You have to apply the information of the stat that is calculated over thousands of situations to the unique situation you are facing. Maybe Anderson didn't like that batter facing that pitcher. Maybe he thought it was a high percentage of a strikeout or double play? You can't expect that percentage to be the same in every situation.

It worked out.

If we win sure it worked out. All the stats are strongly against bunting the runner from first to second. We likely could have scored two runs if we hadn't bunted. We will of course never know.

Impossible to assume that.

You can't even assume Coffey hits the double if we don't bunt. Once you change an event, you can't assume all following events would be the same.

I already said that.

Hopefully Meyer is good for 3 innings.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 12:22:43 AM)

Two outs nobody on. Go Gophers.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 12:25:26 AM)

We win!

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 12:25:29 AM)

Very gutsy win by the visiting team tonight. Go Gophers!!! Meyer was great in relief.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 12:26:43 AM)

Have two chances to win the regional now.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 6:22:46 PM)

UCLA wins again against Gonzaga. We have to beat them one more time.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 6:39:46 PM)

Gophers get an easy comeback to the pitcher on the first at bat, but he's safe as the pitcher makes a pathetic throw in the dirt that the first baseman should have handled, but didn't. Second batter HBP. We are in trouble already.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 6:44:08 PM)

Sac Fly brings in the first run. The good news is that UCLA might be going with their #5 starter this game.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 6:55:50 PM)

Can somebody who is watching tell me what all the stuff floating around is? Dandelions?

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 6:59:35 PM)

Neither of these pitchers are good today. Both were lucky to only give up one run each in the first inning. Stevenson for the Gophers seems to have no control at all. I hope saying that he settles down and mows them down.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:03:45 PM)

Gophers let the runner from second score without a throw on a play where I thought for sure we were going to nail him at the plate. Stevenson is throwing batting practice pitches. Waist high about middle to outside part of the plate.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:05:48 PM)

Spectacular double play started by Vavra to get us out of the inning, but UCLA scores one to reclaim the lead.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:22:59 PM)

Toby Hanson with a 3 run homer against UCLA starter Ralston. Ralston threw 8 straight balls, but Hanson swung at the 1st pitch anyway. UCLA pulled him and put in a RP that seems to have a clue, but Gophers up 4-2.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:26:34 PM)

Stevenson with back to back wild pitches followed by another nowhere close to the plate. Next batter doubles. Damage is most likely done with two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Anderson sticking with Stevenson.
Probably a mistake.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:31:29 PM)

We might have to score 10 or more to win this game. Stevenson walks the next batter. He seemed just totally not up to the pressure of pitching in this setting. He showed that with his first attempted throw to first and followed that up with batting practice pitches followed by every pitch in the dirt. Hopefully we have the RP's that can get the job done.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 7:57:36 PM)

Gophers tie the game on a sac fly that was so close to a three run homer by McDevitt.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 8:10:03 PM)

Wind aided homer for Boxwell and Gophers up 7-5 after 3. Holy Cow!

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 8:15:05 PM)

Not sure who all gets ESPN 3 and able to watch so I will continue recapping the action. Jackson Rose keeps the Bruins off the scoreboard in the 4th with a 1-2-3 inning. First inning that either team doesn't score. Get some more runs and keep the pressure on.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 8:21:18 PM)

I don't know if I have ever seen a coach as committed to the sacrifice bunt as Anderson. He bunts in every possible situation. Petterson got a hit on a sacrifice when the pitcher stumbled off the mound and didn't make it to first on time. Vavra up runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. 3-0 I'll be shocked if they don't walk him. They do. Bases loaded for Wilson one out. Gophers end up scoring 6 and that will hopefully be safe, but today you never know.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 8:25:41 PM)

Just got home from golf. 9-5 in the 4th! [:-]

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/3/2018 8:34:22 PM)

Wow 12-5 now. Scored 5 since I turned it on without making an out.
