Tom Sykes -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/10/2026 9:48:48 AM)

You listen too long to the pundits and wonder if Flores even cares about DTs or CBs … as if their highest priority skills are ‘occupying blockers’ for DTs and ‘patrolling short-med zone passes’ for both S and CB.

We need help in both places obviously and I would love to pair Redmond with any of the prospects on the list above.

I know Kwesi went off last offseason but the issue was not the focus (IOL-IDL) but the execution of who to bring in and at what cost.

A lot of needs but a decent young DT and C in the first 100 picks would be cool.

lyle chabot -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/10/2026 9:30:14 PM)

I was sure the Vikes were locked on the the Safety out of Oregon, but now I think they may go IDL and get a huge nose tackle to stop the run. They also need a RB and a third WR and Center. The Draft is two weeks away!

I don’t see third WR as a need, at all..

If you can’t keep a pocket clean, there is no way that read gets made..

Building a line that protects and can run block should be a priority.

Been saying it for years, but it never happens..

Exactly. Flores' scheme, which isn't even a scheme, makes things difficult to armchair predict. Like with DTs - human fire hydrant Harrison Phillips was traded for a bag of peanuts. Tonga, released. The DL incumbents are a bunch of sideshow acts... LDR put on 30 lbs by eating, among other things, "three platefuls that included a double burger, a six-egg, three-meat skillet and a Nutella-and-banana crepe."

Flores should be credited with "Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore."

Then there is the Metellus factor who chips in at CB, S, and LB which makes the need for all those positions a little less.

Chris Olson -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 8:09:55 AM)

With the relative weakness of the DT class, I feel like grabbing the best fit DT in 1 might be what would help us the most...

Not sure if any of the top guys are really a fit though...maybe Woods?

Brad H -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 9:45:25 AM)

The Vikings gave up 60 sacks last season. Without figuring that out, we are just rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic.

Best Player at 18 probably wont be DT or so maybe after a trade down. Scraping up whats left with our second pick would still improve our DL.

Tom Sykes -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 10:31:27 AM)

It always seems like some of the best value picks come at the top of the 4th rd … wish we could get ourselves in position there.

I’m always left salivating over the options there.

Murph -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 10:33:02 AM)

BPA, BPA, BPA, we don't have a position group deep enough to justify picking for need or a particular position.

Flashbacks to the Mewelde Moore, Onterrio Smith, Everson Griffin days?

True but some positions have more of a need than others. Maybe go with something like Day 1 BPA positions, Day 2 BPA positions, etc.

Todd M -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 11:08:39 AM)

I'm in favor of being conservative. Trade down, or players for 2027 stock.

Absolutely … IMO once you clear the consensus 8-12ish blue chippers, BPA is an option between several players (in the first). By the 2nd, a plethora.

Doesn’t have to be weighted by your depth chart but it cant be neglected either.

Griffin maybe. Yeah not sure we’ve hit on a lot of 4th rounders but I am always sucked in by draftniks pointing to this or that prospect that has unbelievably slipped unnoticed through the first three rounds.

Exposed the night before the draft for liking broccoli milkshakes or driving through potholes or something.

From what I've read Woods is more of a twitchy 3 tech UT for a 4-3 dline.

The more I hear about McDonald the more I like him. If he's there at 18 I'm running to the podium.

Fall back guys would include Banks, Turner, and the big Citrus.

I think we really need two DL in the first 5 picks. Cupboard is pretty bare with that unit after cutting Hargrave and Allen.

How about this?

If we have OT Proctor rated above Thieneman and McDonald. And they are all available at #18.

What should we do?

nfrosty -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/13/2026 11:53:40 PM)

It was reported that the Vikings hosted tight end Kenyon Sadiq for a Top 30 visit. I could see us take him round 1 and DT round 2. Sadiq sounds like a unique prospect and would save about 15 to 20 million a year for his rookie 4 years as that's what top TE go for. Would be a good replacement for Hockenson whose likely on his last year as a Vike.

Darrisaw and O'Neal have been injured over the past few years and are aging with no depth behind them. If they have a OT as BPA, draft him, not just for this year but for the future, especially if Procter has position flexibility, imho

Sadiq, Jefferson, and Addison would be great.

Darrisaw is still fairly young but not everyone recovers from knee surgery....so many good options.

O'Neill is an interesting case study. He'll be 31 when the season starts. Clearly on the downside of his career. Do you keep him around for three more years with visions of the 25 year old O'Neill but reality suggesting he slides into mediocrity at say $15M per? Or do you see him as soon to be overpaid veteran deadwood requiring a replacement?

And anyone picked at #18 shouldn't be left waiting for multiple years getting only spot duty while the veteran ages out. That's a waste of draft assets.

I'd rather they draft his replacement, but again there are so many other needs.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/14/2026 9:22:17 AM)

Last 4 years, games played:

Darrisaw 46 (11.5 per season; rookie year [12 games] not factored in)

O'Neill 61 (15.25 per season; 15.5 per season over his career)

With Darrisaw's injuries (especially his last one) and O'Neill's age, a case could be made that OT is the top need.

Maybe a desperate team will trade for Darrisaw or O'Neil during the draft after we pick Proctor? That would really be threading the needle.

Tom Sykes -> RE: 2026 NFL Draft (4/15/2026 2:21:26 PM)

I think you ‘thread the needle’ (?) by making solid draft choices that work out, which takes time to make sure they are jackson-like, not cine-like. Before lopping off one of your decent veterans.

Trading Greenard only works because you’ve seen enough from Turner. And the potential contract is a problem.
