The only thing I would be all over there is the oysters.

One way or the other it looks like it would cost me a lot to leave there hungry. What did you go with?

All of it. That was the dinner menu. It was fantastic.

That's one of the things I like about tapas or dim sum restaurants. You can try a couple of everything and not feel like a pig. The progressive bill can be hard to keep up with, though.

That's the nice thing about a prix fixe menu - you know the total ahead of time.

Even if it's impossible for your not price fixed menu to add up to half your price fixed menu.

Not impossible. It would be easy to ring up a grand ordering off the regular menu.

I'm believe I'll never be part of THAT world.

David Levine -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 10:25:12 AM)

We only enter THAT world if we're comped.

I have no problem paying the tip on a 1K plus free dinner at Nobu....

David F. -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 11:24:48 AM)

Foie gras in three of the eight savory dishes? Padma and Tom might say the chef went a little 'safe'. lol. I'm talking out of my ass by the way.

I've never tasted foie gras but some say it's animal abuse. It's banned in quite a few countries around the world. I'd probably still want to know what it tastes like though.

David Levine -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 11:31:35 AM)

It's ridiculously rich. A small amount in each of those dishes is about right. I couldn't eat a large serving.

They had Jöel Robuchon on Top Chef once as a guest judge. They pretty much revered him. He's the "Chef of the Century" in French food.

Todd M -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 11:32:26 AM)

After reading up on it and Precott's recent animal posts I believe these geese have it better than your avg chicken.

I'd try it but put it at only 10% that I'd like it.

Probably like cavier...yuck.

Were you at all hungry after the meal was over? Go out for Big Macs like I would have? [&:]

David Levine -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 11:38:26 AM)

No. Absolutely stuffed. The portions are small, but very rich and there are a lot of them.

Todd M -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 2:06:52 PM)

A few better option there anyway.

Put those two places beside an Old Country Buffet, another place I haven't eaten, and I think it's time for some triple fountain yum.

You must gain a taste for these things. To a point you don't ever want to go back. Till then...

Todd M -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 2:10:15 PM)

Lived on the low end all my life. Ponderosa's growing up kinda guy. I certainly could get used to the large group of offerings in the middle but don't know if I'd be into all that fru fru stuff.

David Levine -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 4:48:00 PM)

I love all of it. Fast food, greasy hole in the wall spots, taco trucks in gas station parking lots...

David Levine -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 4:50:06 PM)

Looks good, but I don't ever get to Scottsdale.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (2/15/2014 5:48:30 PM)

Dined at Brother Sebastians in Omaha.
Salmon was so-so.
The Baked Alaska was to kill for. Haven't had a flaming dessert in a couple years.

Todd M -> RE: Vikes Water Cooler Thread (4/4/2014 9:38:17 AM)

That current hotties are way hotter than 70's "hotties".

Kinda been my thing.

Well, there's certainly no comparison between the two right now.

So yes, in their primes.
