In all my whining about us signing Darnold one thing I forgot is that he was costing us a 3rd round comp pick also. Have we recouped that pick now with Osborn signing with the patriots? Or that one is lost forever?

A 10mil contract is not valued at a 3rd round comp pick. Not even close.

I'll be surprised if Vikes get 2 3rds.

Hunter/Cousins likely would result in the max (3rds).
But Greenard would likely eliminate one of those.
Don't know about Ginkel/Cashman.

Osborne/Risner could be worth something... but their contracts won't likely be very large.

It's convoluted, but Osborn signing a $4 million contract locked us into 2 3rd round comps next year assuming we make no more large FA signings.

That would be awesome.

Gives Vikes a ton of more flexibility to move up.

Without a 2nd next year it would be hard to give up next years third... but if you really believe 2 more 3rds are coming... far more palatable.

EDIT:
OTC seems to think so as well... and then are pretty good at projecting comp picks
https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks

The guy that projects the comp picks for over the cap is someone named Norte.

We need every pick we can get.

Right, Darnold is not even close.

Contracts, playing time, and post-season awards all factor into the secret algorithm.

Hicks can also help. But on the other side there is Aaron Jones and a bunch of filler types that are adding up.

I don't think a released player like Jones counts like Hicks or Hunter.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2024 5:18:28 PM)

Oli Udoh to sign with New Orleans Saints

Alexander Mattison to sign with Las Vegas Raiders

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2024 5:18:59 PM)

Time is a circle.

MIN: Mattison --> Jones
GB: Jones --> Jacobs
LV: Jacobs --> Mattison

Clever.

The Groucho Marx version:

Time flies like an arrow.

MIN: Mattison --> LV

Fruit flies like a banana.

MIN: Cousins --> ATL

MIN: Kirk Cousins --> Atlanta
ATL: Desmond Ridder --> Arizona
Arizona: Joshua Dobbs --> Minnesota

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2024 6:48:44 PM)

So a circle of RBs, and QBs.

You're combining 2 seasons to get there.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2024 7:03:12 PM)

True, but it almost worked.

Trivia question: What is the greatest number of NFL teams any one player has played on, and who was that player ?

Is Dobbs getting close?

Josh McCown. 12 NFL teams and one USFL team to boot.

I googled it. I had the wrong player. The right player played for 14 teams. Hard to believe a player could play on 14 during their career.

Look how much experience that gets you ....

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/19/2024 10:32:13 AM)

It's funny, because Josh McCown was the reason I both googled it, and asked the question as a trivia question.

Shelter reported that Houston approached Kwesi with the trade offer. Hard to give the guy credit seeing as it fell into his lap.

If they approached him with that offer he should have negotiated better terms. Never take their first offer.

Or if they come to you with a pretty good offer, snatch it up.

We really don't know how this offer came up...and if they did, that KAM didn't negotiate better terms.

I don't think we got a bad deal here.

Nobody does.

Breaking: Free agent CB Shaq Griffin is signing with the #Vikings on a 1-year deal, up to $6M, sources tell @BleacherReport

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/19/2024 4:23:36 PM)

Loads of defensive additions. Good work.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/19/2024 4:50:54 PM)

More veteran experience back there. Not a bad move.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/19/2024 5:42:33 PM)

A 28 1/2 year old cornerback..

While we need CB help, I hope this does not preclude a draft pick on that position..

I think it's an OK deal. The draft value charts think we left a lot of meat on the bone.
