I wished they had shaved their heads 6 weeks ago.

Gophers mauling the Hoosiers tonight.

Was a fun night in the barn. Not a capacity crowd. Took a couple of 3's by Johnson and Westbrook to get the fire going.

They're still getting shoved around in the paint. Man, Iverson and Sampson just get manhandled by smaller, huskier guys.  A couple of sets where Indiana had multiple offensive rebounds...ugh.

But Johnson kicked it in gear on the offensive end. The early 3 gave him confidence. Plus the Hosers were smaller, so he got some good post ups.

The offense still is a tick slow. Too much thinking before passing. Multiple times Hoffarber/Westbrook were wide open. Only to get the ball a half second too late. The D had recovered.

Joseph does what he can, Cobbs ran the o better(tho his shot is lousy).

Allen has the quicks. His first foray in was impressive. Then he got more PT and leveled off.

Tubby sure had some interesting lineups out there. One period had Cobbs at point and no one else under 6'7".

Was a fun night. I think each team only scored 9 points in the last 7 minutes, but that was ok, since they'd kicked 'em around.

The alley-oop from Sampson to Williams was THE play of the night. If you didn't see it, I hope you get a chance to.

Forgot you were there, Ed
Sounds like a great time.
Bet the kids loved it.
Can always remember the excitement of the kids more than my own, when they are pre-teens and you take them to a big-city venue, it's like opening up a whole new world to them. Will always remember the looks on their faces when you first walk out of tunnel and out into the seating area, it takes their breath away when they are younger. Their eyes can't get any bigger, as they try to take it all in. Always a hoot.
Thanks for the on-site info, sounds like Tubby definitely has some pieces he needs to fill in.
Disappointing they are still getting muscled, thought that was one area we should have been getting better in.

This is what I was expecting early in the year.

Like Myron tweeted (on Gopher strib page)

They lost to this team?? I don't get how flat they must have been. Glad I saw zero of that loss.

To their credit,t he kid that hurt them in Bloomington did zip Saturday night. DJohnson had a great d game and a great overall game.

They never should have lost to Mich at the Barn either

If they play like they did in the last 2 games, they can beat Purdue Wed

Ok, lets not get crazy here, Jimbo . [&:][&:]

They'll need to take care of the ball, and play some good defense. Indiana was not a good barometer; I was glad they blew them out, but they should have anyway.

Damian Johnson needs to show up offensive like that every game. Hoffarber was barely involved in the offense, and Sampson and Iverson are a mess when they get the ball in the post. The only real decent move Sampson has is his sweeping hook.

But Wisconsin was and I think they beat Purdue

Gophers have not defeated a Top-5 team in Williams Arena since 1992? [:-]

Anyone old enough to remember Leo Rautins?
I was so geeked up to get him here, and his career was rather disappointing.
Then he went to Syracuse and played well.
I'm assuming Andy is his son? He's playing very well for Syracuse right now.

Well then it is about time that is updated, don't you think? [:D]

I expect to see them playing both Sampson and Iverson together again

****************************************************
Andy is his son.

I was living in NY when Leo transferred to Syracuse. He was, at that time, one of the best Canadians playing here. I think it was a knee or foot injury that prevented him from lasting in the NBA.

Andy has put together a very solid career at Syracuse. He has improved each year and he's a big part of their success this season. If only he were as tall as his father.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 8:03:36 PM)

down 24-12, still 8 minutes left in the half.

Purdue is carving them up.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 8:34:26 PM)

Nice run to end the half. 7 is manageable - would've loved if Hoffarber could've hit that 3.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 9:04:20 PM)

The Boilermakers cannot be trying. They are doing us a favor, that's for sure.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 9:40:00 PM)

Crud. Lose by 1 lousy point. [:@]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 9:40:23 PM)

And Purdue wins.

Gah, the goph's best shooter doesn't even touch the ball on the final play, set up from the huddle.

Purdue's D was much better after that big MN run.

Sucky ending.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 10:01:20 PM)

I hate how Tubby always calls TO in that situation. Let 'em play on the run before the defense can get set.

We ALWAYS hit the shot as the TO is called too. Did it again tonight.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/24/2010 11:46:49 PM)

I realize I'm the King of Exaggeration, but haven't we done that whole "drain the shot as Tubby calls timeout" thingy AT LEAST a hlaf-dozen times?
I LOVED them gettign the board on the missed FT and taking off.
I'm totally sold on staying in the flow of the action and taking your chances.
We did it and won the game. Whoops! Time out. [X(]
Setting up a shot rarely works for an offense as challenged as ours.
My biggest problem tonight was, all it did was split the time remaining from 8 seconds to 4 seconds.
You're asking your set play to be perfect when you purposely call it with 4 seconds left.
COULD have been a huge win.

I agree with all of that. I know of at least 3 times that Tubby has called a TO just when a player is getting a shot off and good. Taking a TO giving the defense time to set up isn't being smart. I did think the Joseph had a good look at the basket but that is a tougher shot from the baseline then where he made prior to the TO

This is exactly how they lost to Michigan St [X(]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/25/2010 7:03:36 PM)

Hummel tore his ACL.

Don't take Purdue in your pool to the final 4. [8|]

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/27/2010 4:00:45 PM)

Low scoring 1st half Minn up 24-14. Gophers playing mainly zone

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/27/2010 4:06:02 PM)

Sounds like a football score.
Big Ten basketball ... setting offense back decades!

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/27/2010 5:50:55 PM)

Big win on the road. Also I hope this game shows them they can close out a team. Very disappointing this year seeing them half good sized leads against Purdue and Michigan St only to lose to them in the last seconds
