ORIGINAL: TJSweens Glad to beat Taylor Hill. Bahnam is the best player the state has produced since Whalen and may turn out to be even better. Kiara Buford and Jackie Voight are the only players of any significance in their last years. Not sure about who is the "best player the state has produced" but for me time will tell re: Banham, she's just getting started. Banham & Whalen are PG, floor generals types; Hill is a combo guard who is quick, has good handle, can score a variety of ways + get to the line, create for herself & others, on top of being a solid defender. She is a very good combo guard in fact and should be early 1st round pick in the '13 WNBA draft. Hill's a far better defender then Whalen will ever be & and then Banham has shown to this point. Hill was wise to pass on MN under Borton & has a brighter future ahead of her because of that choice. Now, I think Banham is a very good player and I look forward to her growth but can only hope the 'Borton effect' doesn't mess up her promising future. I see a little different player than you do. Taylor Hill looks more to me like a strict 2G and more of a pure scorer. Hill may be a marginally better defender, but she's not an elite level defender. I think Bahnam and Whalen elevate their teammates much more than Hill does. We'll see how the graduation of Samantha Prahalis affects Hill. Well, I guess we'll have to disagree some on Hill. I don't see her as being "strictly" a SG. Watching the OSU in the first half of their season Hill often brought the ball up and initiated the offense. When she ran the point the team was not completely out of sorts. She's a high IQ player that can handle running the point and share the ball if need be, so I see her as combo guard. But they will need her to score next yr for sure. Without Prahalis next season will be interestingt. I think Hill & Amber Stokes (B10 Def Player of the Yr) are the only seniors ? It’s going to be a huge adjustment for the whole team. Not sure what they have coming in or who will be running the point. Will it have to be Hill? I don't know. If it’s a freshman, Hill will be invaluable. Does Banham have the ability to help make those around her better? I think she can. As the primary floor general, part of the role is to set the tone. But who really did Banham make better? Look back at the latter half of the season, she was pretty became, close to being "just a scorer". Her assist numbers took a nose dive as she was often the leading scorer. And it wasn't because people weren't making shots off of her passes. She was putting up shots & driving to the hole. I don't know what the guards are like coming in next season but I hope Borton doesn't screw up and at some point next season uses the excuse that it will be for the good of the team that she moves Banham to the SG position to free her up to score more [:o] As for the defensive end, Banham is not elite either. She's a freshman so she has time to show me more. As for Hill, she may not be elite to some but being a good defender ain't bad. And she’s a much better defender then Whalen ever was as a college player. Whalen was marginal at best.
