The refs are the least of my worries after what I just saw

My comment had nothing to do with the Vikings game.

I don't mind that only 1 of 6 wildcard games was competitive. A better team will probably win decisively. I don't want to see a game where the perceived better team gets calls and no calls that are totally unfair, nor do I want to see incorrect calls and non calls propping up a weak team in the playoffs.

With regards to the Vikings game, I thought the officiating was pretty good. I am not sure on the defensive TD we had taken away, would need to see that again.

What I did NOT like, was the obvious facemask on Darnold that was missed in the endzone in the earlier regular season meeting.

Jefferson not going out on the field again?

I'd trade him. We need assets. He does nothing in big games.

They said JJ walks off the field in his young career. Coming up on year 6 and age 26.

By the time Moss was age 23 he had three playoff wins with 7 TDs, and over 600 yards in six playoff games.

Sure, the Moss teams were better.... because of Moss!

and OLine and QB.

But agree that JJ has to improve. Physical play against him is working. He needs to get stronger.

The entire offense got better the minute Moss stepped onto the field in the season opener.

Maybe stop worrying about wearing 6 chains and start playing ball. He checked out in the 2nd quarter. I get it that Sam sucked. That's still inexcusable.

Agree. We don't need street cred. We need catches for 1st downs.

JJ will look better when we get better than mediocre QBing, hopefully McCarthy provides that.

Cousins and Darnold are mediocre QBs, great arms, but lack the intangibles, the playmaking abilities to make teams pay. The accuracy from the start of the game, in games that really count. The ability hit the dagger throw, throws that keep teams off balance, make you unpredictable.

Definitely. But none of these guys playing OLine tonight start on that 1998 team.

Darnold had plenty of dagger throws and was able to slay the Vikings two weeks straight.

marty -> RE: Wildcard Round: @ Rams 1-13-24 7:00PM CT (1/13/2025 11:00:31 PM)

Sam made a great run in this game, but the team was already behind by 3 TDs. He should have made that sort of run early in the game to keep the defense off balance, instead he was sacked.

Keep defenses off balance early in the game by runs like that, or accurate dink and dunk throws that keep the sticks moving, and wear the defense down. Don't get overly reliant on long throws, they are low percentage, and tough to complete against playoff defenses, especially on the road.

We had good line coaches back then too. I'm not confident we can teach line play to actually coach up younger players wrt the interior. Better hope we can sign some FA vets.

The guy was making throws most of the season in to tight windows. Just letting it go. Confident. Even with pocket collapsing.

Last 2 games. Tentative. Scared.

I think his ceiling is Derek Carr. Time to go with the 2 mobile guys. JJM and DJ.

What great run?? A single TD on a drive with several consecutive off the mark passes the receivers were able to catch, and a blown 2 pt conversion? More sacks?

He had plenty of dinks and dunks early.

He's like one of those machines at baseball games that launches t-shirts into the crowd. Or, as General Schwarzkopf said of Saddam's SCUD missiles, you launch them then turn on CNN to see where they land.

I think the “ great run” was in of his pocket bails, that netted about 17 yards…

The only play that showed any guts.. in the fourth quarter, down 18 points..

Yea.. great job sloth…. That run barely cancels out 1.5 of the ( let’s hold onto it instead) THROW THE ****ING BALL, MORON!,! Sacks

****ing moron..

He is a UFA, we csnt even get a comp pick for his sorry ass.. the jets can have him back…

You get comp picks for UFAs. But (and maybe this is what you meant) the contract has to be pretty large. And chances are our FA signings will cancel it out, although we have FAs departing so who knows.

Who do we have going out in FA that will get a big contract? Darnold? Bynum? Murphy? Robinson?

I think we make enough big splashes to incoming FAs to off set those guys. Plus we might keep Bynum or Murphy.

I'm just wondering where he could sign and have success.

Maybe Pittsburgh: who usually want to play tough defense and run the ball.

Giants: OLine is worse than ours.

Cleveland: They have albatross Watson on the team.

Oakland: Dysfunctional

So big splashes means no comp picks, is that what you are getting at? I was thinking more along the lines the sheer numbers are a consideration, but that too is offset especially with not many projected draft picks. Somehow there has to be a $ delta to generate a late 3rd, at this point IDK how it could happen.

Yes. I'm thinking with our cap space and our willingness to spend we won't have any comp picks in 2026.

marty -> RE: Wildcard Round: @ Rams 1-13-24 7:00PM CT (1/14/2025 6:52:35 AM)

Bill, Danno had it right, I was referring to ONE PLAY where Sam quickly left the pocket and ran about 20 yards.

Sam should have done that earlier in the game, make them pay for blitzing or getting too aggressive with their pass rush, and make your movement and offense less predictable.

Sam's problem, like Cousins, he doesn't see things quickly to be one step ahead of the defense. The times during the regular season where Sam ran the ball, or made defenses pay were more random.

The Lions and Rams showed a blueprint for next year on how to beat Sam, Sam will likely fail wherever he goes. The Vikings need to let him go.
