What scares me now is that Rocco in his infinate managerial wisdom will see this as a reason to giving tons of playing time to the likes of Mickey Gaspar.

Until we get owners that give a shit more than the business side and food vending, I will not blame Falvey or Rocco. I thought the same about the Timberwolves until you saw the effect of spending some money on Tim Connelly and staff and all the way down to the players and filling out the coaching staff.

Falvey and Rocco were cheap hires just like every Pitching and Hitting coach we put on staff the last how many years.....hell even when Gardy and Paul Monitor were the managers.

I had a dream last night, and this was the theme. Fans get upset when the Twins don't do anything at the trade deadline. Fans get upset when the Twins don't do anything at the trade deadline. Fans get upset when they are extremely active at the deadline. Seems like there's nothing they can do to make people happy.

Well the Twins could have just trade like 3 guys and set themselves up for next season.

Unlike two years ago when they did nothing
Last year when the something they did was just to say they did something
or this year where they set the team back 3 years.

They could have stopped at Bader and Stewart. Instead they traded most of their bullpen, one of the few guys they had in the rotation, Their starting SS etc.

They went from ONE extreme to the Other... there would have been plenty happy fans if they hadn't traded away nearly half the major league roster.

And they were in serious discussions to trade their best pitcher at the end too.

This is a "**** you" to the fans. Just like Red McCombs trading away Randy Moss before he sold the team.

Duran, Jax, Stewart, and even Varland were at max value and we got a decent return for the guys on their last year France, Castro, Bader, and Columbe.

Actually the SP is were Falvey has struggled developing not RP. I really am not that pissed as I saw some of this coming; just not 10 players....I was thinking 5-6.

Matt and his wife may be the only 2 fans at games the rest of the year.......

Our starting pitching is elite. Most of the position players traded were basically 0 WAR players. Bullpens are pretty easy to reload. I hate trading Varland, but we did get a lot of other arms in these trades, and there are a bunch of guys in the minors that can step into bullpen roles. We may actually have what it takes to make a run this year if Pablo and Ober join Ryan as a top-notch Top 3.

Not happening...we don't have the bats now or did we before. Also no bullpen and our defense just got worse.

Odds are this debbie downer of a 24 hours will either lead to a losing streak or something spirited but we don't have the horses for this race; even before the deadline therre wasn't enough.

I don't understand trading Varland. Unless he was pissed. Or maybe the Twins know something about his arm that we don't know.

There was an argument to be made for all these trades. Except for Varland.

Why trade away a cheap semi-dominant young reliever? Makes no sense.

They are weak at LHP and catchers thru the whole system. I don’t know if the Blue Jay lefty is worth it but Louie is 27 already and you would get zilch in return for just France.

Again you trade the hard throwers for a younger version.

FWIW MLB.com slotted Kendry Rojas right behind Mick Abel and ahead of every home grown pitcher in the Twins system.

As bad as the bullpen was gutted I don’t think we could have traded Vazquez as we don’t have a replacement currently even though no one wanted him.

Jhonny Pereada. He has major league experience and could easily have replaced Vazquez's patented blend of great defense and weak hitting.

Maybe but who would pay 2 bits of Vazquez's contract?

They have to DFA him after they figure out which 10 to add.

Nothing to do with Varland. The 2 players we received back was a very good return for him. France was a cheap throw in.
The market was hot for relievers.....smart to max that out.

Sands, Prielipp, Adams, Funderburk/Misiewicz our bullpen now?

Lots of time between now and April, but a 13-man staff of

Lopez, Ryan, Ober
Matthews, Bradley, Festa, SWR, Abel
Sands, Prielipp, Ohl, Adams, Funderburk/Misiewicz

will be better than a lot of teams.

Rojas, Raya, Morris, Culpepper, Lewis, etc still in the wings...

Keep in mind we improved our starting pitching. Addition by subtraction getting rid of Paddack. Lopez will be back, and we'll have 2 aces. Ober coming back, hopefully effective like we was last season. Got a guy from the Phillies that's ready for a rotation spot. SWR is pitching well. We're not in a bad place. Many teams would kill for our stable of starting pitching.

Paddack is like Varland, much better suited to the pen where he can occasionally hit 100 mph.
Going forward, it will likely be Ryan, Lopez, Ober, with Zebby, Bradley, Abel, Festa and Rojas competing for the last 2 spots. I don't see SWR in the mix as he is strictly a one time through the lineup pitcher.

My point was that they went from doing essentially nothing at the deadline for years to blowing the team up this year.

They could have done a lot better with trading just 4-5 and they traded 10 major leaguers and Randy Dobnak.

I honestly have no problem with what they did. This team needed to be blown up. There were no core everyday players in the lineup to retool around. They got good returns on top 100 prospects who are at or near major league level with an elite long term minor leaguer.

David Levine -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (8/1/2025 11:40:19 AM)

I wonder if this has anything to do with the very real potential of losing the 2027 season?

twinsfan -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (8/1/2025 11:54:25 AM)

Dear Matt,

This week, we made a clear and deliberate decision to strengthen the next chapter of championship-caliber baseball for the Minnesota Twins.

We didn’t make surface moves. We acted with purpose. That meant adding players who can help now, deepening our talent pipeline for 2026 and beyond, and reinforcing the foundation for long-term success.

This wasn’t about patchwork or small adjustments. It was about holding ourselves to the standard we expect. The season so far hasn’t met that mark. We knew it was time to respond.

We’ve bolstered our pitching. We added arms ready to contribute now, along with others on the cusp of breaking through. The rotation has gained depth, and the minor league system behind it has become even more robust, with emerging talent pushing the group forward.
On the position player side, we brought in impact potential. Players with the tools to grow into everyday contributors and raise the overall ceiling of the roster. The foundation is getting stronger, and we believe the next wave is starting to take shape.

We know moves like this spark reactions. That’s natural. It reflects how much you care.

That’s why we’re positioning the Twins to compete at a higher level, not just in the short term, but in a way that can endure the ups and downs of a long season. That’s the kind of team you deserve.

The mission hasn’t changed. We’re here to build a team that can win a World Series.

This is the next push.

Thank you for your support. It's your passion that drives us every day.

Derek Falvey

Rumors have been swimming that they're close to a sale. Like by the end of August.

I don't think they're desperately trying to sell the franchise. Rich people like the Pohlads, Musk, Trump, Bezos...they lie. That's a big part of attaining wealth. And probably even a bigger part in sustaining it.
