It begs the question of why she was even on the floor with less than a minute to play and a 20 point lead. Not one of Geno's brighter moments.

Mister Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (12/7/2021 11:43:44 AM)

Knee fracture for Bueckers
Out 6-8 weeks.

ESPN story just makes it sound like she was moving up the floor and fell to the floor

Nope
That happened on the jab step she made. Close to hypertension

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/21/2022 9:00:48 AM)

What happened last night? That has to be one of the biggest blowouts in B1G history.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/21/2022 9:15:04 AM)

How long is Lindsay Whalen's lifeline? She hasn't exactly shone as a coach. Not all great players make good coaches.

Agreed. Every year we hear how Lindsay's recruiting classes are better and better. Next year's is top 10 in the country. Yet it never seems to translate into wins. Recruiting is only half the equation. You need to coach them up.

Very few great players make great coaches. It's usually the people that had to scratch and claw just to make the bottom of a roster (if that) that end up as the best coaches.

Lindsay is different.

You're saying she's a great coach?

You're saying she's a great coach?

I'm saying she's a hard worker. She became one of the greatest players of all-time because of hard work. She lacked natural talent.

Bullshit.

Whalen is an incredibly gifted athlete. She's very strong, very fast, unbelievably coordinated. Fantastic start/stop and lateral agility. And that's just the physical abilities. She also possesses mental abilities that are just as much an innate talent as being able to run fast or jump high. Court vision, anticipation, split second decision making, etc.

And no great player became a great player without a ton of hard work.

Great talent + hard work = great player.

Great talent + not putting in the work = washout.

Less talent + hard work = fringe player at best.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/28/2022 8:24:10 PM)

Things continue to go bad for Whalen. Jasmine Powell has left the team and entered the transfer portal.

Could be an issue with academics.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (3/31/2022 10:02:40 AM)

Holy crap! Within a matter of days first Sissoko and then Scalia enter the transfer portal. They clearly don't see Whalen's program as a vehicle to pro ball. This is just getting ridiculous.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (4/19/2022 12:27:42 PM)

Here is a positive report amidst all the Doom and Gloom.

Minnesota native Destinee Oberg transfers to Gophers from Arkansas
Oberg was rated among the nation's top recruits when she picked Arkansas out of high school, and now she's coming back to Minnesota.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (4/19/2022 12:54:05 PM)

She averaged something like 1.6 points and 1.7 reb last year.

Maybe she isn't as good as her HS press clippings led people to believe.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (8/3/2022 5:00:45 PM)

She just can't stay healthy...

Paige Bueckers tore her ACL in a pick-up basketball game on Monday, per UConn. She will miss the 2022-23 season.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (9/13/2022 9:56:19 AM)

#Gophers WBB is reportedly bringing back all-time leading scorer Rachel Banham as Director of Quality Control.

Her role will "enhance the quality and efficiency of day-to-day operations, and is responsible for assisting with practice, game preparation, statistical analysis."

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (11/30/2022 7:17:05 PM)

Gophers women are AWFUL.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (11/30/2022 7:30:11 PM)

Oberg is worthless.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (12/3/2022 10:57:12 PM)

Nice double OT win over Penn State for a talented, but inexperienced team. Good character win. Braun is a star in the making. Her 2 FT with half a second left forced the first OT.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (12/21/2022 2:54:24 PM)

Lindsay Whalen has an illness and will miss the next game.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (3/2/2023 1:27:37 PM)

Lindsay Whalen has been fired.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (3/2/2023 1:47:09 PM)

She resigned.

We don't know for sure yet.
