The #Vikings are waiving WR Trishton Jackson, per source.

The #Vikings have waived Luiji Vilain, per a source.

Youre a broken record as well ... in case you didnt know.

Time will tell.

For those of us who believe this is the season. Better defense - one would hope!. Better offense - hopefully, at least a little better OL with a lot less pressures and hits. A head coach back for the second year - which one could at least assume would be much better as well. An offensive head coach that we should also assume is as good as Kirk could hope for. Etc. Etc.

It's have a good one or shut up time, I guess

Even if we commit to KC for another year or two ... at some point we have to start building the future of the position.

At this point, I'm worried its going to be KC until its not ... and then we start looking hard. That's asking for journeyman hell IMO.

Right.

I don't buy the idea that Kirk and JJ are some kind of package deal.

When JJ is hitting his prime, Kirk is going to be on the wrong side of 40. The timelines don't match up.

JJ's next three years could very easily be the best three of his career. I can't imagine he would be happy wasting them while we are developing a rookie. He's gotten very used to having an ultra accurate QB throwing to him his entire career.

I can't imagine JJ would be happy continuing to tread water with a veteran. That's going to get old real fast if Cousins falls on his face again this year.

I doubt JJ will have any trouble buying into a new situation.

What happens if Cousins ends the season successfully? Its far-fetched but anything is possible.

We'll cross that make-believe bridge when it materializes out of the faerie mist.

If you think what JJ has been doing so far is treading water wow. What is falling on his face? Cousins led a team with the 31st ranked defense to 13 wins. That is almost statistically impossible. Yeah he had the final play that didn't work out. I guess he fell on his face. After three more years with Cousins maybe Hall is ready. Maybe we've won it all is that what you mean by finishes the season successfully. If we do move on from Cousins next year barring a trade for an established Star QB watch for JJ's numbers to take a significant drop. If we do go for a rookie QB who are we going to get that will not suck for at least a couple years? That is what will materialize out of the faerie mist. A rookie QB who won't suck or Hall being ready to lead the Vikings. That sure would be awesome if Hall does turn out to be the answer. The best possible scenario.

Maybe all JJ cares about is inflated stats. Maybe the competition part of it, being an above average team when it matters ... doesn't matter.

Like you, maybe JJ is more than happy with barely beating bad teams and an occasional iffy Buffalo thrown in. maybe he likes getting dogged by the good teams in the league.

I can't tell you what a different QB option will bring until I know what that option is. But I'll take the drop off in robot accuracy if its for someone who can play with a little creativity and gumption when it matters most.

A brand spanking new baby or marmot or zebra only needs one playoff win to equal Kirk 'the only possible option in the western world' Cousins.

Lots of spitballs and maybes.

Gzuz Phil that was intentional to make a point.

The thing is Tom you are totally missing the point that Kirk is the most likely QB to bring team success to JJ as well as the inflated stats. The best of both worlds. He led a team with the 31st ranked defense to a 13-4 record. That is virtually miraculous. I believe we have a great chance to dramatically improve the defense and with the addition of Addison the offense as good as it was will be even better. He finally has a coach that he meshes with. Kirk is the answer not some pie in the Faerie mist draft pick.

You talk about me missing the point but all you do, all you ever do, is regurgitate your own opinion over and over again, regardless of the response or subject or conversation.

You win, I’m done, move on.

All I ever do is regurgitate. You win I'm done, move on. Or maybe you could consider the point I'm making. It goes both ways.

@RapSheet

Do it!!

I'd most likely rather have Reagor. Of course we've received interest. He's a talent and he's been having a great off season both in camp and in preseason games.

"Carolina also acquired preseason standout wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the Kansas City Chiefs in a trade that will require an exchange of conditional seventh-round picks in 2025." (espn.com)

We are a hot bed of WR activity. Who knew.

Smith-Marsette positively tore it up this preseason. I watched their most recent game and he looked really good. I understand that the context of preseason makes it meaningless but he killed it all the same. 9 catches for 195 yards and 2 TDs on 10 targets.

Holy shit. That is eye popping.

It was miraculous. 11-0 in one score games will never happen again.

What this tells me (factoring in our negative scoring differential) is Lady Luck will come collecting this season.

Yes. I drive myself crazy harping on the same thing, responding to the same posts over and over.

I wish the situation would change after five years for an opportunity to sing a new tune.

That being said, I have conceded points, apologized, and given credit where due.

My comment to KG was about being dogmatic, not standing behind a point of view.

This team has 8-9 to 10-7 written all over it. That may win the division though. Let's hope they get hot going into the playoffs and the defense keeps getting better. But honestly that's just blind hope.

Looks like the value of marcet is the difference between KCs 7th round pick and Carolinas seventh round pick in 2024

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2023 3:33:36 PM)

Quarterbacks (3)

On the Initial 53: Kirk Cousins; Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall
Waived: Jordan Ta'amu
O'Connell said last week that an NFL rule change this offseason regarding a team's third quarterback and the team's interest in continuing to develop Hall were enticements when deciding whether to keep two or three quarterbacks.

Running Backs (3)
On the Initial 53: Alexander Mattison; Kene Nwangwu, Ty Chandler
Waived: DeWayne McBride, Abram Smith, Aaron Dykes
Chandler provided some nice moments in the preseason games while Nwangwu has been on the mend. McBride was a seventh-round pick; Smith and Dykes were added during the preseason.

Fullback (1)
On the Initial 53: C.J. Ham
No surprises here, as O'Connell and other coaches have spoken so glowingly about what Ham adds to the offense, special teams and locker room. He also can provide a little more depth at running back in a pinch.

Receivers (6)
On the Initial 53: Justin Jefferson and K.J. Osborn; Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, Brandon Powell, Jalen Reagor
Waived: Blake Proehl, Lucky Jackson, Jacob Copeland, Trishton Jackson, Thayer Thomas, Garett Maag
Some thought the Vikings might be choosing between Powell and Reagor, who both can return punts, but the Vikings opted for six receivers on the initial 53.

Tight Ends (4)
On the Initial 53: T.J. Hockenson; Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, Nick Muse
Waived: Ben Sims, Colin Thompson
The Vikings have spoken glowingly about Oliver's addition, as well as Mundt's underrated nature for his role. Muse turned in a strong camp and preseason as a second-year pro.

Offensive Line (8)
On the Initial 53: LT Christian Darrisaw, LG Ezra Cleveland, C Garrett Bradbury, RG Ed Ingram, RT Brian O'Neill; C Austin Schlottmann, G Blake Brandel, T Olisaemeka Udoh
Waived: Josh Sokol, Jack Snyder, Alan Ali, Jarrid Williams, Christian DiLauro
Traded: Vederian Lowe to New England
Placed on Reserve/Non-Football Injury: Chris Reed
The Vikings have valued continuity on the offensive line this offseason. All eight players on the Initial 53 were on the team in 2022 or beyond.

Defensive Line (5)
On the Initial 53: Dean Lowry, Harrison Phillips and Khyiris Tonga; Jonathan Bullard, Jaquelin Roy
Waived: Ross Blacklock, Esezi Otomewo, T.J. Smith, Calvin Avery
Contract Terminated: Sheldon Day
Roster Exemption: Junior Aho (International Player Pathway program)
The Vikings have worked Lowry, Phillips and Tonga together quite a bit during camp. Bullard adds plenty of experience, and Roy is a fifth-round pick.

Outside Linebackers (5)
On the Initial 53: Marcus Davenport and Danielle Hunter; D.J. Wonnum, Pat Jones II, Andre Carter II
Waived: Luiji Vilain, Benton Whitley
Carter, an undrafted rookie, joins a group of three returnees and free agent addition Davenport.

Inside Linebackers (4)
On the 53: Jordan Hicks, Brian Asamoah II; Troy Dye, Ivan Pace, Jr.
Waived: Wilson Huber
Waived/Injured: Abraham Beauplan
Contract Terminated: Troy Reeder, Tanner Vallejo
The Vikings were able to take an extended look at Pace, an undrafted rookie, while Asamoah was on the mend during the preseason.

Cornerbacks (5)
On the Initial 53: Byron Murphy, Jr., Akayleb Evans; Andrew Booth, Jr., Mekhi Blackmon, NaJee Thompson
Waived: Jaylin Williams, Jameson Houston, C.J. Coldon, Jr., Kalon Barnes
Waived/Injured: Tay Gowan
Contract Terminated: Joejuan Williams
Thompson made the roster as an undrafted free agent because of his shine on special teams.

Safeties (6)
On the Initial 53: Harrison Smith, Camryn Bynum; Josh Metellus, Lewis Cine, Jay Ward, Theo Jackson
Contract Terminated: Jake Gervase
The Vikings love their depth at this position group and are likely to make good use of it with Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores.

Specialists (3)
On the 53: Long Snapper Andrew DePaola; Kicker Greg Joseph, Punter Ryan Wright
The Vikings are positioned to have continuity among their specialists for a second consecutive season.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2023 3:36:57 PM)

With Otomewo also cut, things bode well for Carter.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2023 3:53:05 PM)

If that's the 53 for now...

- Four TEs, at least Tice used to call some of them H-Backs. Maybe Muse is all that and/or insurance for a Hock injury holdout.
- Six safeties suggest some interesting schemes.
- No depth at (pure 3-4) NT.

Ward is listed as a Safety but he played CB/S in college.....scary thought is Evans, Booth, and Blackmon have all been injury prone.

Bynum also played CB in College.
