Not happy. Worrying about this year's recruiting class is short sighted. They needed to pick someone who knew how to run every aspect of the program. Claeys has a good sideline demeanor and the clock fiasco not withstanding did a solid job on the sidelines. If your going to turn a major D1 program over to someone, he should have a longer resume than that. Don't get me wrong. I hope he becomes the greatest coach in Gopher history. I think John Gutekunst II is the more likely scenario. Then we start from square 1 again in 3 years.

Was it really necessary to move this fast on giving him the job and a multi year contract?

Did Kill have/has that much clout with the President?

My thoughts exactly

Step back with this.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2015 11:23:49 AM)

@DWolfsonKSTP
Among a lot of Claeys' incentives: $150,000 for a national title. $75,000 for home attendance average at 49K or higher.

@Skorzo60
I'm glad Claeys got the job, but it's sad U athletic department is in a position where it had no other choice.

@NSandell
Like move by Gophers to act quickly with HC/Claeys decision. Allows team to fully move forward before season's conclusion, less loose

@PhilMackey
There's no benefit to blowing it up right now. If it's not working, you can reset in a year or two.

@DWolfsonKSTP
Here's how badly Claeys wanted the job: didn't use an agent. If he had used Kill's agent, agent prob. would've pushed for more than 3 yrs.

@1500ESPNJudd
Definitely will say I was wrong if that turns out to be the case. That's what makes sports fun.

@kentwipf
@1500ESPNJudd couldn't agree with you more! Clayes approach was to "threaten" the Dept that they'd lose recruits. Not that he's best choice

Corleone handled that one.

Hilarious to see those incentives ... hilarious.
Could have promised him $70 kabillion for the National Title incentive, if that's (incentives) what he was into .... [&:][&:][&:]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2015 5:19:25 PM)

Once-heralded Gophers recruit Jeff Jones has spent recent weeks in practice working exclusively at defensive back.

wow
tired of this happening here
So excited to get some of these guys signed, and then we simply never see any return

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2015 9:47:08 PM)

2 qb's that I know of in-state committments, one from Burnsville, the other Mpls North

and given this program, neither probably wind up as a qb.

Are we so deep at RB that one of the most heavily recruited RB's out of high school can't get a shot at the position?

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 8:15:22 PM)

Leidner and Co. playing well early. D needs to show up and slow down the Hawkeyes.

drew -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 8:57:48 PM)

I think the D forgot to get on the bus to Iowa City. Hot knife through butter.

I didn't think we would win, but I didn't think it would go like this. Leidner has been really good.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 9:00:23 PM)

Yep, can't blame ML so far. D has been close to stops a couple of times, but essentially non-existent. TC needs to get them going.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 9:42:30 PM)

Game on, got a couple of stops and the O scored again. Down 6 late. Need more D.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:09:09 PM)

Is that really the best angle they had on that Iowa FG attempt? Looked like it was maybe good? But like Millen said, the fans didn't react much.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:11:52 PM)

Pretty late flag on that hold. Don't like it.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:14:24 PM)

Funny how when it's crunch time, the calls always go in favor of the more beloved B10 team. Which is never the Gophers. We need to be playing Indiana or Illinois to get an evenly officiated game.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:20:38 PM)

Nice TD. Aren't they gonna throw a flag?

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:24:15 PM)

Wow these refs are F'ing us without the lube tonight.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:27:25 PM)

That was one generous spot.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:32:08 PM)

I saw a couple holds on that run.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:36:45 PM)

Nice drive.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:39:57 PM)

That's like the only thing you can't do on an onside kick.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2015 10:47:19 PM)

Nice effort but not enough to overcome a good team and a heard of F'ing Zebras.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2015 9:46:43 AM)

What an absolute disaster of a season. We were the darlings of the media at the beginning of the year. Picked to win the West [&:]

Now, coach quit, 1 win in six conference games and won't even get a Toilet Bowl game. Good job of the AD to pick TC's. [&o]
