I'm really not sure how Gray won team MVP this year. He didn't play enough. And when he did play, he didn't get the ball. Was this award based entirely on the first couple games of the year? I didn't see all the games, but I'd give the team MVP to that Carter defensive back.

I love Gray, but he was not utilized correctly this season. He brought little to the receiving game, and he didn't spend enough time at QB this season to help us much.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2012 10:44:54 AM)

Anyone else wondered if Eldred the punter is actually Dave?

I thought Jerry Kill was gonna level him a couple times this season. And then he'd follow up a terrible punt with an even worse one.

It was a "sorry we dicked ya around going back and forth like that" type of an award.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2012 2:47:08 PM)

Maybe the MVP award encompassed the types of things Gray did behind the scenes supporting the team.

THIS
Totally
And that's why I'm ok with it.
It's more of a lifetime achievement award. [:D]

Which Derek Jeter should have had by now, too [;)]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2012 3:10:20 PM)

Well, yeah! [:D]

Karl H -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2012 10:09:08 PM)

All B1G teams were announced today...

For the coaches selections, Michael Carter received Honorable Mention. That's it for us. Indiana who sucked and didn't make a bowl game had 5 players selected. Illinois who really sucked and didn't make a bowl game had 3. Iowa, who did beat us but didn't make a bowl game had 6.

For the media selections, DL Wilhite was named 2nd team. Honorable mention went to: Michael Carter, Ra’Shede Hageman, and Troy Stoudermire. (Indiana with 9, Illinois with 6, and Iowa with 7).

Every team had one "Sportsmanship award honoree". Mike Rallis won it for the Gophers.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2012 11:20:35 PM)

Wow.
Very telling.
No standout talent.
Great job of pointing that out, Karl.
Indiana with 5 and Iowa with 6. And us ...Thats amazing.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 8:40:26 AM)

Congrats to Wisconsin on the Rose Bowl berth.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 9:05:04 AM)

Anyone else watch Kills old NIllini team the other night?
Much better team than he has now .....
They looked very good.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 9:44:28 AM)

Looks like Gophers will face Baylor in their Dec 28 bowl game. Baylor handed Kansas St only loss and yesterday beat another ranked team in Okla St. I see no way Gophers win this

Stop being so nice. I have to live with a bunch of in-laws that will be crowing about a third trip to the Rose Bowl, yadda, yadda, yadda. They won't point out that they never would have been in the Big 10 Championship game had Ohio State not been ineligible for post season play.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 9:54:15 AM)

We rarely see Sour Lynn .... But I likey. [:D]

Agree Jim .... I watched Baylor too .... We're screwed.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 9:59:24 AM)

Anyone going?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 10:04:06 AM)

Wish I could Jeff
Cant wait for your reports.
Deep into the hockey season.
Would love to do a bowl game someday.
Have fun my man.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 10:14:41 AM)

That was a tough call for me yesterday .... Wiscy or Huskers
Kind of a syphilis / gonorrhea argument.
Wiscys a locational hatred ... Huskers are BELOVED by many of my friends, and I secretly hope they get beat ....
So that ass kicking was somewhat enjoyable, in a painful kind of way .....

If the Vikings lose to the Packers today you'll see Sour X 8 billion.

My protective strategy today is that I'm going to a girlfriend's house and we're going to be baking cookies all afternoon. The game will be on in the other room - so I'll do a score check once in a while, but my blood pressure stays much lower if I just don't watch. If the universe actually had a "fair component" the Vikings would not only win today, but crush. I'm not holding my breath.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 12:20:49 PM)

It's sickening, Lynn.
Our sports life here simply isn't fair.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2012 7:04:31 PM)

I know it sounds like the goofiest conspiracy theories, but I have honestly started to wonder if there is anyone who can run a test to find out if our state has been put under some kind of curse. It's just gone on far too long across too many sports at too many levels to just be a run of bad luck. I know I'm sounding paranoid - but this just doesn't feel like it could happen naturally.

I think there are a bunch of Minnesotans who really, really deserve the joy of celebrating a Superbowl victory - but having recently met John Kriesel I think he jumps to the top of the list. That man has given so much for our country when he lost both legs serving in Afghanistan. Then after recovering he served in our state legislature and fought for some causes that are based in compassion for his fellow man (i.e. gay marriage). He is an ardent Viking fan and pushed hard for the new stadium and I think that the planet needs to allign itself in such a way to give him a Superbowl win.

Of course, my dad was one of the best fans I ever knew (and not one bit a smack talker type). But that Superbowl win never happened in his lifetime - so I have seen first hand that fair doesn't exist.

He also pushed to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Minnesotan voters, in an attempt to stop them from voting for Democrats.

Looks like it's Texas Tech. Not much difference though. Baylor beat them in OT about a week ago.

*May be a little better if only because Texas Tech doesn't run the ball real well.

Yep. And he openly celebrates anti-intellectualism. Not a fan of his, to put it mildly.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2012 8:55:52 AM)

I was not aware that he was part of the Voter ID crowd. I know that was his party, but I didn't know he was pushing it.

What's the anti-intellectualism component? Was there some bill he sponsored that leads one to think that?

Yep, looks like yesterday paper gave me wrong info.
