I think you can now win in big-time DI hoops without a legit 5. But what do you do when you DO run into a team with a real 5? Or do they not exist anymore?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:04:27 PM)

It's a mans game down there underneath.
Whoa!

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:06:25 PM)

14-4run rocking the Barn
Nice ....

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:07:13 PM)

Rodney Williams CLUTCH at the line.

If we had a center, we'd be unstoppable.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:08:33 PM)

GREAT FINISH!

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:09:02 PM)

Only 4 fouls on the home squad in the 2nd half.

10+ on MSU.

Looks like another one of those Big 10 games where the refs get influenced by the crowd. We'll take it this time.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:09:41 PM)

Love the no-dribble back and firths all the way to the hoop.
Sweet!

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:10:18 PM)

SMF gonna be late for practice....and that's OK. Just don't let your players know you were late cuz you were watching pumpkin pushing. That never goes over well with the hockeyheads I knew growing up.

Yep
I'll admit that too
Been very good to us

Figured so. That's why I admire you so much for doing both. Rare. I suppose it helps you grew up playing hoops. Nowadays, you pick one or the other. And you are taught to hate the other.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:12:47 PM)

What a fun weekend at the U
Sure coulda used that FB upset .....

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:13:56 PM)

We finally have a team of tough sobs
I likey.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:16:51 PM)

I hated BBall as a kid (hockeyhead here). I started following Gopher hoops during the Bobby Jackson run. I still can't take the NBA but I love Gopher hoops.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:23:34 PM)

That was fun.

I get what you guys are saying about the Center thing, but (*puts on maroon colored glasses*) we have two legitimate (by size) big guys who are both sophomores and the hope is that one of them shows a fair amount of improvement by tournament time. Mbakwe is as strong as anyone and has almost the wing span of anyone, he's just a bit shorter than most centers. My bigger worry is point guard play and a shooting threat, but Andre Hollins makes me feel better about both of those with each passing game.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:26:04 PM)

Ahanmisi showed potential last year, but doesn't look like he's getting much floor time anymore. Probably a good thing.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:32:38 PM)

Ahanmisi is a career backup, but also arguably the only true point guard on this team. He was forced into a bad situation as a true freshman when Nolen was injured and Joseph decided to toke up in another state, but he has improved quite a bit.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 3:47:33 PM)

Really hated announcers talking about Gophers not being in top 10 since 82-83. The year that was wiped out the team was #1 going into the big dance and final 4 appearance still hurts

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 4:00:34 PM)

Was at the game. The Barn is BACK. Haven't heard it that loud that consistently for a long time.

On the team, some things to improve. But this is Andre's team and I love his aggressiveness.

Ralph Sampson III

GopherFan34 -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 4:52:00 PM)

The Gopher's finally have a PG that can score and play defense. You don't need a 5 in college basketball anymore. It's a up tempo game now and you need athletes who run the floor. Tuby finally has a team that can win the Big 10.

Loved how they welcomed Tyus Jones by yelling his name. I think they want him to stay here in the state

Section 208 for us, Pete.

Awesome atmosphere.

Tubby wanted that one. Starters played almost all of the 2nd half.

U FT bad, MST (2-10) worse.

My feelings on the day on some guys mentioned in the game posts:

Dre: Reggie Jackson

Mbakwe and R.Williams: lunchpail guys. Worked hard. Never thought I'd say that about Williams.

Eliason: Uncomfy off the bench

Welch: wanted to go to the hoop, not much else

Walker: Disinterested in setting picks/using a real post move/playing D

Oto: Should have played more.

Austin H: Needs to get open more at the key.

Coleman: Needs a solid 15 Ft shot.

MSU d was tough. down the stretch the U was better.

Greyhounds. MN is more athletic overall than MSU

Appling: Stud

Izzo: Manipulator extraordinairre
wayyyyyyyyy outta the coaches box multiple times. No T. Bogus

Interesting to here the barnyard with F*** Tom Izzo chant TWICE in the second half.

Great fun, William and Olivia's first U Hoops game at the Barn. They're ready to go again.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/31/2012 10:08:19 PM)

Also:

Mav: Shaky at best. Have a plan B in place.

Inbound baseline plays: Partly MSU, but please, try drawing up something different. Embarrassing.
