Reminds me of the old Bum Philips quote (twisted a little)

"he can take his'n and beat your'n, and then take your'n, and beat his'n" (and everybody else in the country ) [:D]

That is the mark of a great coach.

Fleck just snagged a 296 lb. O- lineman from Wisconsin. It's always to nice to see that go the other way.

Rare, I would guess, in the last xx years

It would really be nice to see us get some top notch O Line. I'm not holding my breath yet though.

It used to burn my ass when year after year, Alverez would steal our best players. The Packers don't bother me that much, but I hate UW athletics like few other things in life.

Minnesota is so much smaller than states like Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania. We have to be able to keep our few good ones home to have any chance to compete. Then we need to raid a lot of theirs.

This University in general, needs to quit recruiting players out of state that have behavior flags.

Tired of the rape and sexual assault that those recruits bring with them.

Need to get the kids in our back yard first.

How about Edina's own Reggie Lynch?

At least 1 of the 6 kids in the football scandal was from Minnesota.

There is nothing special about Minnesota kids that makes them less prone to be knuckleheads or criminals.

If you're going to quite recruiting "problem kids", you need to do it in state and out.

The Gophers football program on Saturday received an oral commitment from M.J. Anderson, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive end from St. Louis, he announced on Twitter.

“I’m … humbled and blessed to say that I am Committing to the university of Minnesota,” Anderson wrote.

Anderson, a member of the 2019 recruiting class, had scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue and Arkansas, among others, according to 247sports.com.

He is the 24th commitment in Minnesota’s class for next year, and the third defensive end with Jason Bargy of Momence, Ill., and and D’Vion Harris, of St. Louis.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 12:38:29 PM)

The #Gophers are one of three teams in the nation who do not have a quarterback on the roster who has attempted a pass in a game. Minnesota is also the only team in the nation with all freshmen quarterbacks on the roster

As posted on Facebook by the U

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 12:45:55 PM)

FWIW they had 2 QB who had thrown college passes to start last year.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 12:49:21 PM)

So .... which direction are we ROWING?

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 12:52:46 PM)

If you're rowing on shit creek does it really matter what direction? All I know is that sight unseen, I have more faith in Morgan and Annexstad than I had in Rhoda or Croft ... or Leidner for that matter.

Watched a replay of a game on the B10 network last week where Leidner was playing for us.
Oh my those were bad times.
Very very bad times.
(for being a first round NFL pick, he sure did struggle ...)

Which Draft Guru said he was a 1st Rounder? Wasn't it McShay? [&:]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 1:16:19 PM)

Yeap and he took a lot of shit over it. It was awesome watching him squirm.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 1:45:00 PM)

Per strib

Annexstad named starting QB

Wow!. Turned down other D1 offers and walked on with the Gophers and just kept climbing the depth chart from day 1. Viramontes proved to be no competition, but Fleck was sky high on Morgan coming out of last year. Good for him.

Plus he brought two of his lineman (who are both rated really high) with him and gets to throw to his brother....
Curtis Dunlop 6'5" 370 Fresh
Daniel Faalele 6'9" 400 Fresh
Brock Annexstad 6'2" Redshirt Fresh

Daniel Faalele 6'9" 400 Fresh

That reminds me ... our local boy wonder is a part of the Hogs up front

He's the largest human I've ever stood next to (locally)
And yet in photos lately, and when I saw their summer get-together, he noticeably fit in and did not stand out in any way. [:-]

400 and 370 OMG.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/20/2018 8:12:44 PM)

400 lb is too big to play football effectively.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Football (8/21/2018 8:25:01 AM)

I wrestled a guy that was 330 20 years ago and he wasn't even 6'1"......I bet he doesn't weight 400 now but they for sure can play football. McKinney and Stringer weren't much lighter than 370...

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (8/21/2018 10:00:14 AM)

McKinnie is not exactly the poster child for playing effectively at 400lbs. He got close to that weight. He played at it for awhile. I wouldn't call it effective.

Do any of you know anything about the Gophers new starting quarterback? What kind of a quarterback is he?

He is a Minnesota kid, who played his first two seasons of high school ball for Mankato West, before going to HS football power the IMG Academy in Florida. His junior year he lost out to senior Kellan Mond for the starting job. Mond was the starting QB for Texas A&M as a freshman last year. Last year Annexstad initially lost out to Miami commit Artur Sitkowski, but ultimately took the job away from him in September. Zack's coach at IMG said this about it ... “It became apparent that (Annexstad) probably was the guy,” Wright said. “Not because Art did anything wrong or there were issues with Art, but the confidence level that (Annexstad) had and that he brought to the offense. … He was good on the big stage.”... Sitkowsk flipped his commit to Rutgers and could be their starting QB this year.

Annexstad is about 6'3"/ 205 lbs and is considered a run / pass option QB, who can make explosive plays. His biggest asset appears to be between the ears. He has a reputation for making the right decisions and making them quickly. Apparently nothing phases him. Fleck and his HS coaches have all said that he spends more time going over film than any QB they have ever coached before. It's also a bit of a misnomer to call him a walk on. He turned down D1 offers from Illinois, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh to walk on at Minnesota.

On paper it all sounds great. Smart, talented kid who has been battle tested and is a product of one of the most prestigious HS football programs in the country. And he is "one of us" to boot. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope he lives up to billing.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/21/2018 12:33:42 PM)

Crazy how much QB talent has gone thru West

They've basically had D1 talent at QB every year for the last decade at least, even longer
