Gophers up 5 with just over a minute left. Will we be surprised in a good way that they win one on the road, or will be surprised in a bad way because they blow a lead with just seconds now on the clock?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/16/2014 7:09:43 PM)

Looks like all of the Big 10 road teams won today. Even the Gophers. I'm not sure Northwester had a bucket in the last 7 minutes of the game. Still it was a nail biter down the stretch.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/16/2014 7:09:45 PM)

Wanting the former but expecting the latter.

Now it's a six point lead with 10 seconds. It seems like we always have the kind of teams that could even give that up.

Make it an eight point lead with the free throws.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/16/2014 7:10:12 PM)

And done. Yay - the unexpected win!

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/16/2014 7:21:36 PM)

Gophers win.
Nebraska beats Michigan State.
Creighton beats Villanova.
I couldn't ask for a better day.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/17/2014 8:48:27 AM)

Needed that W,didn't see it. Sounds like it was not the prettiest win, but a win is a win.

Can't believe they had not won at NW since 2008. Another reason Tubby had to go.

Beat me to all three things: not seeing it, w is a w, Tubby's failure to win at NU. Great minds. [:D]

A win is a win, but we're going to have to play much better than that to get in the NCAAs. You're not going to win many games where the other team gets up 15 more shots than you and you shoot 56% on FTs. We played their game, which sometimes happens, so it was good to see us make plays in the last 5 minutes to win.

Where would this team be without Little Dre? He's without a doubt in my mind our most important player right now. I'm pretty disappointed in the Hollins boys, especially Austin. He played good D on Crawford yesterday, but he needs to assert himself more offensively. Dre might be slowed by his ankle still, but if we're going to make a run, he needs to get back to being our best player.

Ellenson leaving the team to focus on track. Nice!

Bring in Piper and that center for 2014.

No shock at all there. PT vanished with Tubby's departure.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/18/2014 3:26:25 PM)

So did any chance of recruiting his brother.

So loses a BB scholarship, I wonder if the track team gave him one or they are like baseball and just give half scholarships?

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/18/2014 8:45:48 PM)

What's the point in focusing on track? There's no future in track.

Dave E -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/18/2014 9:43:10 PM)

Didn't appear to be much of a future in hoops for Wally, either.

Tell that to Usain Bolt, or countless others. What's wrong with doing what you love? It's not always about the money.

Unless he has a dream of the Olympic

He has a legit shot at the 2016 Olympics in the high jump.

On the other hand, he's played 110 minutes of basketball over 2 years. He had no future in that sport.

According to Doogie, we were already out of the running for him.

Dave E -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2014 10:50:36 AM)

A Tubby special...recruit the older brother in hopes of getting the younger brother. Tried it twice, both times the older brother left pissed and we never had a shot with the younger brother.

Yeah, there was a direct quote from the kid in the St. Paul paper that he wasn't considering the Gophers because his brother wasn't playing at all.

Man, if we only would've played a 31% shooter with a 1:1 rebound to foul ratio, with 2 assists, 1 steal and 0 blocks in 110 minutes...

But boy can he jump high!

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2014 8:55:26 PM)

Ugly

3-15 3Pt shooting in the first half.

Clunk
Clunk
Clunk

Lucky to be up 3

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2014 9:15:51 PM)

Losing to Illinois in the 2nd half. There's no excuse for this.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2014 9:24:43 PM)

The Gophers always stink against Illinois even when Illinois sucks.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2014 9:39:43 PM)

This is unwatchable.

dribble, dribble, dribble.

Down by 11 with eight minutes left.

bye
