NITIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:12:16 PM)

YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:12:39 PM)

Nice finish. Played smarter.

Didn't get a chance.

They axed the coverage about 10 seconds after the buzzer. [&:]

Loved seeing Dad yelling at MO.

Too funny.

Peyton Siva picked a good night to get a lot of camera time.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:19:58 PM)

I'm super impressed with this year.

New coach inherited a total ragtag group of kids. Bigs that don't fit his system at all. Added a tiny PG that no one wanted.

Dealt with injuries to key players. Ran line-ups put together with duct tape that never should've worked.

Had a very good year.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:21:11 PM)

That was simply awesome! What a great championship game! Austin Hollins was outstanding. Very entertaining. Checking out the championship trophy presentation on ESPN3 now.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:24:15 PM)

WE'RE #69!!!
WE'RE #69!!!
WE'RE #69!!!

Seriously though if the NIT is the tournament you're in, then win the NIT. Really happy that Austin gets sent off with a win. Good job by Richard this year. I can't to see how it goes next year when the players that fit his system start to trickle in.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:27:05 PM)

Agree guys.
The team I'm associated with is in a really crappy conference.
We have guys who poo-poo winning it.
KNow whats worse than winning a crappy game or conference or tournament?

NOT winning it. [:D]

THAT was a fun game.
NO shame beating that SMU team. They're solid.
Good boost into Pitino Year 2!

HUGE THREE !!!!!
I can teven be sarcastic about that... that was SWEET
I actually let out a yell

Yeah, me too.

Sarcasm aside, you'd always rather win. [:D]

I did too. A loud Napoleon Dynamite YESSS!! Haven't been able to do that in forever.

That's awesome
I meant it.
I actually leapt up and yelled, like my old days
Something about it ... it was beautiful.
So happy for Hollins. He's been a warrior imo.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:45:28 PM)

Very happy for Austin. Our house did a loud YES on his 3 as well. Fun.

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 8:53:27 PM)

Starving
Desert
Crackers

I think that could be my new fantasy team name...[;)]

In all seriousness, I'm proud of them for winning. Hopefully they can carry the mo over to next year for a significant tourney run. Sweet 16 >>>> NIT championship.

Yes, for a dunk contest. Idiots.

The rare time we get a chance to see a Minnesota team win a championship and they cut away the coverage of the celebration and awarding of the trophy. [X(]

Apparently it switched to ESPN3, but of course our cable plan doesn't have that.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 9:17:56 PM)

Thanks Ed.

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 9:22:33 PM)

In all fairness, Lynn...I doubt there were 100 people outside of Dallas and Minneapolis watching that game.

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 9:24:31 PM)

...and I'm not one to voluntarily defend ESPN on things. [;)]

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 10:03:23 PM)

It was still a championship game. Seems a little more important than a slam dunk contest, the basketball equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/3/2014 10:04:55 PM)

As it happened I stumbled on the Big 10 network's coverage of the game and got a nice peek at the post game fun.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/4/2014 8:38:55 AM)

April 3, 2013: Pitino hired. April 3, 2014: Pitino wins NIT.

I would say that this is pretty good progress.
Look forward to the new up-coming season, to see
what transpires.....and who is recruited to fill the three
seniors on this squad!

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/4/2014 9:28:38 AM)

A very solid first year for Pitino, the kid can coach. Now he needs to recruit. We need to entice Minnesota's top talent to stay home and poach a few good kids from other locations. We need more size, skill and overall athleticism to really compete with the big boys.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (4/4/2014 10:26:58 AM)

I got a good laugh out of the shots of Rick Pitino sitting behind the Gophers bench, yelling out instructions while Rich had the team assembled during timeouts. I kept waiting for him to look up and go "will you shut-up".

Me too, almost wondering who was the real coach. It's almost like he's grooming his son to be his replacement.
