Whaaaaaa? No posts?
We kept it close!
Wheeeeeeeee.

Bleh ending to bleh year.

Not sure what to be optimistic about next year.Lots of unproven talent.

No floor leader, nobody to control the tempo of each game.
Cannot shoot free throws....
We need another couple of big men to man the post;
and a guard or two who can run the show, and shoot free throws!

yeah. Other than that, they're loaded [8|]

Mason should be the floor leader.

Morris the gunner needs to learn to play D, or should leave.

The bigger guys, Buggs, Diedhou(sp) and Khonatay(also sp) need a ton of work.

Another lost season.....
Ho...hum
We are very familiar with this pattern of lost seasons!!
It is all about recruiting, and I don't think Pitino will be
able to recruit them.
Tyus would have looked good at point guard!

Buggs was, by far, the biggest disappointment for me last night. Well, the young guys that is. Walker was bleh too but he's leaving so.....

Jeff, I think my biggest disappointment from yesterday's game was King and Walker both getting into foul trouble early...King his his first 3 pointer, and Walker was playing well, but don't know how to stay out of foul trouble....then Walker gets his 3rd before the half is completed.....lack of proper coaching is to blame!

Why do the Gophers men team say no to the lesser tournaments after they were left out of the NIT?

Seems to me this team needs to play as many games possible.

Agreed. Those that don't want to play should just skip it.

And leave the team. They need to play to be ready for next year.

If it's seniors? Good Bye.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2015 9:22:06 AM)

I think once the NCAA and NIT pass you up, you have to pay to play in any remaining tournament.

I think the Lady Gophers played the low level tourney 2 years ago and skipped it last year.

And .. In really exciting news, if they do play in it, they may see Tubbys awful team there.
So we can see what we are, and what we were, and what we will always be ......

And that is sad isn't it... I have not followed this program since Bobby Jackson and company made that run that wasn't in the NCAA's.
I have lost all interest in a game that takes 45 minutes to play out the final 2 minutes on the clock due to non stop fouls and time outs.

Actually feel a little better this morning...
I remember watching that Louisville team dismantle us early in the year and wondering if they (Louisville) were any good. (they sure looked like it)

answer .... [sm=yup0zd.gif]

Doesn't hurt to have one of the best coaches in college basketball, eh?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/28/2015 2:35:37 PM)

Had to chuckle ... you could immediately pick out every "bettor" in the bar last night, when that last meaningless foul was called in the Dukie game.
(swung the spread) [:-][:-]

Would be a solid get. Great to hear. He was a McDonald's game finalist. Can play a lot immediately. #gophers

I just got word from a source that @jordanmurphy24 is "almost certain" that he will be committing to the #Gophers this afternoon.

I also heard that @jordanmurphy24 had a great visit to the #Gophers and if/when he does commit, it's because of @CoachBenJohnson.

@DWolfsonKSTP: Jordan Murphy to the #Gophers is done. Just got a text here at the ballgame. HUGE get.

UMN coach Richard Pitino gets $400,000 raise, according to source
By Marcus R. Fuller
mfuller@pioneerpress.com

Gophers men's basketball coach Richard Pitino received a $400,000 raise, to get his annual salary bumped to $1.6 million a year, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Pitino, who was contacted by Alabama during its coaching search in April, has a 43-28 overall record, including 14-22 in the Big Ten in two seasons at the University of Minnesota.

The Gophers failed to make the postseason in 2014-15 after finishing 18-15 overall and 6-12 in the conference, but they still signed a seven-player top-40 recruiting class.

With his new contract, Pitino is expected to receive two more years added to the four years left on a six-year contract he signed in April 2013.

Last month, Pitino said he was committed to turning the Gophers program around and developing his young team. But his name also was mentioned with the Florida opening after Billy Donovan left for the NBA.

When asked in April about a potential raise this offseason, Pitino wouldn't confirm anything was finalized. But he talked about being in constant discussions with Gophers athletics director Norwood Teague about all aspects of the program.

"The thing that I love and probably my favorite thing on a day-to-day basis is working with Norwood Teague," Pitino said. "There's no more supportive athletic director in the country. He totally understands that. So we're always working together to figure out ways to get the commitment level to the highest it could possibly be.

That doesn't happen overnight. We're definitely working towards it. We've got such an open line of communication. He understands what I want. I understand what he wants."

Wow.
Starting to think I worry wayyy too much about my production while at work.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (6/11/2015 6:55:21 AM)

A raise? sssssss

Win some real games.

I'm sure we had to match the $ offered by Alabama. Maybe not Florida, which I imagine would be a much higher paid position.

If I was Pitino, I'd probably demand the same thing. You know the money is there.

Is this a surprise since he has a defibrillator in his chest?

University of Minnesota recruit Jarvis Johnson will not be medically cleared to play basketball, the school announced via a press release on Monday.

He's a big-time recruit. Would be a massive win to keep him in state.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (6/15/2015 4:55:08 PM)

I know David, but outside of Callipari or ... blech ... Bo Ryan, I can't think of a coach I hate to see get Trent more than Coach K.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (6/27/2015 10:07:45 AM)

One of the first goals a coach should have is to land your home state stars.

Then you go elsewhere to fill out your recruiting class

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (6/27/2015 4:53:27 PM)

The problem is when your state produces the kinds of recruits that get Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and all of the other royal programs going after them. Until you establish your program as competitive, those guys aren't staying home.
