Any thoughts or scuttlebutt on who will be our new AD?
Lets hope for a much better vetting process this time, eh?

I would not be surprised if the interim gets the job.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (8/17/2015 11:25:40 AM)

Kinda where I was headed.
Take some heat off.
She'd be looked at as a progressive step in the right direction for some.

TJSweens -> RE: General Gopher Talk (8/17/2015 11:48:03 AM)

It sounds like Goetz has done a real good job of connecting with alumni, donors and coaches since she came over from Butler. She has a good working relationship with Kill. Celtics coach Brad Stevens was the basketball coach at Butler when Goetz was the associate AD over there. He calls her's "a rock star".

The alumni and coaches are pushing hard for someone with ties to the U. Some support Goetz. Some want John Anderson. Some even want Pete Najarian.

I went there, I like sports, and I've never sexted. I think I'm over qualified. [:o]

Lynn G. -> RE: General Gopher Talk (8/18/2015 9:31:55 AM)

I'm all for women getting the top jobs in all kinds of industry, sports, politics, etc. It's not that it never happens, but women are much less likely to sexually harass their employees or the people who depend on her for information (such as a reporter). And women are less likely to start wars, scam poor people out of their pension funds (Wall Street) etc.

Again, it's not a 100% proposition, but it's amazing what a jolt of testosterone can make a person do to another person.

How many female athletic directors with a DI football program? Just curious.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Gopher Talk (8/18/2015 1:40:23 PM)

Miami off the top of my head.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (8/18/2015 2:28:05 PM)

Almost 40 years after the passage of Title IX, which promoted gender equality in educational athletic programs, and almost 30 years after the NCAA included women's sports, women hold no more than 4 percent of athletics director positions in Division One programs.

Whoops

An associate athletic director at the University of Minnesota is on leave pending an investigation into five anonymous complaints against him in the wake of Athletic Director Norwood Teague’s resignation.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The chief information officer at the University of Minnesota has resigned, becoming the second high-ranking administrator to leave in the past month.

University officials aren’t saying why R. Scott Studham left. But spokesman Evan Lapiska says there’s “no connection whatsoever” to the resignation of athletic director Norwood Teague, who quit amid revelations that he sexually harassed two high-ranking administrators.

Studham said Friday the university is a great place and he learned a lot there, but his passion is elsewhere.

As CIO, Studham oversaw IT operations across the university’s five-campus system. He came to Minnesota in 2012 after serving as CIO at Tennessee.

The university announced Thursday that senior associate athletic director Mike Ellis is on voluntary leave while outside lawyers investigate anonymous complaints lodged since Teague’s resignation.

Watched the #4 Gopher women volleyball team Wednesday night dismantle Indiana.

Some serious power and blocking ability on the front line. A very good team.

I think they were barely in the top 25 when the season started.

Correct, lower 20's I believe.

They made a number of impressive saves off spikes, and for the most part, did so with little fanfare. As if it were expected to dig everything out.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (10/30/2015 8:39:38 AM)

Always a pretty solid program, no?

Really started paying attention this year with O playing VB. Big 10 has a number of top 25 schools.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (10/30/2015 8:56:55 AM)

As usual I don't think they get enough credit
Most of my life they've been pretty damn competitive nationally if I'm not mistaken

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (11/6/2015 9:15:15 PM)

Saying he had been unfairly caught up in the investigation of his former boss, Mike Ellis resigned as the University of Minnesota’s senior associate athletics director.

Ellis took voluntary leave at the U’s request Aug. 21 pending an investigation into unspecified, anonymous complaints against him in the wake of the Aug. 6 resignation of Norwood Teague, who had admitted that he sexually harassed two university employees.

Ellis recently returned to work for a couple of days but decided he would rather accept one of several pending job offers that he has received, said his attorney, Christopher Madel.

Ellis said in his resignation letter that he was “pleased that the University has made no disciplinary findings against me, and that no discipline has been imposed or proposed against me related to any ongoing investigation.” He added that he was not surprised, “as I have done nothing wrong.”

According to Ellis’ letter to interim athletics director Beth Goetz, he will be paid through Nov. 20.

Congrats to the Gopher Volleyball women ... won their 2nd-ever B10 championship last night.

Lynn G. -> RE: General Gopher Talk (11/26/2015 9:21:18 AM)

No doubt about it, the women are saving our sports-loving butts in this state.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (11/30/2015 10:48:41 AM)

Amen

The Volley Ball team got the #2 overall seed for the NCAA tournament. They host the first round regional this weekend.

SoMnFan -> RE: General Gopher Talk (11/30/2015 2:50:26 PM)

Would be damn sweet to bring home a natty championship.
Go girls, go.

Mr. Ed -> RE: General Gopher Talk (12/4/2015 10:36:57 PM)

3-zip first round of the tourney sweep Friday, taking out Jackson State. On to Saturday, and Marquette.
