twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/1/2014 10:10:58 PM)

Let's see.....what's wrong with this picture? I can watch UC Irvine at Cal Poly-SLO or St. Mary's at BYU.......

But I can't watch #1 AZ at Cal???????

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/1/2014 10:12:45 PM)

You can watch the Wild though. They're on FSN North.

Tried that. Super boring.

Something about NHL hockey that puts me to sleep.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/1/2014 10:30:28 PM)

I'm actually really upset about the Wild game. FSN is usually the PAC-10 hoops station. If there was no Wild game tonight, I suspect the Arizona-Cal hoops game would be on. [X(][X(][X(][X(]

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/1/2014 11:15:46 PM)

Tie game. 6:00 left.

But I can't watch it.

Cal wins. Justin Cobbs the hero. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Someone please tell me if this AZ-Cal game is on TV....and if it is, what channel? Cal taking to AZ early!! 26-19 lead!

Great call Twinsfan.

Good game. McConnell played well and they still lost. Didn't realize Nick Johnson was going to go Rubio. What an awful performance from him.

You're dead to me. [:D]

Dave E -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 8:42:26 AM)

Frustrating game. Man, they need Dre back in a big way. Game was right there for the taking at the end. Didn't help that the refs swallowed their whistles on Mathieu's last shot. Walker has a case to be upset as well, but you simply can't miss that bunny in that situation. Sounds like he was in tears afterwards.

Kudos to NU. That's another well-coached team. Big 10 is going to be tough for a while; there are some legit young coaches to match up with the Izzos.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 8:56:50 AM)

Good stuff
Yep, no easy ones, and due mainly to as you say .. coaching.
Love what Miles is doing in Nebraska as well

I gave it a shot last night. But it was the same feeling I've experienced all the other times I've tried to watch the NHL over the past 10 years or so. I'd describe it as mechanical. Every team seems to be doing the same thing. Get it in the zone, hope the other team fumbles it around (which they usually don't), other team skates it behind their own net for a few seconds, get organized, go to the other end and try the same thing they just stopped. It's like they are all too good and too polished. There's no chaos in the NHL. Seems like the college game lends itself more to taking chances, leading to more exciting and unexpected plays. NHL players are too afraid to try anything out of the norm.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 11:12:44 AM)

Yep.   [&:]

That's what makes it beautiful.
They ARE so good.

Is Cal at home?
If so ... yeah, I'll believe that upset Matty

I give you credit for making the upset call too. [sm=high5.gif]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 11:20:42 AM)

I don't want to ruin if for you Matt but if that doesn't do it for you, don't watch women's tennis [:D]

They grunt hard, try to hit over the net and this continues until one of them either can't hit over the net or they hit long. And, thinking about it more, that's the men's game without all the grunting [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 11:23:11 AM)

All jokes aside, the NHL is very rigid in it's play. I think most would agree with that. It would do better if they could somehow go to Olympic size rinks. It won't happen though.

Guys are so good you have to have a defensive system these days. If not, you'll get opened like a tuna can.

Pretty easy call that an undefeated (at this point) will get everyones best game from here out.
EMOTION still rules in most sports.
The cards were stacked against the cats last night.
Matter of time before someone popped the balloon.

see : Edmonton Oilers

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 11:26:13 AM)

LOL. Yeap.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 11:33:14 AM)

Pretty good observation Matt
It really has become a chess match, waiting for someone to blink once or twice a night.
You get the chance, you better pounce.
Goalies are so much better, D is so much better, overall players are just so talented.
We watch a lot of old classic stuff on bus trips ... its AMAZING how much better players are now.
The talent of the best NHL players in the '60s or even '70s wouldn't be enough to get them past bantams at this point.
They were the best in the world at the time, but lacked SO many basic skills.
And the goaltending was HORRIFIC, at best. (compared to now)

That's kind of common misconception (that the men don't grunt as much). It's just that their grunting is in a lower octave so you don't get that high pitched squeeeee sound. But some station once did a back-to-back montage of clips of women playing and then men playing, and trust me, the men grunt just as much.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/2/2014 2:13:28 PM)

And the Wolverines go down too.
Bloody Weekend in the B10 continues.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/5/2014 9:27:55 PM)

How do you call the bailout foul in a tie game with 31 seconds left?

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/5/2014 9:29:49 PM)

And then no foul for the 2 handed push on Hollins...sigh...

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/5/2014 9:31:58 PM)

HOLY SHIT!!!!

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/5/2014 9:32:52 PM)

How do the Purdue kids not know they had a foul to give?
