Big win! Punch our ticket to the dance!

Now let's win a few more and get us a good seed for the dance.

Corleone -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2017 8:35:52 PM)

You know, these guys ain't so friggin bad...

Wins like these last two are so huge both for ranking and psychology. We win last game on a put back of a missed shot and we got a win in overtime after blowing a nice lead late in regulation. That is not what I'm used to as a Gopher fan. We are starting to believe in ourselves.

We're certainly capable of losing games we should win. But we have proven we CAN win the close games from time to time. That's better than the past 6-7 years.

bstinger -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/19/2017 10:30:03 PM)

Another big win late in a game we shouldn't have let get to OT. Nice for the program to get off the schneid against Michigan. Coffey needs to start showing up in the 1st half.

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/20/2017 9:18:47 AM)

Quite the nail biter.

On the road to face a tough Maryland team.

Corleone -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/22/2017 9:19:58 PM)

We for reals.

4-5 seed in the Dance very possible at this point...and if they can ever keep the bigs out of foul trouble they'll be a tough out against anyone. Most improved team in college basketball this year by wins, gotta tip the cap to lil Richie.

bstinger -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/22/2017 9:39:48 PM)

Yuge win, YUGE!

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/23/2017 7:24:22 AM)

Unbelievable. Great win esp on the road.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/23/2017 8:28:24 AM)

That looked like a very tournament ready team last night.

TJSweens -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/23/2017 8:38:26 AM)

It looks like the freshmen and sophomores that they are relying heavily on are maturing. Last night they just closed it out without making it interesting.

Incredible
Pulled themselves out of the rut.
Kinda fun right now.
Would be nice to see this program turn a corner.
There are some real dedicated fans who deserve a break on these guys.

McBrayer, Konate, and Curry off the bench played really well.....

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/23/2017 11:50:09 AM)

The Daly Gopher:

Minnesota defeated Maryland 89-75 on the road in College Park. With the win, Minnesota is now 9-6 in Big Ten play and 21-7 on the season. Trailing by a point to open the second half, Minnesota poured in 55 points in the second half to win in a convincing fashion. The Gophers now have a six game winning streak in Big Ten play, which is the first time that has happened since the seasons we can’t talk about. This team has the first winning road record in B1G since the year we can’t talk about. They have five wins on the road, and now have a road win against a top 25 team in late February. I do not remember the last time they had a meaningful road win against a top 25 team in late February.

McBrayer has been hot from downtown as of late.

Great to have a couple guys that can get hot like him and Springs

It will be really nice to have a good PG off of the bench next year....Mason has taken up a ton of slack and Coffey/Brayer/Springs have had to handle the ball a ton......

In years past this team has been offensively challenged for the most part.

Being able to score 80+ points in B1N game is making it fun again to watch. Couple that with a front court that can own the boards. Those rebounds = 2nd chance points

SoMnFan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2017 1:00:23 PM)

And .............. here we go ......

Pitino being courted by South Florida

Lather, rinse, repeat

They haven't had the inside precense of Shotblocking, Rebounding, and scoring since Mbawke...but I think he is a full 2 inches shorter than Lynch. Mbawke was about Jordan Murphy's size.....now they have 3 shotblockers/rebounders/scorers on the team....Lynch, Murphy, and Curry plus they have great overall size of Coffey, McBrayer, and Springs playing the wings. Then you add Konate off of the bench throwing some bodies around......going to be a tough team to handle come tourney time.

Phil Riewer -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2017 1:07:46 PM)

Pitino's bonuses:

Pitino salary is 1.6 million but he gets 5% raises and another 400k bump in 2019....

http://deadspin.com/heres-richard-pitinos-minnesota-contract-complete-wi-470877141

Richard Pitino declared to his players after Wednesday night’s victory, “There is no more talk about the NCAA tournament. We’re talking about seeds in the NCAA tournament.”
The Gophers all-but secured their spot on the March Madness dance floor after upsetting No. 24 Maryland 89-75 in College Park, Md. Pitino’s team moved into the top four in the Big Ten standings and in position for a double bye in the conference tournament.
Wednesday night’s victory also all-but guaranteed Pitino a $50,000 bonus. His contract stipulates a $50,000 payment each year the Gophers make the NCAA tournament.
The incentives don’t stop there.
If the Gophers finish with a winning record in the Big Ten regular season, Pitino gets another $50,000. The Gophers are 9-6 with three games to play -- meaning one more victory locks up that check (conference tournament games don’t count against the Big Ten record).
The $50,000 Big Ten regular-season champion bonus would require a lot of help from the rest of the league, but a co-championship scenario is still possible. If the Gophers win the Big Ten tournament, add $25,000 to Pitino’s account.
Some observers are starting to buzz about Big Ten Coach of the Year honors for Pitino. That would come with a $25,000 bonus. National Coach of the Year, perhaps unlikely unless the Gophers make a deep run in the NCAAs, would run up another $50,000.
Wait, there’s more.
Pitino gets $50,000 if the Gophers advance to the Sweet 16, and – we’re getting too far ahead, but hey, it is written in his contract – another $50,000 if they make the Final Four. A national championship? That’s a $100,000 bonus.
Add it all up and Pitino is line for at least a $100,000 bump, and that could double, or more, if the Gophers stay hot.
And Pitino likely won’t be the only coach on campus cashing bonus checks.

The size and length of these guys is visually apparent esp at first glance.

They might have the best hair dews as well.

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/25/2017 3:14:54 PM)

Trying for a revenge win at home vs Penn State

Lynch blocked SIX in the first half, has school record of 90 in a season (and counting).

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/25/2017 4:06:06 PM)

Another win. Cementing tourney spot with wins they should get.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/25/2017 4:10:33 PM)

They just keep rolling.
