I really want the ax. I have mentioned before that I am actually kind of indifferent about the Packers, but I hate UW athletics with every fiber of my being.

I agree. The pig/bell/moonshine jug are awesome but f that, we need
that axe dammit.

Huh, I lost my concentration when you mentioned moonshine.[sm=beer2.gif]

Gophs climb slightly ... to #22
Seems about right.

I love how far we've come, but when you see a team like The Sooners at #21 ... we may still be in slightly over our heads.

U know what, i've gone the opposite direction. Kill's boys are tough as nails and hard to play against. We still lack certain talent but i wouldn't put anything past them at this point.

shhhhhhhhhhhh.
be vewwwwwwy quiet
we are hunting badger

Don't worry, badgers are usually in their burrow, won't know we're coming for them.

sneaky bastards
don't trust em ...

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/25/2014 6:38:03 PM)

#18 in the playoff poll.  Not Bad Mr. Kill....not bad [8|]

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2014 8:42:23 AM)

Remember 2:30 gametime on Saturday, in case you're now used to the 11:00 starts like I am.

What's the consensus? If Cobb can't play do we stand a chance?

Yes. A lot of what Cobb has been able to do is because of the offensive line. Cobb is our best, but Kirkwood is a fine experienced back. He ran for almost 1,000 yards in 2012. Cobb will most likely give it a go, but I hope Kill doesn't hesitate to make the change by mid-1st quarter if he's struggling. I doubt Cobb will volunteer to come out of the game. Kill has to make the call. We need a guy that's running at full strength.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2014 9:20:12 AM)

I don't know much about Berkley Edwards, but he did have a 42 yard TD run this season.

I'd lean towards the senior Kirkwood in this game if Cobb is hobbled. But we have a number of other options that Kill may explore.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2014 10:50:56 AM)

Thanks for the input. We don't exactly have a good track record against our rivals to the east (in pretty much any sport except hockey) - so I am assuming the worst.

But by gum - it's OUR turn!

drew -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2014 11:58:52 AM)

Berkley could be out, because he got a concussion against Nebraska. I really have my doubts that Cobb will be himself. Hamstring pull and cold weather, that combo doesn't sound good. I still think we have a shot, though. I'd much prefer Cobb was getting 30 carries.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/26/2014 12:13:36 PM)

What do you guys remember of Kirkwood? It's been so long since I've seen him get extended action, I just can't recall much. Was his injury a career-changer? Is he not the back he was in 2012? Or is he simply stuck behind the more talented Cobb and Kirkwood's downfall has little to do with his injury recovery?

Helluva bloodline
I've been waiting for this kid to bust out
It felt great to steal him from Michigan
By now he's probably damn relieved not to be there. [&:]

He's faster than Cobb, but Cobb is more physical and gets the Yards after being hit. Just a tough runner

Yup.  I'd be surprised if he played.  He got his bell rung pretty hard during that game [X(]

I don't really expect us to win, although we certainly could. It should be a competitive game but I think the difference is Melvin Gordon. I'm just not convinced we can hold him down, especially in their house. Hope I'm wrong.....

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (11/27/2014 6:46:56 PM)

I know Wis list to LSU, but who else this year?

If Cobb is on his game and we can somehow limit Gordon we have a very good chance. Will be a very physical game against two teams that really pound the rock.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/28/2014 10:02:25 AM)

Cobb still listed as Questionable, not on the Depth Chart for starting Tailback, if that means anything. Hopefully he'll be OK and it's just some chicanery. I think Cobb is clearly better than the other 3 options, he does make a difference. We still have a chance with the others, but it would put more emphasis on Leidner both throwing and running if Cobb can't play, or be effective. Defense needs to play sound gap control and tackle well, don't give up any big plays, take the ball a way a couple of times, like they are prone to do and we should have a real shot at the AXE and the West title. I can't wait for tomorrow.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/28/2014 10:52:42 AM)

Gonna be in the Duluth area this weekend. Considering going to Superior to watch the game. Is this risky?

Wisc lost to LSU after leading 24-13 in the 4th qtr. They called it a neutral site, but it was played in Houston. Their other loss was to Northwestern on the road 20-14. They beat Iowa by 2 on the road. Their other two road games were versus BIG doormats.
I wish this game was at TCF this year.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/28/2014 4:32:01 PM)

Everything logical says Wisconsin is the big favorite, but the Gophers have surprised a lot of people over the last two years. I'm still clinging to the idea of the fight in the dog being more important than the dog in the fight. They can do this!

Why would you consider it risky?

Its just a game.

I have to admit that last week when Nebraska blocked the FG attempt and returned for the TD I was set to call it a night (it would have been about 2:30 Sunday morning for me) But I did stick it out to the end.

I understand that Wisconsin may win, but I am more and more convinced that any team who gets a win over the Gophers will earn it.
I am not looking for moral wins, but I no longer fear that this team will come out and just go through the motions, or when things get tough they will just fall apart.

I think this may be as important as anything that Coach Kill has installed, and that is you play smart, play hard and keep believing you have a chance to make a play that will affect the game.

This team has managed to win a couple of games the last few years that most would have expected them to lose, no reason to believe that this cannot happen again.

Too with Brewsters teams they seemed unprepared, out-coached, made too many dump penalty's and just seem completely out of the game from the start.

I am looking forward to the game against the Badgers today. The hard part is that it is a 4:30 am start time for me.

I fully expect a good game. Again, Wisconsin may get the win, the only thing that would truly disappoint me would be if we did not make them earn it.

One time I wore Twins stuff to a Tigers/Twins game in Detroit and I got heckled.

There is always that risk. Although that close to the Minn border there most likely might be some Gopher fans or at least UMD fans. Also, not sure if the shipping lane shuts down up there but there are also alot of Sailors too.
