John Anderson won his 12 millionth game the other day. (1300 actually)
Dude is the Sid Hartman of baseball coaches.
He was old when I was young. And I'm damn old.

And how did the Sports world celebrate?

As usual, the programs that win at that place aren't celebrated enough

I was amazed to learn he is only 64---started coaching at 29.

Damn.
Then he wasn't old when I was young. [:D]
That's a tough job for a 29 year old.
I was still needing supervision at that age.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/22/2019 9:13:23 PM)

CF botched a pretty routine catch as he was converging on 2B and SS in short center. Nebraska has 1st and 3rd, 1 out, in the 1st.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/22/2019 9:17:15 PM)

3-0 Huskers, this hasn't been fun. [&o]

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/22/2019 10:55:40 PM)

Huskers are dominating this one so far.
Pitching well and getting some key hits.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/23/2019 9:48:31 AM)

The 4 lowest seeds each won their opening games.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/23/2019 9:57:28 AM)

Upset day in the B10
Not surprised the Gophs head to the elim game
Am surprised to see the Illini there! [:-]
Looks like a short run for the boys.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/23/2019 4:35:40 PM)

Nice bounce back win for the boys today
9-4 over Indiana

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/24/2019 2:26:16 PM)

Huskers pounding the Hawkeyes late
9-1 in the 7th

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Baseball (5/25/2019 10:49:58 PM)

Gophers a game away from the Championship Game.

U Facebook says Meyer and Molitor were both #3 overall picks.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Baseball (6/16/2020 3:13:53 PM)

Which was 1977

The third overall pick in the 1977 MLB Draft, Molitor made his big league debut as a middle infielder with the 1978 Brewers. Molitor's manager at the time, George Bamberger, said: “He had tremendous instincts and you could see right away he was a talented athlete.

He's the 9th Gopher to be drafted in the 1st round in the 55 year history of the draft (the most of any program in the Big Ten Conference).

1969: Noel Jenke, 13th overall (Boston Red Sox)
1973: Dave Winfield, 4th overall (San Diego Padres)
1977: Paul Molitor, 3rd overall (Milwaukee Brewers)
1990: Dan Wilson, 7th overall (Cincinnati Reds)
1991: Brent Gates, 26th overall (Oakland Athletics)
1992: Jeff Schmidt, 29th overall (California Angels) *supplemental first round*
2004: Glen Perkins, 22nd overall (Minnesota Twins)
2010: Mike Kvasnicka, 33rd overall (Houston Astros) *supplemental first round*
2020: Max Meyer, 3rd overall (Miami Marlins)

Read another Winfield story the other day, about what an incredible impact he had
(was a college world series article)
One of the first super athletes
