Well that was surely not one of our better games.

Wentz was clearly not healthy, they should have realized it earlier and pulled him from the game.

If you are going to take the lumps do it with young players learning.

Bflo's vaunted defense looked like they stayed home. They let a 4th string RB run all over them like Ladanian Tomlinson.

Offensive line was well, offensive. They looked like they were backing up three yard before engaging their guy, it's no wonder the pocket collapses like it does. they opened no holes for the running game either.

Short weeks are not good for our Vikings.

The Dline would all try to go around the edge at the same time and leave a 20 no defender gap for Herbert to run through.

All around ugly game.

If we play anything remotely like this against the Lions we will lose by 50.

Jut not a well planned, played game at all.

Wentz has run his course, this season is teetering on the edge of lost, so if JJM can't go, Throw Brosmer out there and take your lumps. Time to see what you've got.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:05:56 AM)

Man, down deep, i don't think the Vikings wanted to extend KAM
They let that extension hang out there for awhile
That successful season last year and good 2024 FA class forced their hand
But man, this roster is looking bad fast. We have zero speed at RB and TE
Oline, do we have the worst reserves in the league? Its a sieve back there at times
D, its been coming. Its old and slow. Dallas Turner showed he is really bad. Dude was getting stonewalled all night
They made Dillon Gabriel look competent

1 Q vs Chi, 1 Q vs Cle, and 4 Q vs Cincy. Other than that, this team has been dominated

We have a good number picks in 2026 but little faith that KAM knows what the hell he’s doing
Oh, now they’ye gonna ask an unproven rookie to save the season
Think a disaster is coming

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:25:13 AM)

The last couple of drafts have to play out, but right now there are five starters from the past six drafts... and three of those players are Spielman picks!

There are a sprinkling of backups, but generally they make the roster because they were drafted and end up being replaced.

Kwesi had his shot this offseason to use free agency to buy his way out of his draft messes, but that spending spree is looking like a colossal waste of cap. Within a year of this literal cap breaking streak of contracts he will have to cut, renegotiate, add void years, etc just to zero out the cap deficit.

Kwesi is a bum, plain and simple. He's been in over his head beginning with the Lewis Cine pick all the way through to throwing away a 4th for Thielen.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:41:55 AM)

Current 2026 cap outlays

Jefferson $40M
O'Neill $23+M
Darrisaw $23+M
Greenard $22+M
Hargrave $21+M
Allen $21+M
Hockenson $21+M
Murphy $19+M
Van Ginkel $19+M
Fries $17+M
Kelly $12+M
Oliver $10M
Harrison Smith $4+M (void year cap)

In 2027, void year money is already over $24M

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:41:56 AM)

A good team requires a good core. A good core is built through good drafts. KAM has had a series of terrible drafts. He keeps using free agency to retool around an eroding core. We suddenly have a team of journeymen with no identity. KAM has shown no signs of figuring it out.

KOC's identity as a QB whisperer is greatly overstated. Cousins put up big numbers before KOC arrived. Darnold was a #3 overall pick, who got a chance to breath and reboot with the Niners before coming here. On top of that, he runs a poorly constructed scheme and makes baffling in game decisions.

Flores looks like he's been figured out. His aging players don't help.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:50:41 AM)

Right now, the 2026 cap hit is $33M for just the TEs.

Hockenson is averaging 32 ypg for a whopping 8.2 average, and 1/7th of a TD per game.

Oliver is averaging 9 ypg with 0 TDs.

Wierd Al Yurosek somehow got his first catch. For 5 yards.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 8:53:31 AM)

If you can do this, you ain't hurt bad enough to be deactivated.

There isn't anything wrong with Flores. The offense was on the field for 20:56 and generated just 12 first downs. At some point you get worn down.

The offense is a complete mess from top to bottom. The game plan, the play-calling, the personnel, the injuries, you name it. It's a shit show with no leader.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 9:10:17 AM)

I'm more convinced than ever that what we are currently experiencing is a battle between O'Connell and Adofo-Mensah. Ultimately, the GM wants McCarthy to play and O'Connell doesn't think he's any good. He had two solid guys in Darnold and Daniel Jones. Now he has nothing worth a damned and he knows it.

It's a pissing match.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 9:11:30 AM)

Who is worth keeping for the next couple of years?

Mason
MCarthy, see what he has
Addison
Fries
Jackson
Darrisaw
Felton
Nailor
Reichard
Long Snapper DePaola

Rodgers
Redmond and a couple of the other DL newbies
Metellus
Cashman maybe?
Greenard, not at $22M per unless he quickly gets back to 2024 form

Jefferson, but not at an average of ~ $45M
O'Neill is declining
Van Ginkel, neck injury, $20m next year, $9M in void money after that?

Where did you get Oliver's numbers? He has 2 TDs this year alone.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 9:18:43 AM)

KAM was a risk. No doubt. He was the shiny new toy, analytics, wall st., said all the right things, had exposure to SF front office (pretty good at personnel), and he may have been well respected in both SF and Cle

But, the reality is he never had to make football decisions and be the guy for personnel, drafting, etc

It's coming back to bite them. As most have said, any players worth anything were from the Spielman era

KAM may be a good cap guy, but he seems woefully deficient on identifying good, young talent.
Having Grigson as you Asst doesn't help. He was a disaster in Indy.

He didn't have the gonads to do a full rebuild, he's succumbed to this competitive reubuild crap, and extending older, washed players.

This is ultimately what happened to Spielman and Zimmer, once the trust was broken, you could see the downfall in real time. It was blatantly obvious Zimmer was miserable the last 2 years

We've already seen KOCs demeanor change a bit before the media. He seems way more tense than he did prior.

In 2025 you have to have a quarterback to win, period. McCarthy was cheap. Wentz was cheap. The other two guys weren't going to be cheap.

Analytics doesn't work in football like it works in baseball (and some would argue it doesn't work there either).

No QB, no chance.

It's time to go back to football professionals in leadership roles in the organization instead of math geeks.

They traded a decent amount of draft capital to draft Dallas Turner as their next great pass rusher, I and last night i'm watching a guy get completely stone walled player after play, missing tackles and committing stupid penalties

These the are the decisions that kill and haunt teams for years

Ah, that he does. Must have used the wrong row.

So he averages 2/7ths of a TD per game.

He's Dewayne Rudd without playmaking. Terrible.

Why is he a good cap guy?

He took a year too long to clear out the deadwood veteran contracts.
He has overpaid for a lot of players.
He does the typical contract backload and void year additions.
He's already $37M in the hole for next year (haven't checked on who our pending UFAs are).

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 9:37:06 AM)

From Ian Rapoport:

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell said “if J.J. [McCarthy] is healthy, J.J. will play” in Week 9 against the Lions.
Speaking after a 37-10 loss to the Chargers on Thursday night, O’Connell stuck to the script regarding his second-year quarterbacks availability. McCarthy is nearly six full weeks removed from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2 against the Falcons, but has been healthy enough to serve as the team’s emergency QB in back-to-back weeks. He also looked particularly nimble in Thursday’s loss when he leapt over Justin Jefferson who was barreling toward the sideline after making a catch. McCarthy has been listed as limited in every practice over the last two weeks and appears to be trending in the right direction toward a return. We’ll likely get a more definite answer from KOC once practice starts up next week.

The plot thickens. He ain't hurt, people, he ain't hurt.

Way more than a decent amount. Outside of a second-round pick it was almost an entire draft:

2024 first-round pick (No. 23)
2025 third-round pick
2025 fourth-round pick
2024 fifth-round pick

They ultimately used these picks to obtain the No. 17 pick and selected Turner.

That probably wasn't their intention but Kwesi failed to read the draft rooms and couldn't trade up.

I read a stat this morning, still trying to verify but it says the Vikings went 7 straight quarters without forcing a punt.

timz -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (10/24/2025 9:55:47 AM)

I posted this the day KAM was hired and took a ton of abuse for it. "So I have a real question that hopefully someone here can answer. Why would you hire as your new GM someone from the front office of a team as crappy as the Browns have been for quite some time now? " This is what I expect is the reason for that. " He was the shiny new toy, analytics, wall st., said all the right things,"

Currently in a race for the "who sucks more" trophy:

The OL
Wentz
KAM
Flores' scheme that can't get an opposing offense off the field or actually win on 3rd down
Our high-priced, no-impact free agents on the OL and DL

That performance (other than a few bright spots like Grenard) was another super embarrassing outing on national tv.
