I hate watching OKC play. Guess I'm an Indy fan the rest of the season.

I agee, OKC excel as Foul Farmers
It’s like watching an NFL Flag Fest
I’m sure the advertiser’s love all the interruptions
No flow, mind numbing, cheap call after cheap call, even in the playoffs
🤮

That didn't pass the sniff test, so I looked it up.

In 4 games of that 5 game series, OKC was charged with more fouls than Minn (equal # of fouls in the 5th game).

Over in the East, both of those teams have 'farmed' more fouls than OKC over 5 games. And they are averaging 7 more fouls per game.

Yes there are lots of fouls, lack of flow, etc. Just like the NFL. But in the Conf finals OKC didn't excel as "Foul Farmers", and are in fact last among the 4 teams in getting calls.

Its not even Shai's grifting to get to the line. His pushoffs completely open up his game. He either gets 2 FTs or a wide open mid-range shot.

But to me the real difference is how the Thunder are refed on defense. Dort and Caruso are allowed incredible amounts of contact up and down the court. They're playing rugby and getting away with it.

That and everyone on the sqaud was allowed to hack Gobert everytime he grabbed a rebound.

Meanwhile Edwards runs roughshod down the lane and ends up at the foul line. He might as well announce he's driving to the basket, then the refs can just send him to the line w/o the wear and tear.

Just more examples of star treatment. They are bubble-boys.

Edwards barely gets calls. He gets hammered regularly, but because he's so strong, he rarely gets the whistle.

Barely and rarely are from a biased take.

This past season Edwards was 9th in the league in average FTA's per game! Essentially tied for 7th.

And gets hammered way more than that.

He's like Shaq. If Shaq had been officiated right, he'd average 20 FTAs and foul out the entire opposing team.

He's nowhere close to Shaq! Teams WANTED to foul Shaq because of his low FT %.

I don't recall Hack-A-Ant in NBA nomenclature, ever. Although it may have been a smart thing to do given Ant's bad 69% FT % in the Western finals.

Way off.

You missed my point completely.

Shaq got hammered every time he got the ball in the post, but it was rarely called because of how strong he was.

If Shaq got Embiid's whistle, he'd have set the NBA record for FTAs.

Your point was Edwards was "like Shaq". That isn't the case. Maybe use another player for a better analogy.

Dude.

I'm talking about a guy who is stringer than his defenders, so the officials allow more contact on them. Ant gets absolutely hammered on every drive, but because he doesn't go flying like Shai or Trae, the officials generally let them "play on". Like how Shaq got hit, grabbed and yanked every time he had the ball near the basket and they only called it if blood was drawn.

Its not rocket surgery here.

Figured you'd be a bit realistic with the assertions, instead it's full on embellishment. Edwards does NOT get absolutely hammered on every drive. Although, he does get hit, gets his share of phantom calls, and was 9th in FTAs in 2025.

Saying he gets hit like Shaq is technically true but the contact is so much less that it's disingenuous to use Shaq as the example. A better analogy is he gets hit like Green from a few years ago.

I can understand Hyperbole Zone fan reactions during and after the game, but turning up the volume a week after the last game is over seems strange, especially for you (level-headed, etc).

TJSweens -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (6/3/2025 8:42:27 AM)

I get what you are saying completely David. The analogy is spot on. What makes it more annoying is the NBA commentators going on about how Ant seems to be having a hard time finishing his layups in the playoffs.

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (6/3/2025 10:31:08 AM)

The other difference is Ant doesn't initiate or create contact. He just gets hit.

Most of Shai's fouls come from pushing off with his off hand and throwing himself at the ground. Trae does something similar, but he throws his hip into guys.

The one I don't get is how Caruso rates the calls he gets. It usually happens when he plays through a screen. He initiates the contact, throws his head back like he got hit in the jaw (he didn't), throws himself on the floor and calls for a priest. How does an 8th or 9th man in the rotation type constantly get those calls.

Dort and Caruso are both allowed to "defend" that way.

Love seeing OKC choke the game away!

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (6/5/2025 10:16:27 PM)

OKC is just not that well coached. They won very few close games all year.

Their shot selection down the stretch was terrible.

And Daigneault going with both Chet and Hartenstein sitting left them with no rebounding.

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves 2024/2025 Season (6/6/2025 11:29:13 AM)

This was Tyrese Haliburton’s 4th game-tying or game-winning shot in final 1.3 seconds of 4th quarter or OT in these playoffs. All with Indy down.

One in each series: Game 5 vs. Bucks (1.3 seconds left) Game 2 vs. Cavaliers (1.1 seconds) Game 1 vs. Knicks (4th Q buzzer) Game 1 vs. Thunder (0.3 sec)

No player has made more than 2 of these shots in one postseason going back to the 1997 playoffs, according to @basketball-reference.com (that’s as far back as they go). Haliburton doubled that already.

Source: Mike Vorkunov Bluesky

----------------

Since the NBA began tracking such data in 1971, teams were 0-182 in the Finals when trailing by 9+ points in the final three minutes.

The Pacers made that record 1-182

Per NBA.com
