Seemed like we weren't that far off ...
Then we were miles off ....
Just doesn't seem like a Michigan team that should be pounding us that badly.
And ... you kick a field goal, down 33-7, with a minute left?
Really?
Explain that one to me.
Pretty hard not to be depresses after giving up that many yards to guys no one's really ever heard of.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/5/2017 8:45:30 AM)

Some more simply maddening plays from Croft last night.
WHAT does he see? Its puzzling.
Seems to be looking downfield, seems to step up nicely, and start moving, then all hell breaks loose in his brain.
late last night he breaks clear when we are at the ten, open field, he has one guy to deke, fake, elude, and all he cares about is a weird angle to the sideline at the 2.
Turn that GD thing upfield and stick it in the EZ. Do you play football? The recognition of game conditions and situations seems to completely elude him.
The huge turnover when we were still somewhat in the game ... you really aren't aware of someone gaining on you from behind? Its a FB game. Jeeeezus kid.

At least you are staying somewhat competitive.
We stopped tackling last night.
When that happens ......

One of my best friends and his wife are the biggest Nebraska fans I have ever seen. They even got me to go to a game with them, which turned out great, even tho I was the only human not wearing red there.
Anyway, I NEVER thought I'd see the day they were "shut up".
They are officially now "shut up".
They used to laugh and laugh and laugh at my Gophers.
They don't anymore. I never thought I'd see that day.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/5/2017 1:31:19 PM)

It surprises me that a major college program could be so completely unprepared for such incompetent QB-ing

Like a baseball team that starts the year with 5 untested starters and expects to be competitive.

Row the boat. Cheer SKI U MAH

Hoo HAH!

Feel like I was slimed by a snake oil used car salesman.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/5/2017 1:44:27 PM)

Barreiro and I seem to be the only two upset by the decision to kick the field goal with 2 minutes left when its 33-7
He said it perfectly
"I'd rather go down swinging, losing 33-7, then somehow feeling good about making it 33-10."
I just do not get the philosophy there.
You're encouraging your kids to get football-dumb there. Is this little league?
I'd expect every person on that sideline to revolt when he sent the FG unit out .... "WHAT???? Are you kidding me?"
I realize its reason number 12.342 on the to-do list here, but still ... start somewhere, and start by letting kids know you were embarrassed last night and better be trying to get better.
We know the kid can make a FG, Big whoop. We DON'T have a kid who can get a first down when we need it yet. Work on that.

If he wanted them to feel good...WIN THE DAMN GAME

Or at least have Nick Punto supply dilly bars.

Am I upset about it? eh, sorta. Just don't care enough, after another trouncing in a "trophy game". Agree, that the decision is dumb as ass.

THe hoopers better live up to the billing; this football rah-rah act come off-season will ring real hollow.

lylej -> RE: Gopher Football (11/7/2017 8:23:52 AM)

Forty-nine of Minnesota’s 110 players (44.5%) are freshmen or redshirt freshmen
and 76 (69%) are underclassmen.

We definitely are a young team!

Exactly why we need a leader at QB!

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/7/2017 12:59:40 PM)

PJ is transitioning from butterfly-chasing optimist, to snarky smart-ass frat boy.
Still talking a mile a minute.
Bristled when asked about kicking the FG with 2 minutes left.
Played the "Why would we do that?" card, because ya know, all of us who doubt him are idiots.
"our job is to score points, and we put three points on the board"
Ummm, getting 7, would have been an even better job, eh?
"so what if it was 33-14 instead of 33-10, who cares?"
Ummm, are you trying to make my point, or yours?
Keep talking louder and faster, coach .... keep talking.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/7/2017 1:06:08 PM)

I think we are getting a little too bogged down in small pictures here.

Until they get a legitimate quarterback, they won't be a legitimate threat. I haven't seen a good one wearing maroon and gold in a long, long time.

Instead, they've been trying to beat Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin at their own game by running the ball, and don't have the athletes to get it done. At some point if you bang your head into a wall enough times, one would think you would say ouch.

Maybe that JC recruit formerly of U of Cali will be worth something Vic **&*&*? Or Redshirt Tanner Morgan. Or Brendan Armstrong if he recommits.

Whomever it is, they need to get away from the mentality of banging it up in the middle 35-40 times a game. They are playing right into the top teams hands if they do that.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2017 2:08:32 PM)

Gophers have put up 54 points on Nebraska. I've seen the Gophers break a couple long runs in the 4th quarter. Nebraska can't tackle. I have no idea how Nebraska has won any games this season.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2017 2:40:57 PM)

Although not technically bowl eligible after that win, I think we are bowl eligible because we always have one of the top graduation rates in the country - so we should get a bowl game even if we finish 5-7.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2017 4:31:41 PM)

Not sure who that Croft was but damn. He was impressive. Where has that been all year?

Although, it needs to be said. His open field cuts make me cringe. I expect his ACL to explode every time he does. It's really awkward.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2017 4:58:19 PM)

Steve, am sadden to see the once-uber program in this current state. Getting crushed by MN is just another brick in this year's wall for NEB.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2017 5:07:27 PM)

To be fair, their offense could've stayed in the game if their starting QB didn't go down. Once he did it was over.

Well for one thing we weren't playing Nebraska every week, that's where he's been. Horrible run defense. Guys out of position, not defending their lanes. Beat one guy and there's nothing but wide open field ahead. It was ridiculous.

I think a win at Northwestern is possible, though they likely won't be favored. Then they'd have 6 and be 'legit' bowl eligible.

Even his throwing was much better. He had some drops that should have been caught. The only negative, that I can remember, was him taking a dumb sack when we were in FG range. The game was close enough, at that point, where it was a stupid mistake. Fleck looked like he lost his mind after the play so I'm sure it'll get addressed.
