As with baseball … I am finding out I miss the crowd reactions NOT AT ALL

I'm actually loving the new normal

Its the true game and nothing but the game
The Wild actually even got a fair shake ref-wise last night.
Shocked the hell out of me.

Do you think fans have any influence on officiating?
No doubt teams/coaches/reputation do. But what about this in mostly "neutral" bubble sites? Especially neutral with no fans?

Oil showing up tonight
Crawford looking his age

I had a feeling that was going to happen. Crawford gave up the easy goal the first shift in the second period, and I went to bed!

I have said my entire life … NHL refs are influenced by home crowds more than any other sport, hands down
The old even-it-up is a real thing, and usually gets the numbers looking better by games end (waiting to make things right at the end of the games when the outcome is already settled)
But I truly believe NHL ref crews keep crowd emotion in mind before they do anything.
It's on the "baseball umping in Fenway" level of frustrating things you just have to deal with.

Damn, Joe, your boys are Rollin
Toews looks rejuvenated
Nice 2-1 lead for Chicago

That one had me on the edge of my seat. Toews looks great, but Kane seems a little off right now. Some of the youngsters have been able to pick up the slack, though.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 7:09:40 PM)

Geez. The Hawks are trying their best to give this game up with stupid penalties. What was DeBrincat thinking??? Let the vets finish this game out.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 7:14:21 PM)

P.S., draisaitl is pretty good.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 7:25:30 PM)

Some teams just know how to win when it counts and yours does Joe.
Your vets are leading the way like they should and could very well end the series tonight.

Let's hope. Saad and Toews are jumping on the puck, and that should be positive in the third period.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 8:11:42 PM)

Toews always seems to make things happen when they need it the most.

My favorite hockey player was Steve Yzerman, even though he played for the red wings. He could handle any role you needed him to play. Toews is a lot like that, but he's not as good on d as Stevie Y was. He's just a winner.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 8:30:29 PM)

WHEW. Hawks win. C'mon, Wild! Get a win tonight.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/7/2020 8:32:52 PM)

A good win for your team Joe, congrats.
I still don't like that damn song they play on goals and wins though! [:D]

It's obnoxious and awesome at the same time! I get why people don't like it, though.

Said it on Day One of the BlackHawks struggle to get back to the top ….
They will do it much quicker than the Wild
Our idiot fans who laughed at anyone else for struggling should be ashamed.
We just consistently flirt with not-good-enough while the others enjoy sweet runs of success.
Getting damn sick and tired of it.

That said
Congrats joe
You back a winner.
We Wild fans risk and waste our money on the lovable long shots.
That are long shots for a reason.
Minnesota never having a Stanley Cup is the most embarrassing thing about this state most days.

Thanks, SoMn. They have a tough matchup with Vegas, but we'll see what happens. I agree with you about Minnesota not ever winning a Cup. It is the home of American Hockey, in my book, and the folks are fanatical about the sport. Just look at the numbers of people who attend the high school games! Down here, there are more janitors and ticket sellers than fans at a lot of the high school games. You all deserve a Championship. Guerin might help you start a good run, though.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/12/2020 11:40:08 AM)

Well, that game was not good for the Indian Head. They have a hard time matching up with a team like vegas. Hopefully, they will wake up game 2 and try to make it an interesting series.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/12/2020 11:51:47 AM)

Oh, and thanks to my hockey buddies for keeping this area free from political back and forth and just keeping it to hockey love and / or frustration. It is appreciated!

Tough draw for anyone

Not happy Vegas got handed a helluva sweet team
Most of us had to wait decades, to be mediocre. [:D]
I choked a little when I said this in my head ..... but I hope your guys scare the hell out of them.
And beat em up.

I agree with all of what you said. The new Seattle team will start hot out of the gate because of how they will be able to access players. Pasternak is playing really well today against carolina. Hockey on my lunch break is great!

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/12/2020 7:02:47 PM)

Geez! 3 goals in less than two minutes? The coyotes better get ready for the next game, because this one is over.

The NHL bubble has burst. Claude Julien is in the hospital with an upper respiratory issue.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL Talk (8/13/2020 5:24:17 PM)

From The Athletic.

Montreal Canadiens coach Claude Julien was taken to hospital by ambulance early Thursday morning after experiencing chest pains overnight, general manager Marc Bergevin announced.

Bergevin was not willing or able to get into the details of Julien’s condition, but did seem encouraged by some news he received early Thursday afternoon, just prior to making the announcement.

“He’s in good hands at the hospital here and everything should be fine, and we hope for the best,” Bergevin said. “There was some positive news and hopefully he can be released shortly and go back home.”

Bergevin made it clear Julien’s condition was not related to COVID-19, and that he will not be returning behind the bench for the rest of the Canadiens’ first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers. Associate coach Kirk Muller — who was head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-14 — will take over for Julien. The Canadiens have two more assistants on staff with previous head coaching experience at lower levels, Luke Richardson and Dominique Ducharme.

Oof! The Hawks are mailing it in today. We need Viking football to happen because I can't take watching the Sox and Hawks lose, and the freaking cubs win!

Claude went in for chest pains. Not good news for him, but not COVID. Hockey will carry on.
