into picking Addison.

Couldn’t link it but it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Good to know the truth…

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/8/2024 4:13:12 PM)

“Are you ready to come work with us?”

“Let’s get paid”

First words to Kwesi and then the NFL world. Don’t like it but at least when he talks about his next contract it won’t come as a surprise where his mind is at.
