Just wait until next year when Brewster finally has a deserving stadium for a university as large as the U of M.

Another plus .... playing well on ESPN.
Means an extra blue-chipper or two when you do that.
Congrats to the coach and kids, they have worked their asses off.
You can be a cynic all you want, but that is what is meaningful, he has kids who are working and are taking pride in what they are doing.
Love the unis, the attitude, the upgrade in talent, the expectations, the new stadium, its a long time a-coming.

Great to have a couple of fatties on the D-Line, they aren't getting pushed around anymore and Willie is awesome.

Biggest disappointment this year is Spry. This isn't his first fumble and I'm guessing his confidence is shot today

I'd like to see during the course of the game, the Weber take a snap from under center. If he had, I'm sure he would have gotten a 1st down at the end there.

I remember being a tyke, riding 3 hours in a car Saturday morning with Grandma and Grandpa, sitting in the old Memorial Bowl, and cheering on the Golden Gophers of Stephens, and Foggie and Upchurch. Carlson and Dungy and Fahnhorst.  Crisp, golden Fall days, snowy blustery days, hot muggy days. You name it, we were there. Cannot wait to be there again in the elements, with a rowdy college crowd .... ON CAMPUS.

WOW!!!
This was a program legitimizing win. A lot of people laughed at Brewster last year for going 1-11 after proclaiming the goal was to get to the Rose Bowl. Even though he looked Wacker like for saying it, I liked his rationale for saying it. "How can you hope to achieve it if you can't even dream it." He went out and hired great coordinators and great recruiters. Suddenly in one year we have athletes on the defensive side of the ball. Suddenly we have depth. Consider that Sam Maresh was penciled in to be the starting MLB. He has heart surgery, no problem. We move a great athlete from DE to MLB and he is thriving. In years past if a Sherels went down we would have nobody capable of filling in and been left with a massie Achiles heel. Today we didn't miss a beat against a high powered offense.

Kudos to Brewster and his staff. Just think. If we just hold serve on our home field we have 9 wins and a New Years Day bowl game.

Yeah no kidding Fargo.  One thing I wasn't happy about (hard to say that after the huge win) was the 2nd quarter offense.  We went KA like and played to not lose.

The offense is going to be a bit inconsistent as they just don't have the O-Lines that they have had in past years. This is probably the most inexperienced group I can remember in a long time.

That, and like i've said all season, Weber (as much as I like him) has a tendency to take easy sacks.  He seems to slide right in to them from time to time.  He's a pretty decent running QB but he can't "slide in the pocket" for crap.

BTW - don't let that post read negative.  I love Weber and his toughness.  Best QB I can remember on the Gophers.  The kid makes great throws, he's just still learning.

Yeap, even though we've already met my hopes this year (6 wins and bowl eligible) this is a big concern moving forward.  It's funny because I'm so giddy with the way this team is moving forward, I feel like a little Bi$## making negative comments.  Jack Simmons has been a very reliable option but that's about it.  Spry (like has been mentioned) has been a big disappointment.  After those 3 guys, I haven't even seen other guys get much action.

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. — Gophers quarterback Adam Weber played Saturday's game against Illinois just days after having arthroscopic knee surgery.
Gophers coach Tim Brewster confirmed after the game that Weber, who has taken every snap at quarterback this season save for a two-point conversion at Ohio State, had the surgery last Sunday. It came one day after the Gophers' 16-7 victory over Indiana.
Weber completed 18 of 26 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown against Illinois.
 
Gutsy performance by a lot of banged-up guys yesterday.
The bye week comes at a great time.
A winnable road game and two big ones at home. We can do this.
Bobby Bell called and congratulated Brewster on the improving D, even before the Illini game. Pretty cool.
That's validation when it comes from the schools best player (maybe ever).
This season really highlights what you need to win games ... speed, depth, and capable players.
Decker and Weber are legit threats, and Eskridge is getting better every game.
Duane Bennett was a key to the season going in, he goes down, kid steps in.
Same with Maresh and now Sherels and others.  
They are taking Brewsters "next man up" theory about adversity opening up opportunity for others to heart.
Should be in the Top 25 this week easily I would think (not that it matters)

Get everyone healthy,  no over-confidence issues, all is good.
We are a work in progress. Keep building fellas.
I see the Illini aren't taking their loss without the usual whining.
Use that. Store it in the memory bank. As long as you keep playing to prove yourselves, you'll keep improving.
There won't be any respect coming this way for a long long time. (understandably)
Will have to earn it every day. Thats a good thing. We have the right coach in that regard.
I can't see him ever getting cocky or complacent.

No kidding.  Hopefully we can get the Oline healthy.  And Sherels would be a great boost against the two passing teams coming next on the schedule.

Regarding next year:  I see 4 star recruit Bryce McNeal has recently decommitted from Michigan.  I believe he attended the Minn/Indiana game a couple of weeks ago.  Would be a nice steal.  On the flip side,  RB Eric Stephens may be having second thoughts about becoming a Gopher.  If we could only have one, I'd probably pick the WR over the RB.

Yep, we MUST find another WR to compliment Decker.  I'm guessing thats why Brewster hasn't redshirted the Freshman WR's.  Hopefully someone will develop given more time.  Even Troy Stoudermire is in the mix now.  Dunno whats up with Spry.  Kuznia has more receptions (17 vs 7 right now) than Spry.  Heck, Tow-Arnett has 7 catches at TE....

There was a serious shake up at the bottom of the rankings, with five new teams moving into the final five spots.
No. 21 Georgia Tech is ranked for the first time since early last season. No. 22 Tulsa (7-0) is ranked for the first time since 1991. The Golden Hurricane's move into the Top 25 means Tulsa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are all ranked for the first time in 63 years.
On Nov. 12, 1945, Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) was No. 8, Oklahoma (5-3) was tied for 14th and Tulsa (4-2) was No. 19.
No. 23 is Boston College. No. 24 Florida State moved back into the rankings for the second time this season and No. 25 Minnesota is in the AP poll for the first time since Oct. 9, 2005.

It's a nice accolade but it doesn't mean anything if we don't go in to Purdue and erase the past.  We've stunk there since Tiller's been around. [>:]

Purdue has always featured a spread offense that has given the athletically challenged Gopher defenses of the past fits. I think the new defense is up to the challenge.

It will be interesting ...
Teams have been spanking Purdue of late.
If we don't, it will set things back.
I agree, this will be a good indicator of how much our "athletes" have improved.
