Re-iterated again the other day, looking at Jan 1

We'd normally be well into the season at this point
I miss being able to find a game every night [X(]

At least your beach ball avatar guy is gone.

There is that. [:D]

Hope you keep it for a little while though. It's great.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (11/12/2020 9:38:48 AM)

That is damn refreshing to think about

I love beach ball netminder! One of my favorite avatars, along with Sykes’ pulp detective novel covers. Those are classic.

In a little over a month, we should be watching our favorite teams flying up and down the ice. I can't wait, even though my guys are an inferior product this season. Hockey is King!

Nah, this is the year we convert Joe into a Wild fan. Fiala / Kaprizov / Rossi will be the new sensation and Joe will climb aboard.

Good to kick it around with you, too! I actually think you guys are going to look pretty good this year. We'll see pretty soon, hopefully!

I'll see your line, and raise it with a Janmark / Strome / Nylander. The winner gets a bottle of Malort, the Windy City's finest poison.

Congrats to Prudential.

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is out indefinitely as he deals with an undisclosed illness.

"This offseason, I've been experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic," Toews said in a statement from the team. "I am working with doctors so I can better understand my condition.

"Until I can get my health back to a place where I feel I can perform at an elite level and help my team, I will not be joining the Blackhawks for training camp. I do not have a timetable for when I will rejoin the team. I am extremely disappointed, but it wouldn't be fair to myself or my teammates to attempt to play in my current condition."

Toews thanked the Blackhawks' coaching staff, front office and ownership for their understanding and then addressed the fans.

"To Blackhawks fans, I will continue to do whatever I can to get back on the ice and return to play the game I love for the team I love," he said. "I will not be making any further comment at this time and ask everyone to please respect my privacy as I focus on my health and recovery."

Toews' issue is the latest blow to a team that was already in the midst of a rebuilding project but lost two young players who were supposed to be a big part of that. Now it's also missing one of its veteran stars.

Toews has been the first-line center of three Stanley Cup-winning teams in Chicago. The 32-year-old had 60 points in 70 games last season. He has had at least 50 points in every season except one in his 13-year career and had a career-best 81 in 2019-20.

On Monday, the Blackhawks announced that 2019 No. 3 draft pick Kirby Dach will miss four to five months after breaking his wrist playing for Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship. He underwent surgery.

Forward Alex Nylander injured his knee in the playoffs last season and underwent surgery after he felt discomfort skating before this season. He'll be out for four to six months.

Toews, along with fellow Cup holdovers Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, has been counted on to mentor the team's younger players. Seabrook is coming off his own health issues, however. He missed most of last season and underwent surgery on both hips and his right shoulder.

It was going to be a very different Blackhawks team even without the injuries. Cup-winning goalie Corey Crawford was not re-signed in the offseason. The Blackhawks instead are giving a chance to young goaltenders Collin Delia, Malcolm Subban and Kevin Lankinen. Also, the team traded forward Brandon Saad to the Avalanche for young defenseman Nikita Zadorov.

Chicago finished last in the Central Division last season but made the playoffs under the modified COVID-19 rules. The Blackhawks upset the Edmonton Oilers in the qualifying round, in which Toews led the team with seven points in four games. Chicago was then eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.

Toews is out, Dach and Nylander are both hurt. Might as well trade Kane to Buffalo and call it a day. I still can’t wait for Hockey to start, though.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL Talk (12/30/2020 1:25:28 PM)

He'd have a hell of time trying to flag down a cab at the airport [:-]

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (12/30/2020 1:27:13 PM)

You'll still have a better season than us.
(that post is copied, I just throw it out every year, and it stays relevant)

Seriously tho, you guys are having a rough patch
Toews is my ultimate easy-guy-to-hate, with ties to both programs who give me the most pain ....
But I do want to say ..... ultimate professional. I worry about this announcement, it doesn't sound good, and he isn't the type to exaggerate or look for sympathy. He's been as good an all-around guy as there has been in hockey the past decade plus.
I really do hope he is ok, and he's simply just devastated by not playing. And it's not something more dire long-term.
Solid dude. Hoping the best for him at this point.

True. The scary part of it is that in Chicago, the Hawks rumor mill is always at 10 if you know where to look/listen. There is zero info about what's going on with him healthwise. I hope all my hockey friends had a great Christmas and a good year coming up. (even that smartass Jesser).

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (12/30/2020 2:52:44 PM)

Hate to say it but it gives off a Mario vibe.

Chara signs with the Capitals?????? [:-]

THAT will be a tough one to get used to

He looked like he was slowing down a bit last season. He's still got that wingspan and that won't go away, though. He only signed a one year deal? Smart move by the caps.

Great job, USA hockey
Canada seemed invincible
Not to a bunch of Americans who love the game
These victories are huge for American hockey kids.

Canada had outscored opponents 41-4 going into the game and had not given up a 5 on 5 goal all tournament. Here is the thing. Team USA is a pretty ****ing talented in its own right. Our boys came to play.
