I remember in 1998 how whenever the Offense was on the field it was like you were in the twilight zone and didn't want to miss a play.....
This year it has been both the Offense and the Defense were you just see everyone making plays and we aren't fully stocked on Offense yet.

In '98 it was exciting whenever the offense took the field, it feels similarly for the defense this season.

It feels like the opposing team isn't going to get a TD, maybe they get a FG, a punt seems most likely, so we wonder exactly how the Vikings will stop them on 3rd down, or if the Vikings' defense can force a turnover.

When the Vikings offense comes out, I am just hoping they can get the ball to midfield, and hoping they don't mess things up by turning the ball over, anything in top of that is sweet.

With Sam's movement, it seems like the Vikings are more likely to get TDs when in the red zone. So far, so good.

Big test on the road this week.

Pretty cool the defense pridefully didn't give up and easy TD Houston at the very end.

Offseason thoughts

My standard take is that only roughly 50% of free agents will pan out.

I'm stunned by the number of contributers this year.

Studs (all making big time plays): Van Ginkel, Cashman, Greenard, Jones
Solid: Gilmore, Griffin, Tillery, Ward (plus Grugier Hill and Redmond for 1 game)
Meh: Tonyan, Sherfield

As excited as I've been since probably 2017.

Can't wait to get to full strength, fingers crossed.

Cam Bynum said in a recent interview that it was instant chemistry with the players added this year, that he was surprised how quickly the chemistry happened.

I heard the same from Aaron Jones....he said he has never had as much fun playing football.

I love how Sam is 11th in passing, when you go by yards, but basically #1 by so many other metrics.

You can have the yards, Dak.

This! 1998... yes! Like on 10-5-98 when the 4-0 Vikings and Packers met on MNF. Vikings stop a puke 4th down play. After that a fellow named Randy Moss was unleashed and introduced to the nation. He singlehandedly destroyed the hapless packers. Well actually everybody got in on the smackdown.

Thank you for bringing up 1998, still smiling!

#Vikings QB Sam Darnold’s MRI revealed a knee bruise and no structural damage, per source.

Very good news...

Marty if you feel like borrowing my post please quote or reply to it instead of making it your own. (Post 2200 and 2201)

Thanks.

Dall-ass may be ready to implode. Well, hope so anyway.

Is there animosity when players like Hurts and Prescott - or anyone not named Mahomes - sign $50-60 million contracts? I mean sure teammates still play to the hilt, but when the chips are down and the bickering starts....

... just blame Mike Zimmer and his drill instructor led defense!

Yards are for suckers that are consistently trailing in the second half.

Bulletin board material:

"None of it means anything until you beat a good team on the road."

I don't really know of anyone saying that right now, I just want to make sure this team continues to be motivated.

That's bullshit.

We have beaten two of the consensus best 5 teams in the NFL in successive weeks.

They just need to keep humble about it. don't get overconfident.

For sure. Conclusively. With a few breaks, we could have thumped the 49ers almost as bad as the Texans.

Right now the Vikings, Seahawks, and Steelers have stormed into the view of many a power ranker.

For my money, we look as or more dangerous on both sides of the ball than anybody at this point. If doubters like myself were hoping for a Mayfield-like reemergence from Darnold, Sam has blown past that so far. 2023 Mayfield was just a scrappy precursor to what we're seeing from Darnold so far. And make no mistake about it, as outstanding as our defense has looked, our success will hinge on the Darnold.

But ...

the 49ers folding yesterday is a reminder that teams are still soundly messing with offseason predictions, and a real handle on the power structure of 2024 (I'm not talking about the silly media power ranking crap) is still a long way off. At least another 8-10 weeks to slot the actual contenders and pretenders.

For my money, we have a real chance to be the real deal. We're not there yet.

With the bye weeks ending in week 14, 8-10 weeks from now ranges from week 12 to week 14. I would expect the pretenders are done by then, but there is some leeway!

+1
Bill I think the Dallas meltdown has something to do with Lamb's contract and also Cincy's struggles as caused by Chase's contract.....I think both were jealous of JJ's contract.

Change +1 to +0.5 since you mentioned WRs. But yeah, if a team is struggling early...

We're literally 3rd in points scored.

Our offense and defense are basically mirror images.

Offense: 3rd in Points, 12th in Yards. 1st in TD Passes.
Defense: 2nd in Points, 14th in Yards. 6th in TD Passes.

Points scored and Points allowed looking marvelous! That's what a championship team looks like! Can we keep it up? How fun that would be!

Top 3 in TD passes are all reclamation projects.

1: Darnold - 8
2: Carr - 6
3: Mayfield - 6

Rare air for all of us.

Phil, I originally had your quote in italics, was only taking a part of your post. When I put it in italics, I mistakenly let the start and stop italics thingy at the beginning stay, so your section didn't end up being italicized.

Sorry about that. I don't fully understand how to include just a part of what someone was saying, and have it layered in, as some do. I am just enough lacking in computer savvy to not be able to do that.

At the same time, I find it annoying when that layering is overused, and we end up getting tons of old quotes layered in. If you're following the thread often enough, it seems unnecessary.

I didn't mean for anyone else to think I started the comment on '98. If I take a snippet, and italicize it Phil, do you want me to always include your name to make sure you're given credit for the earlier statement ?

Thanks David, I didn't realize the offense was doing that well.

I guess I have this nagging fear of Darnold resorting to Jets Darnold at anytime, but I am also REALLY enjoying what the defense is doing, and bringing.
