As expected Nailor cashes in. "Raiders have agreed to terms with WR Jalen Nailor on a three year, $35 million deal including $23 million guaranteed, per Ken Sarnoff and Joe DiBenedetto of 1 Of 1 Agency."

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/9/2026 1:43:54 PM)

A shot at overall needs in a loose priority/order

OFFENSE (5-9)
QB (starter and/or backup... what's the plan?)
C starter
OL depth (or better depth)
WR depth (1-2)
RB depth
P
FB?

DEFENSE (6)
CB (1 starter/1 depth)
S starter
DE starting caliber
DT starting caliber or platoon starter)
ILB depth

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/9/2026 1:50:57 PM)

Another way to look at needs?

QB - the entire QB room; shambles
RB - spot starter
OL - C starter and depth
WR - depth, maybe a big-bodied vet
TE - we have a million of them

DL - some uncertainty; need some talent
ILB - mostly fine
Edge - fine
CB - one top flight CB please
S - starter

Lost Nailor and Wright, yuck!

Mark Anderson -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/9/2026 7:26:20 PM)

Did the Packers just hand us our starting Center?

Is Jenkins the player he used to be?

Had hoped we would have drafted him but instead we took Badbury a round higher. That said, based on Pro Bowl credentials he is not the player he used to be.

David Levine -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/10/2026 12:43:13 PM)

The team has agreed to a deal with long snapper Andrew DePaola. It’s a one-year deal worth a fully guaranteed $1.725 million.

DePaola has been with the Vikings since 2020, when he signed with the practice squad and was eventually elevated to the main roster, appearing in seven games. He’s been the primary long snapper for the team since 2021, and has been either a First or Second-Team All-Pro in each of the last four seasons. He made the First Team in 2022 and 2024, and was named to the Second Team in 2023 as well as this past season.

The oldest member of the Vikings’ roster, DePaola will turn 39 this July. Keeping him in the fold means that the Vikings will only have to replace one member of their corps of specialists, as the team lost punter/holder Ryan Wright to the New Orleans Saints on the first day of free agency.

David Levine -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/10/2026 12:46:19 PM)

The Vikings’ first reported move done during the legal tampering window is a two-year, $8.5 million deal for former Steelers cornerback James Pierre. The former undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic has spent his entire NFL career with the Steelers.

The 6’2, 185-pound Pierre has 147 total tackles to his name to go with 22 pass breakups, four interceptions, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries with one of those returned for a touchdown this past season.

Pierre’s best season came in 2025 as he recorded 30 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, 11 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

David Levine -> RE: Vikings Free Agency 2026 (3/10/2026 12:51:57 PM)

Entering the 2025 season, he was largely an afterthought defensively. Known more for his work on special teams, there was very little expectation that he would ever end up impacting the defense in a positive way.

But that’s exactly what Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback James Pierre did during the 2025 season, becoming one of the best stories for the Steelers. Now, he’s a guy the franchise must re-sign to pair opposite Joey Porter Jr., giving the Steelers a strong tandem at cornerback moving forward.

For his efforts during the season, Pierre was the easy choice for Pro Football Focus as the Steelers most “underrated impact player,” as chosen by PFF’s Zach Tantillo.

"Despite battling injuries for much of the season, Pierre delivered elite production when on the field. Across 255 coverage snaps, he posted an 88.6 PFF coverage grade, which would have ranked first among all NFL cornerbacks had he played more,” Tantillo writes of Pierre. “Pierre was the Steelers’ third-highest-graded defender overall, trailing only Cam Heyward and Nick Herbig, and ahead of Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt.

"His performance should have Pittsburgh leaning toward signing him to a new deal this offseason.”

At the end of the year, Pierre played 408 snaps defensively, grading out at an 86.2 overall from PFF. He allowed just 16 receptions all season on 35 targets, good for a sparkling 45.7% completion percentage.

On those 16 receptions allowed, Pierre gave up just 163 yards and a touchdown. He added one interception and recorded nine pass breakups. Those are borderline CB1 numbers, which is rather remarkable.

Gino Smith traded to the Jets

I was wondering why the JETS would pay that salary, but its a good deal for them.

"Trade: the Raiders are sending QB Geno Smith and a 2026 7th-round pick to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 6th-round pick, per ESPN sources," Schefter reports.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Jets won't be paying Smith's contract for the 2026 season. The Raiders are picking it all up.

"The Raiders are paying the bulk of Geno Smith's salary to facilitate the trade, per source," Pelissero reports. "The Jets get Smith for a little over the league minimum."

Smith is coming to the Jets on a deal that cost New York only 11 draft slots, as the Raiders are getting pick 208 and the Jets are getting 219 back. It's a minor move-down that guarantees the Jets don't miss out on landing their preferred starting QB this offseason.

"If the Jets had waited for him to be released at 4 p.m. Wednesday, they could've signed him for $1.3 million. ... But they would've faced competition for him. The Minnesota Vikings were known to be interested."

The #Patriots deal with WR Romeo Doubs deal is a 4-year, $68M deal with $12M more available in incentives.

We should pick up Brisker. He fills a position of weakness, and has been productive in college and with the horrible bears.

Dude has had 3 concussions, the third a serious vestibular concussion in October 2024 that sidelined him for 12 games.

The Vikings better hope someone doesn't do something similar with Murray. Another team could grab his rights next year for a pick swap and vets minimum salary.

Wow. I didn't know that and I live in Chicago and am a Penn State fan. When he's healthy, he's like a Metellus junior. But I guess he'd be a bench player at this point,

Raiders just 'signed' Maxx Crosby! What an offseason.
