@Mark
Conner Williams had a pretty bad knee injury but if healed up and only 27.....might be a very good option.

KAM does love players with an injury history.

There is a fine line between a big receiver and a pass-catching tight end, and the Minnesota Vikings are taking some time this spring to see if N'Keal Harry can bridge it. Harry, drafted No. 32 overall as a receiver by the New England Patriots in 2019, was working Tuesday with the Vikings' tight end group.

Coach Kevin O'Connell acknowledged it's "unique" to initiate a position change at this point in a player's career, but added: "We're hoping we're developing a guy that can grow into a real third-down weapon, a red zone weapon with his skill set. The more he can do from an all-down standpoint will only help his value as we continue to really put together that tight end group."

The Vikings are unlikely to have starter T.J. Hockenson at the beginning of the season as he continues to recover from multiple torn ligaments in his right knee. They recently added free agent Robert Tonyan to a group that also includes veterans Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt. Harry, listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, spent three seasons with the Patriots and one with the Chicago Bears before signing in 2023 with the Vikings. He appeared in nine games, getting 23 snaps on offense and 49 on special teams, but did not have a catch. -- Kevin Seifert

Harry is a good blocker so it could work.

harry is our fastest tight end - 4.53/40

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/5/2024 4:50:48 PM)

It would be nice to have a reliable red zone threat in the mix.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/5/2024 9:28:59 PM)

That's the thing with this experiment. He has the speed to beat traditional TE coverage, the hands to be a weapon and he doesn't need to be a good blocker. He won't be asked to be in the run game much. Just learn the TE route tree and he has a good chance.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/5/2024 9:57:13 PM)

Sell. Coaches hardly ever try for such a transition, fewer make it. Lining him up telegraphs it's not going to be a run. He's had 1 TD the last two years (averages 1.25/season for his career). He measured under 6' 3" at the combine. Reps are very limited in today's NFL and Oliver, Muse, Mundt, and some signee need to get theirs.

Great ploy to help sell a few more camp tickets but by opening day he'll either be off the roster or there is a slim chance he'll be the #5-6 WR cause depth is a trash heap.

over the last 10 years not one wr has had more bench presses that harry, who had 27...and only 1 te has had more, at 28....

He's a slow-footed sloth-like WR that had a great combine which got him way over-drafted. Why he hasn't been tried at TE already is a big mystery.

His physical reputation coming out of college as a 'junkyard dog' and 'back shoulder boss' hasn't earned him reps against finesse corners, not sure he's going to body up LBs and avg sized safeties in the red zone.

Its fun to try new stuff though. I give KOC credit for giving the guy an opportunity.

Ofcourse, it wouldn't surprise me if KOC tried to repurpose kickers into TEs. Some mad scientists try anything and everything to reanimate loved ones but in Kevin's case, the infatuation is with TEs.

You have to know DCs joke about this at their yearly convention. 'They paid Jets how much to decoy for Oliver and Mundt?'

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/6/2024 11:48:10 AM)

Purple Daily was guessing that this experiment was a simple way to replace Hock if he's out for the first 6-7 games.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/6/2024 2:49:22 PM)

Not saying he's going to make the team but his last 2 years at ASU:

155 catches for 2230 yards with an average of 13.6 and 22 TD's

That's pretty impressive.

Now that you mention it Tom, the punter brought in for competition is a very big guy for a punter, and did play some TE awhile back, so ....

Harry spoke to O’Connell about the transition at the end of last season, and since then he’s brought his weight up to 240 pounds

Don't know what he weighed last year outside of the listed weight, but he was 228 at the combine 5 years ago. Maybe he ate candy bars like that UDFA.

That includes rushing TDs.

As a pro over 5 years he is at 64 catches for 714 yards (11.2 ypc) and 5 TDs. Average per year: 13/143/1. 14.6 yards per game.

That's not pretty impressive.

Ah, it's a fun gimmick for camp. I honestly thought he was on the roster due to some technicality.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/7/2024 12:39:36 PM)

OverTheCap shows the Vikings have paid him $518,300 as dead money. I presume that was at the end of last season. He has no stats for the season. So about $1 million down the tubes, half of which was paid after his contract expired.

Kwesi needs to stop yapping about 'working the margins' cause he throws away tens of millions.

Nope. That's receiving only. He had 23 rushes for 144 and 3 TD's. And, don't get me wrong, he most likely doesn't make the team.

You said in his last two years at ASU he had 22 TDs, and lumped his WR stats with total TDs .

Actually, in his last two years at ASU he had 17 TD receptions and 1 rushing TD.

Also 155 for 2230 yards isn't a 13.6 average but I didn't want to mention that [;)]

I love catching up on the news.

McCarthy Struggling. Has A Long Way To Go

Ah…that’s a shame…

McCarthy Shinning. Could Steal The Starting Job By The Start Of The Season.

Well that’s a relief…

******

Might as well tune out until August.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/10/2024 7:38:51 AM)

Yea, I don’t put any stock in anything until the games count..

Preseason, I want to see starting lineups play at least the first two series to open each game, AND, bring the starters out to open Every second Half..

It’s gotta mimic season games, adjustments and get into rhythm..
