Darren Wolfson
@DWolfsonKSTP
Varying level of interest: KC, Denver, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, Houston. Now, will any claim at that number? TBD.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 9:35:39 AM)

Ive got a feeling NaJee Thompson gets cut to make room for someone

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 9:35:42 AM)

Gaskin. Experienced. 4.58 so not particularly fast. A slightly smaller McBride? Maybe a decent 3rd down back. Can he block?

Reagor is another Irv Smith Jr. Athleticism will tease, but simply can't be trusted.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 9:38:14 AM)

gawd the offseason is long and hard. regardless of the nfl’s multi-billion effort to sustain interest.

we inch closer. now that we’re in the final nuts and bolts of it, I’m genuinely excited to see this year’s version. although I’m racked with uncertainty about it.

Right. Just removing him from punt duty is addition by subtraction.

Wasn’t expecting a Melvin Gordon or Hunt … but never seen or heard of Gaskin so not sure.

The extra CB is the one crucial thing. (G is just spitting in the wind). And someone purely cb please, we have enough hybrid s/cb types.

We’ll probably just resign Joejuan. I would have been fine with it to begin with but after cutting him, it would seem a little dirty now lol.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 10:06:08 AM)

Gaskin was good when Flores was coach; hasn't done much since. Ok backup. Hope Reagor is claimed (cap space), sign Risner and Shelley.

And in the past. What has certainty gotten you?

Vikings history says decades of bad results.

I wish each team would get about 3 bye weeks and start the season a lot sooner.

Seems like an easy way to make more money from TV without adding more games.

Its not uncertainty or certainty, its degrees of uncertainty.

I have no idea what certainty looks like.

Nothing is written in stone. Anything can happen. That has more pulling power than the vast fortunes of the NFLs marketing dept.

Even a low expectation card carrying member like myself would spit up a little drool over the additions of Risner Shelley.

Frees up the spot for Gaskin. Vikings are paying $2.4 million to not have Reagor this year. Moving on from him now ensures last year's trade remains for a 2024 5th-round pick, could've been a 4th if certain statistical benchmarks were hit this year.

Vikings are waiving former first-round draft pick Jalen Reagor, per source.

What is so great about Myles Gaskin. The Dolphins one of the most RB deprived teams in the NFL cut him and now we are waiving Reagor and eating 2Million in salary to sign Gaskin.

The can't make one of the most explosive RB's look good (Mostert)....it is their system....great for WRs, bad for TEs and RBs. It also be they wanted a cheaper option than the others (Hunt, etc.).

Since the original 53 was already submitted to the league do we still get cap relief if he's claimed off waivers?

I hope I'm wrong, but I see zero to like about Gaskin. Speed Kills so what does slow 4.58 do? Since Gaskin is a vet is his contract now guaranteed? For his career he averages 3.8 yards per carry. Last 2 years 3.5 and 2.6. Only got 10 carries last year. Small but slow 198 pounds.

They may cut him next week....probably signed him to see what he can do and protect against Kene injury. I am not worried about our 3rd RB unless the top two get hurt. Ham will see the field more than Gaskin.

More worried about CB, LB, DT.

Agreed he probably won't see the field much. He gives us no reason to put him on the field. Is his contract guaranteed? If we cut him do we eat more salary?

Mattison ran a 4.67 at the combine.

+1
1) Combine speed means nothing 2) $$$ won't be much---he was due to make 1.2 with Miami; at most 400k towards cap.

Just a body for 3-4 weeks until Kene is back (most likely).

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 11:14:44 AM)

If we want a good RB trade Hock for Taylor. Situation solved.

Mattison isn't small. I get that combine times aren't always indicative of football speed, but judging by Gaskin's lack of production I think it is indicative in his case.

Umm nope....don't need the drama for a 15 million dollar RB with a bad ankle.
Indy wouldn't do the trade; wanted Waddle from Miami in exchange. TJ wouldn't be enough.

I don't know who their TE is right now, but considering how disgruntled and toxic the situation is maybe the Colts would do it. I don't know what we would have to pay him. Maybe Taylor takes less to sign with us as an F U to the Colts. Last I checked Taylor was still very good. Has that changed?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 11:27:55 AM)

I think Miami will still trade for Taylor.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2023 11:31:10 AM)

Getting rid of Irv Smith Jr. And Jalen Reagor, thank you Kwesi !!!

Glad you were listening to me on those 2, do I have any more wishes to be granted ?
