I've been saying all series that Rudy looks obsolete out there, but DAMN! He came up huge when we needed it most. As bad as the Wolves played, they could have won by more if they could make their damn free throws.

Yeah, probably the ugliest series clinching game I've ever seen, but we came out on the right side of it

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/1/2025 11:56:18 AM)

Rudy is a guy who can swing games without big box scores.

Defensively he was great in Games 1-4. He had the best FG% against in the Playoffs, and Luka and LeBron were horrible in isolation against him.

But Reddick schemed to take him out of the game. Lakers put 2 bodies on him on every rebound attempt. And if he did get a hand on a ball, he got a quick karate chop across the arm to dislodge it. That said, he had a pretty butterfingered series - even by his standards.

Last night JJ went away from the double in favor of trying to trap Ant all night long and Rudy feasted on the tiny Lakers.

David Jerde -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/1/2025 3:19:00 PM)

In the past, the Wolves don’t win this stupid game and we bitch about how they were unable to capitalize and clinch the series. The Wolves were the better team and rattled the Lake show into insignificance last night. The outcome was almost foretold by JJ; he’s competitive AF and not a good coach.

We’re going to win the stupidest game I’ve ever seen.

8 on 5 and we’re playing with the IQ of a potato and we’re going to win.

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/1/2025 5:12:20 PM)

The Wolves were one of the worst clutch teams in the league this season, but they have been completely different in the playoffs. Three of the five games were considered in the clutch by the NBA, and the Wolves were 3-0 with the best offensive rating (170.0 points per 100 possessions) and second-best defensive rating (82.4) in the playoffs. They outscored the Lakers by 42 points in the fourth quarter in the series.

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/1/2025 6:30:09 PM)

Rudy Gobert first round series defense:

LeBron 6/21
Reaves 6/18
Luka 7/17
Rui 6/16
Hayes 3/4
DFS 1/3
Vando 0/1
Goodwin 0/1

Total DFG%: 35.8%

Expected opponent FG%: 49.2%

Difference: -13.4%(!!!)

---------------

LeBron took 21 shots when guarded by Rudy Gobert this series.

He made 6.

Gobert held him to 23% below his average.

Clamped.

---------------

Luka went 1-8 from three this series when guarded by Rudy Gobert

J.J. definitely got out coached.

NBA Playoff MVPs: Ranking the top postseason performers

2. Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves
26.8/8.4/6.2/1.2

Edwards has been billed here as "the smoothest basketball player alive," and he met those expectations as the best player in a series that featured Los Angeles Lakers superstars Luka Dončić and LeBron James.

James is 40 years old. Dončić is not in his best condition. And the bounce in Edwards' step is real. The 23-year-old plays with an athletic freedom that allows him to get to whatever spot he wants on offense and keep an opponent from getting to his preferred location on the other end. Between Dončić, James and Austin Reaves, there was no shortage of weak spots in L.A.'s point-of-attack defense for Edwards to hunt.

Having failed in isolation against Edwards through the first four games of the series, when he averaged 30 points on 45/43/83 shooting splits, the Lakers sent more help in Game 5, holding him to 15 points on 5-of-19 shooting (0-11 3P). That may have prevented him from being No. 1 on this list. Still, Edwards calmly drew multiple defenders, finding wide-open shooters all over the floor. He finished with eight assists, leading to 21 points, in the close-out victory, though he had 16 potential assists, according to Synergy.

It was a departure from earlier in the season, when Edwards complained of double teams, saying, "I don't know what to do, honestly." He does now, and that growth in his game is a scary reality for everyone else.

Edwards' explosiveness on offense often overshadows his defensive effort. He spent the bulk of his time defending Reaves, who was underwhelming in the series and almost absent from the elimination game. Likewise, in the 14 minutes Edwards spent defending Dončić over five games, the Lakers scored a paltry 0.89 points per 100 possessions. He will bust you up on both ends, and he will let you know all about it.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/2/2025 7:09:34 PM)

Edwards is free spirited but he does have good basketball sense. He figures things out. And he does it at a level that’s astounding for a 23 year old.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/2/2025 8:45:17 PM)

Watching the GS/Houston game…for scouting purposes. Either opponent will be a fun series. But the Wolves should be able to destroy either one. Bring it on.

Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for his vulgar comments directed towards fans of the Los Angeles Lakers during the Minnesota Timberwolves' Game 1 win on Saturday.

Edwards was caught on video saying "my d--- bigger than yours."

It probably is. So what.

I beg to differ. How can it be a foul if McDaniels had his foot planted first?

LBJ would never agree to a trade. Unless it was to an expansion team in Vegas where he is part owner.

It's not a 'trip' in the normal sense of the word. But if you put your foot down in a spot where the opponent was immediately going to land and he couldn't avoid it, that's the same as a trip in NBA parlance. It's like if you undercut someone going up for a jump shot. They may initiate the contact but you have to allow the person to come down.

Having said that. Big deal. Shit happens. It wasn't anything egregious. It's playoff basketball. play on, whiners.

It was a trip, but big deal. Refs called Fouls at least 3 other times when Luka fell and I'm not sure if we fouled him on any of those.

It would have been a foul but after Doncic and Lebron get almost every call all game long......it is tough to complain about the 1 or 2 they didn't get.

Exactly.

How do you win a game on 7 for 47 3 point shooting? I’ve never seen a percentage that bad for so high volume in a game, and they won. That was weird.

You win it because Rudy had a game for the ages.

Wolves should be favored to get to WCF. A healthy OKC squad will be quite the challenge.

Should be exciting if everyone stays healthy.

I think we will be betting underdogs whether we play Houston or GSW.

Wolves open as 7.5 point favorites for Game 1.

Not thrilled that 10 of 11 ESPN "experts" picked us to win the series.

At least Shaq picked GS.

I'm sure the Twins have conditioned you to believe that.

Got it. Wolves players turned from chokers to clutch when the calendar turned.

I didn't watch any of the Houston/ Golden State series, but a friend of mine says GS looks their age despite winning the series.

That's so true, or at least thought the same. It was probably exacerbated by some of the Houston players being so athletic. But Draymond certainly seemed to be, umm, pacing himself. Butler was invisible then would suddenly show up. They still have that championship moxy and experience. Also except for VanFleet Houston didn't shoot well during long stretches of some games.

It seems to be their last hurrah. Meanwhile the Wolves got a great dose of experience last year and of course they are athletic.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/6/2025 3:55:19 PM)

If Curry is healthy, we have a very tough series coming up.
Butler and Green are as competitive as they get and Looney is the wildcard. I expect a very close series.

The series schedule isn't going to help GS either. Only one day off on games 1 thru 5.
