Great game with CC tonight
Two top-notch teams battlin it out
Not sure I've ever seen the Gophers have more great opps ... and only get one in the net.
The CC goalie was outstanding, and lucky too, bad combo to beat.
Sad thing was ... our best chances came after the game-tier ... then we go to the other end, and they win it on a weak one.
Oh well, come back tomm and get em.

Couple pretty big losses to injury, and no one takes them lightly anymore ... every team new to the league takes them as the "big boys" now.
Their games with UNO and the like ... are knock-down drag-outs.
Same for them as the Gophers. The talent in the league and the country is being dispersed more evenly, imo ...... there are no patsies or pushovers anymore.
Every team now gets kids, because they want to play right away.
Blue-chippers don't go to schools anymore because of their loyalty to state or school, they go where they will get exposure and can get ice time and put up points.

Back to UND ...
My insider says they are currently down to 17 on roster (thats freakishly scary)
6 injuries, couple ineligibles, and one just recently "dismissed".
They live on the edge with that program.
Some bad breaks and poor decisions have really crippled them. Another tough loss last night.

Each team gives up 3 goals on the weekend to a very powerful offensively-minded club?
That means everyone was "all in" this weekend.

Great win at the Mooch tonight.  Never seemed in doubt although it was only a 1 goal game.  Love this teams chance for the whole thing.  YEAH, I SAID IT [:D]


Consistent offense, defense and terrific keeper.  All the elements are there.

Still say guentzels a huge reason for the turnaround
St cloud has a good squad. Hanowskis a stud. Lees a great goalie.
Need to sweep them tonight. Stay ahead of surging umd.

Our first line is as good as any in a long time.
The other teams get worn out just trying to hold their own against them.
Bugstads a beast, Raus über talented and Budish is a space eating machine.

Yup,  Scott is right.  I never had that feeling they would equalize.  In fact, despite our all season Friday woes, I was shocked we didn't bury them by 3 or 4.   We were that dominant.  What kept them in it was a few dumb penalties by us and their lack of penalties. 

Tonight will be big.

BTW- did you guys watch the "Icons" about Brooks after?  I had the game on BTN so you may not have.  Great (and true) line from someone they interviewed:

St Cloud's ......

You get the picture.  This is how teams like the Yankees and Duke must feel.  [8|]    I never had that feeling with Woog's squads. The "Don" seems to be underrated by many in the TC's.

Love that brooks piece, it's awesome.
With all of the well deserved praise he gets for the miracle on ice, he did his best work at the u.
We had some almost perfect teams during his tenure. 3 nat champs in less than a decade. Unheard of.


That statement, Jeff .... Is one I have used many many times
It fits the Yankees, the lakers, the celtics, etc ..... People have no idea how hard it is to play well for the gophers hockey team.
You have a target on your back every night. Every night. It is everyone's biggest game. Many kids cannot handle that.
It's hard to know who can and who can't. Simply being talented doesn't cut it. You have to be able to put a chip on your shoulder and carry it around all year.

It was significant

John Gilbert breaking down at the end was special

Amazing ..... His goal in 1972 was to beat the soviets in 1980

And they win. A little bit of puck luck because a late shot by the Huskies hit the post.

The first goal by St. Cloud State was a bit controversial because it came after a non-call on the other end of the ice that would have stopped play and sent a Husky to the penalty box. Thank goodness it didn't end up robbing us in the end.

I forgot about half the antics he got away with in that game.  I was so embarressed being a Minnesotan by that dude.
