We're getting 3 lottery picks from them too. Not sure what the Hornets are thinking here.

Fun pairings

Ball and Ben Simmons for injury rates,
Ball and Addison for car incidents

Charlotte was smart to sell high. Minnesota get its scorer to pair with Ant, at PG, so a double win.

We are swapping three 1st round picks with them. Charlotte sucks and will be in the lottery each of those years. We get their lottery picks. They get our late-round picks.

Do you know what a swap is? They get the higher pick......the option to swap.

The Wolves have been trying to get LaMelo Ball for two years. They paid a price with Naz, but there is elation throughout the building about pairing Melo and Anthony Edwards.

BREAKING: The Charlotte Hornets are trading star guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030) and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033), sources tell ESPN.

Why are you up so early? Did your phone alerts go mad? I bet that's it!

The trade was Low BBIQ and pouty out and High BBIQ and excitement in.....I liked Naz but he was #2 on the Pouty Player list (after Randle). I liked Randle at times also but when his mood where he was Pouting....he was playing like the 6 foot Randle El and he just didn't move the ball.

I didn't like Randle El at Indiana and I didn't like him here.

Here's where the Wolves salary cap sits after the LaMelo Ball trade

If Isaiah Evans gets the $1.3 rookie minimum, the Wolves are $9.6 million under the 2nd apron with 3 roster spots to fill

If they sign 3 vet minimums, they would have $2.2 million left. Wolves could also try to re-route Josh Green's $14.6 million expiring as they need a starting power forward

There really is only one team that doesn't put all their eggs in the basket now at the pro level......the Twins.

Exciting times.....hopefully Joe sees what is going on around him.

It is an option for Charlotte....not guaranteed they will swap if their pick is higher as they will always get the higher pick....google it if it is confusing.

As of now, the Purdue forward they drafted last night is in the starting lineup. [:-]

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves Gameday (6/25/2026 12:31:57 PM)

Wilder Adams:

Anthony Edwards (24)
Lamelo Ball (24)
Jaden McDaniels (25)
Ayo Dosunmu (26)
Terrence Shannon Jr. (25)
Joan Beringer (19)
Isaiah Evans (20)

Minnesota will likely be in the East in 1-2 years

I don’t give a damn about draft picks, with all due respect.

Bobby Marks:

The Timberwolves now have the flexibility to re-sign Ayo Dosunmu and have available the $15M non tax midlevel and $5.5M biannual exception.

Minnesota will also create a $33.3M trade exception.

Great move. Which player they using the exception for? Rumors are Derrick White Dejonte Murray Trey Murphy and Myles Turner.

Most likely no one.

Big exceptions like that are rarely ever used.

Just curious. Can the Wolves use just part of the exception in a trade or do they have to use it all?

The exception does not exist. It won't be created. We rolled the Ball trade into the Randle trade. Randle+Naz = Ball+Green, thus no exception created.

That said, you can use all or part of an exception.

David Levine -> RE: Timberwolves Gameday (6/25/2026 3:01:33 PM)

The Wolves would have limited options for upgrading the frontcourt. They will no longer create a $33 million trade exception and lose access to all trade exceptions created last season, including the $10.8 million one. They also lose the $5.5 million bi-annual exception and get the reduced $6 million taxpayer mid-level exception instead of the $15.5 million one. They are highly unlikely to get a starter with that amount.

Their best path to acquiring a new starting-level forward is through trade. Green’s $14.7 million and Donte DiVincenzo’s $12.5 million salaries can be traded for players earning up to those amounts or less. If the Wolves acquire Green, they would be unable to aggregate his salary for a more expensive player. This means their options could be limited to players like Naji Marshall, Jalen Smith, Royce O’Neale, Obi Toppin, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Grant Williams, who would’ve made sense for the Wolves to be included in the deal.

They could get a more expensive forward if they expand the trade further. That would mean the Hornets reroute Green to another team, while the Wolves include DiVincenzo. This would put them in play to acquire more expensive options like P.J. Washington, Keldon Johnson, Kyle Kuzma, Santi Aldama, and Cameron Johnson.

Elliot -> RE: Timberwolves Gameday (6/25/2026 4:02:15 PM)

Yesterday, I was thinking it was likely Gobert would be traded this off-season. Now, I think with the addition of Ball, I think you kinda need to keep Gobert to cover for perimeter defensive lapses. I like the idea of flipping Green, because he's a rotational player on an expiring deal, so he should still have some value.

What's the infatuation with keeping Dante? Don't get me wrong, I like him and his play. But his deal is also expiring and it's unlikely given his injury, that he will be able to contribute during the upcoming season. He's had a bargain deal, which made him valuable before. But what's the point of retaining him given Ayo and the glut of guards on the team now?

Rudy is going to feast. We finally have a player that can throw the one pass he excels at catching - the lob.

Elliot -> RE: Timberwolves Gameday (6/25/2026 4:10:02 PM)

So, I think regarding your earlier post, you almost certainly need to flip Green, and if necessary add DDV to improve the PF position. You can maybe play McDaniels at the 4, but I certainly would not shy away from parting with Green and DDV to get a PF that can defend and shoot the 3.

I know next to nothing about NBA contracts, trades, etc, but common sense says since Charlotte is the owner/beneficiary of the swaps the likely result will be zero action.

Geez man.

Kuzma lol. That ballhog never met a shot he didn't like. He and LeMelo together would be fun to watch to see who launches a shot first. Then of course there is Ant, 5th in the league in attempts.
