It could have been so much better if the Vikings beat the lofty price of a 6th round pick for Geno Smith and a 7th. As simple as saying we'll give you a 6th and we can keep your 7th. To this point, last year's McCarthy looks better than this year's Murray.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2026 10:44:05 AM)

Cheetah seems like classic guy whose production drops wayyyy off once he losses his world class speed

Not a route runner and suspect hands imo

Tyreek is kind of interesting. We could really use a WR3 upgrade.

But he's 32 years-old and it was just 1 year ago yesterday that he suffered a gruesome dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments (including his ACL and LCL).

I'd rather try to find a RB (or especially a QB...)

I thought Jennings was our WR3? The bigger bodied contested catch wr we were lacking?

I see zero need for another wr when our qb(s) can't even get the ball to the 3 we have.

Agree with you on QB and RB.

We’ve added RBs Dallas Neal Estime recently, plus there’s still Claiborne to develop.

I totally agree with moving on from JJM and getting whatever you can … but sticking with Brosmer as your #3 offsets that move negatively IMO. We have to try out a QB or two or three … and hopefully come up with a viable #3 option.

No below avg QB floating around out there - Levis Milton etc - is going to be any less a fit system-wise for KOC than freakin’ Murray.

Because of Murray's propensity for injuries and Wentz being a statue, they may best be served finding another Mr. Fundamental Vet or someone with experience instead of the stereotypical clipboard holder they can try to develop. Which would further limit options.

For example, someone posted a rumor about Spencer Rattler. First reaction is how in the heck would he make a difference. But that type of backup caliber QB is about the best we'll get, and that's with a day 3 pick, plus assumes another team wants to trade.

Otherwise, there is little to choose from... hell, break glass in case of emergency Joe Flacco isn't even available.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2026 11:44:31 AM)

We 'should' beat Miami. And although it's still early in the season, we're tied for the 4th easiest strength of schedule. Saints could be surprisingly tough, and we play Buff and SF. Atlanta beat us last year. Outside of that there are the division games and several lesser teams.

Yet with the deep flaws on offense, it boils down to how much smoke and how many mirrors have we stockpiled. Because barring something crazy, an upper flight QB isn't riding in to save things.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2026 12:03:24 PM)

Tied for 28th in yards per rush.

Last in 1st downs: 32nd passing, T31st rushing.

Last in receptions per game. Although that's cherry picked, it's never good to be unintentionally last.

Not sure what they're seeing in Brosmer they like so much. I'd have much rather taken a flyer on Jake Strand.

Murray may prove to be unplayable in this offense or succumb to injury. Wentz will end up in the hospital after a few starts and then we're looking to Brosmer?

Agreed, McCarthy lost big career wise, unless he got himself out of a bad situation with a HC that disliked him, and into a more favorable situation, we will see.

He was given the last game to show something and chose not to. Makes it hard for many fans to stick to their guns on him at that point. He was lucky he was only on timeout for 3 weeks instead of cut. I am positive the JJM camp didn’t want him cut. That would be the highest embarrassment.

If JJM was trying to change the offense usually afforded to a Cousins or Favre. Well that just further proves it was a great move to move him.

I told you two years ago he was shitty. What took you so long?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2026 12:20:47 PM)

I made a comment on the Gophers thread that former QB, Athan Kaliakmanis, was in as a 3rd stringer for Washington. 7th round rookie. He wasn't great, made some bad throws but looked about as good as any Viking QB has in about a year. It's not hyperbole.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/4/2026 9:43:29 PM)

At the rate of the last 3 games this offense will score about 4 more tds the entire rest of the season. Terrible.

Odds are they simplified the offense and let the QB breath there........better happen soon here.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 8:31:43 AM)

My .02

The Defense continues to dominate. Special teams continue to contribute and the offense sucks donkey nuts for 3 quarters.

I have seen NOTHING out of Kyler Murray yet that is any better than JJ McCarthy was last year. Holds the ball too long. Plays scared. Doesn't take off and run when the opportunity is there.

TJ Hockenson showed up big time for the first time in years. Nice to see.

Losing Jackson and Darrisaw on the OLine could be a big problem.

I'll say it again. Whne your only RB is an aging and fragile veteran you can't give him this many reps. He's going to be out of the lineup hurt very soon with this workload. He's already been dinged up. I give Jones a lot of credit for being the warrior he's been but it's only a matter of time until he's on the shelf. I really hope Jordan Mason is ready to return right after the bye.

Things did start looking better late in this game but we let the WORST TEAM IN THE NFL hang with us and make it a one score game that we had to run out the clock on late just to win.

We are the first team since 1934 to go 4-0 and have 2 games without an offensive TD. In the last three games we've had exactly ONE offensive TD. It causes me great concern that this is the case....when we play truly good teams like Buffalo, or New England, Detroit, we will NEED to score TDs, Can't keep depending on the defense keeping the other team under 15 points.

Will Reichard is money.

Johnny Hekker lost the punting battle for a reason. come back soon Thorson.

Myles Price looks like he's inches from breaking another one for a TD every time he touches the ball.

All I can say is there were points in this game were I wonder if Murray was worth it. and I usually came to the conclusion he wasn't. The late surge is encouraging, but for three quarters the Dolphins kept shutting us down. We have enough weapsons without JJ in the lineup to beat a bad team. But we still need competent QB play and good playcalling. I am starting to wonder as well if the playcalling is part of the problem. KOC wants to run his offense but Muarry just can't right now. Why not call more designed rollouts? More plays that fit Murray's strengths? It just looks like Murray (who isn't known for his work ethic) isn't getting the system. I have liked KOC a lot as a HC and think he's still good but I am starting to think that maybe he should relinquish playcalling for a while to see if Phillips can do it better.

Hey, and ugly win is still a win and better than a pretty loss. But I would enjoy some pretty wins where the offense is clicking, the special teams are cooking and the defense is dominating. That would made me feel a lot better about a 4-0 team that is hard to watch at times.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 8:51:44 AM)

I would like to add that Demand Claiborne may be fast, but if that's all he can do we can dump him like Troy Williamson.

Fast doesn't mean shit if you have the vision of Bennett [:)][:)][:)][:-][:)] and you can't find the gaping holes in front of you.

It doesn't mean shit if you can't hold onto the ball as has been reported is a big problem for him

Fast doesn't mean shit if you can't catch the ball.

Fast doesn't mean shit if you can't pick up a blitzer from time to time.

There is a lot more to being a RB at the NFL level that just running fast. The opportunity was here with Mason out and Claiborne has done NOTHING to instill confidence. I don't have patience for a guy that everyone is excited for his speed but can't seem to do anything else.

A Running back needs vision to see where the hole will be and then use the god given speed to burst through it. I'm not sure Claiborne has a career in front of him.

Rob Viking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 9:04:49 AM)

Looking back, it was another average performance from the offense. But Murray did look more comfortable, granted vs what could be the inverse of the 72' Dolphins. Having said that I thought the Dolphins were a little frisky, Rodriguez looks like a player for them and Taffe from Texas is a good safety. Murray didn't hesitate like he did in Tampa and Hock emerged for the first time since his knee injury.

Obviously losing Darrisaw once again was unfortunate, the contact didn't look too bad but you never know with neck injuries or concussions. Still I thought the left side looked ok, Ryan O'Neil on the other hand..... I didn't like the 3rd & 1 playcall considering how they were starting to impose their will on the Dolphins D. However O'Neil can't be bull rushed by Chop Robinson like that. Got to give credit Jones, he ain't breaking one but he's been more than solid.

Reichard is the greatest kicker in the team's history. Yes there have been kickers who looked great and flamed out like Walsh and great seasons like Andersen, but nothing like this, he's automatic from the parking lot. After QB, Darrisaw, JJ and maybe Turner he might be the team's most important player. There's an argument that he is in fact the most important.

When your offense struggles to get into the endzone, your kicker by default becomes the most important player.

You would think but he has throwing deep shots down field [:-]

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 9:53:57 AM)

I wonder if KOC’s offense is faltering so badly because he is over-tapering ‘his’ system to someone contradictory to dropback non-creative types like Cousins Darnold that fit so well. They were KOC regurgitators, Murray wants to spit out his own Murray cud.

Cousins worked but was not THE plan because of our outrageous financial relationship.

Darnold was not the plan. Or at least, Darnold was signed as a placeholder to buy time. Then he vastly outplayed expectations into Cousins type money … after we had already launched our grandiose cap friendly draft plan.

Bargain non-franchisable Murray was brought in as the probable temporary starter … with a shotty, up and down resumé that was still much stronger than Darnold’s but … it was made purely on the physical characteristics that Cousins Darnold are missing.

Now, doctoral candidate KOC has to rewrite the thesis he made to get him into the program.

The weirdest thing about it all.....Kyler QBR data for week 3 has him above Maye, Baker, and Herbert even though it was near the bottom.

He was at 22 this week above Hurts, Herbert, Jones and Darnold. As bad as it has been there wasn't any Turnovers this week.

Scoggins: Vikings’ Kyler Murray experiment isn’t creating much hope

- Im curious, was there a Viking fan out there that didnt approve of signing KM for what they did? It's crazy how this appears to be turning out.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 10:29:16 AM)

Will Ragatz
@WillRagatz
Vikings' top 5 and bottom 5 PFF grades vs. MIA

T.J. Hockenson 92.9
Dallas Turner 82.7
Kyler Murray 82.3
Blake Brandel 74.3
Isaiah Rodgers 70.9

Levi Drake Rodriguez 48.2
Aaron Jones 45.9
Jauan Jennings 39.2
Byron Murphy Jr. 30.5
Harrison Smith 28.3

(Minimum 20 snaps. Just one subjective data point, should not be treated as gospel)

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/5/2026 10:29:34 AM)

O'Neil was 64.9.

I genuinely was excited about the Jauan Jennings signing.

I have no idea what his purpose is in this offense.

Yesterday with no Justin Jefferson, he drew a single target. Less than Myles Price (2).

Exactly. It's all on O'Conman to figure out how to get these guys some opportunities.

That signing is puzzling. He's a quality blocker at least.
