Jimmy got going last night, as I figured he would have the game before. It just took them a game to adjust to Steph’s absence I guess. They are well coached and I imagine Kerr can’t be too unhappy with how the game went but they just couldn’t quite pull it off. I expect the next game to be more of the same. A battle if the Wolves don’t play their A game, a comfortable win if they do.

Randle has been an intense playoff performer. Take this game and bottle it. If you could have seen this game in a time machine last fall you would have said, hell yeah, let’s go. His baskets seem to come at clutch times too, when the team looks a little off and they need someone to step up.

Until Jaden absolutely locked him down. Butler did not score a single point the last 8 minutes of the game.

Butler was gassed.

2. The Curry-less Warriors are more formidable than I thought. The remaining old farts provide stability and accountability and the role players are executing at a high level. Kuminga has stepped into a much bigger role and met the moment.

Warriors are a much better defense without Curry.

Kuminga is going to get an inflated contract after this series. Nice player, but he's exactly the kind of roleplayer we always struggle against. Long athletic tweener forward that is a streaky shooter. See: Rui Hachima, Obi Toppin, Kyle Kuzma...

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/13/2025 3:00:20 PM)

Ant is also only 56 pts behind KG in pts scored in Wolves playoffs history.
Jaden is now in 4th place in Wolves all-time playoff scoring history.

The wolves now have 19 playoff wins with Edwards. They had 18 playoff wins without him.

ESPN: The Wolves have now won 10 playoff road games in 2 years, the best road record of any team in that stretch. For context, we were 6-27 on the road before last year

They are probably the best defensive team in the NBA. We really moved the ball well in the 3rd. Green and Butler are running on fumes---we have to finish it next game.

This is very true. Even in his prime, Curry was someone GS wanted to hide on defense. With him out of the lineup, they are a bit longer and more athletic, which helps them with their zone in particular. The Wolves have struggled at times against the GS zone when they would continue to take contested threes against it. This has made GS difficult to play agaist, even without Curry. In the 3rd quarter of game 4, they finally started attacking the gaps in the zone.

RealGM Wiretap
Stephen Curry Officially Ruled Out By Warriors For Game 5
May 13, 2025 10:21 PM

Stephen Curry has been officially ruled out by the Golden State Warriors for Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves as he continues to deal with a strained right hamstring. The Warriors, who won Game 1 of the series, will have to win Game 5 to give Curry a chance to return for Game 6.

Curry will be reevaluated Wednesday. He sustained the hamstring injury in the second quarter of the Warriors' Game 1 victory on May 6.

This feels like a game where we'll fall flat.

Pretty clear motivation. Beat GS tonight, at home, without Curry. Or...

Lose and face GS with Curry (not guaranteed) on the road, GS with momentum and the narrative being a continued Wolves choke to increase the pressure.

I don’t know. I think the opposite. Win at home, wrap it up and not see Curry again. That should be proper motivation.

Of course there’s a 49.9% chance I’m wrong.

twinsfan -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/14/2025 10:20:45 PM)

Most Wolves players looking good. Edwards looks terrible tonight.

twinsfan -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/14/2025 10:57:20 PM)

I have no idea what Edwards is doing this game. Does he have money on it for Golden State?

twinsfan -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/14/2025 11:02:10 PM)

Are there just no rules about stepping into the paint early on free throws? Gobert missed one, and the overhead camera showed a Warrior stepping into the paint waaaaaay early. Golden State gets the rebound. No penalty called. What the hell is this?

Steve Lentz -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/14/2025 11:53:18 PM)

Conference Finals 2 years in a row. Now we probably will play the team I fear the most in the NBA. OKC.

Elliot -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/15/2025 6:39:20 AM)

I've really done a 180 on Julius Randle. Having watched him consistently 'break' the offense for years, he's adjusted his game and provides a much better fit for these Wolves than KAT. He often plays with an edge that no one else (except maybe DDV) brings. And his ability to put the ball on the floor and put his defender on his heels more than makes up for his slightly lower 3pt shooting vs KAT.

A couple months ago, I was demoaning that Randle would opt in, creating problematic second-apron issues with others like Naz and NAW up for lucrative raises. What's the projection now? Probably re-sign Randle and Naz and deal NAW in a sing-n-trade?

This team's ability to effectively play in a variety of ways, with switchable defenders makes them a very tough out. If the Wolves can stop playing with their food, they might win it all.

He defers to Randle and distributes in the first half as GS is double teaming him at every chance; just like the last 3 games they won.

The turnovers were ridiculous. Is that normal for him? It was so frustrating watching him being so careless with the ball.

He leads the team in turnovers but he also leads in minutes played and probably minutes handling the ball. So it’s hard to say. But yes last night was a lot even for him.

My own opinion is he looked a bit gassed and maybe not 100% healthy yet.

TJSweens -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/15/2025 9:25:14 AM)

I'm really happy to move on from that series. The Wolves won in 5, but I can't say they played particularly well. Before the next series they have got to clean up the turnovers and second chance points or they are getting swept.

I agree. The Warriors have to be one of the worst teams to ever go that deep in the NBA playoffs.

What is a 1990 NBA Hoops Michael Jordan card worth?

It’s nothing. A lot of the turnovers occurred when the game was already out of hand and GS was allowed to maul us all game.

Yeah, he had 7 turnovers. But he had a total of 16 in our previous 9 playoff games.

TJSweens -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (5/15/2025 1:52:04 PM)

I'm more concerned with team turnovers than individual turnovers. GS got away with a lot of contact last night, but the Wolves have turned it over 20+ times, 3 games in a row. They're also giving up too many second chance opportunities.

Second chance points was 27-2 for GS last night. Without that advantage the game would have been over much sooner. The subs could have played the whole 4th quarter..
