Agree on all your points Craig.  We aren't more talented than the Badgers, you outgained us nearly 2-1.  If not for the fumble and return, that could have been a 2-3 TD final margin.  Our offense has Decker, two 4 star recruits (Carpenter and Green) and we try to run with the flotsam we have at RB.  I have no idea how Weber ran for as much yardage as he has in the past, he has absolutely no sense of when the pocket is breaking down and is slow!!  Gray needs to start getting some series because Weber just flat isn't getting the job done.

In his defense, our OL is not very good at all.  Neither is our DL, I hear about these stud tackles we supposedly have, but the next time I see them get some penetration will be the first time.

You're absolutely right on our shift from the spread to a pound it running game.  We don't have the lineman for it, and we actually could create some mismatches with our talent at WR if we put 3 or 4 of them on the field every down.  Congrats on the win Craig, you are the better team.

One of the Tow-Arnett boys out for the year (broken leg)
Tough kid. When they helped him off, I knew it was bad.
Great family.
The O-Line will really need to pick it up in his absence. Sophomore Davis takes over at center.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (10/4/2009 11:03:55 PM)

I stand by my statement that the Gophers have more talent than the Badgers overall. I think outside of the DL & OL, MN has better athletes and better talent in most other positions. IMO, the Badgers tend to look as good or better because the coaching staff knows how to best utilize them and put them in positions to succeed. A couple of examples of this are guys like Carpenter and Stoudermire. These guys are amazing talents that are being completely wasted by this incredibly inept coaching staff. Brewster's the kind of coach that would land a recruit like Adrian Peterson and then follow it up by hiring Mike Martz in order to throw the ball 50 times a game. He's an awful coach, which is unfortunate because he'd be a great lead recruiter for an actual coach!!

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/4/2009 11:19:15 PM)

You're getting me to see that, Jake.
Good points.
I've been giving Brewster lots of slack, because of the better recruits he seems to be bringing in, but you're right ... maybe he can't coach worth a damn.
Tough to find the guys who can do both.

Not sure awful is the word, but terrible confused in what he wants to run

As for the Tow-Arnett kid, it is a shame especially since he missed most of last year with a ACL problem in his knee. Funny how some guys always get hurt and others seem to escape the bad injury

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (10/8/2009 11:52:14 AM)

I just listened to Jack Brewer on PA's show. He is pretty hard on the Gophers for not fully exploiting Stoudamire's and Gray's play making abilities. He is pretty harsh on Weber. According to Brewer, Weber isn't looking off primary receivers at all (pretty much what we have been saying), he is blowing the easy throws (zipping it when he should be lobbing, lobbing when he should be zipping) and hanging Eric Decker out to dry with some of his throws. Brewer says that Decker has no business making half the catches he does, but he is just freakishly good at catching the ball.

PA told Brewe that Justin Conzemius took issue with his criticisms of Weber. Brewer's reply was "he obviously hasn't been watching any film."

I'm with Brewer. If Weber doesn't get act together this week and looks bad against a pathetic Purdue team, Brewster needs to switch to Gray before it's too late to salvage the season.

I was listen also and they both said that there is a problem with the offensive line. They could have talked about the defensive line also. Both were manhandled by Wisconsin and I'm sure will be again by Ohio St and Iowa

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (10/8/2009 12:07:49 PM)

Here is Jack Brewers web site

http://www.brewersports.com/index.html

Check out the models, they could be Dustins girl friends

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (10/8/2009 12:15:21 PM)

I still don't those are Dustin's girlfriends. He needs to produce a sex video with one of them before I believe it.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (10/8/2009 1:16:22 PM)

I've been saying all year that Weber has been killing us on O.  He really has been terrible.  Thank God, I thought I was going insane.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 11:02:38 AM)

Awww ... no snow up there?
Stadium looks great .
Homecoming .... Kick Purdues ass, give us some life, Gophs ....

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 11:15:27 AM)

Some things never change ...
Stuff the run, can't stop a pass to save our ass.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 11:27:10 AM)

Weber sucks.
All_American-type WR on your club, hasn't been thrown to yet.
as announcer says, when the D is set up with a deep safety .... don't throw long down the middle, dumbass.
This isn't your first rodeo. but you play like it is.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 11:32:54 AM)

Down 10-0 in the first ten minutes on HomeComing.
To a really struggling team in Purdue.
man.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 12:20:10 PM)

Let me update you Scott, Gophers up 14-10[:D]

Gophers need to get more pressure on the QB

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 12:31:00 PM)

They seem to play better in the second half. Let's hope they come out determined to bury Purdue.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:14:14 PM)

Let me updat eyou, Jim .... Gophers up 28-13 [:D]

Some good adjustments.
Purdue still rackign up yards tho.
Some big 3rd down conversions all day for them.
Put them away!

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:17:05 PM)

35-13

Blocked kick return for a TD.

Man has this game turned.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:21:36 PM)

35 points in the last 16 minutes.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:42:01 PM)

Every good play we do, we answer with a horrible one.
Blown coverage, easy TD
Blocke dkick, great ST
At least we are workign on the run game

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:44:00 PM)

Gotta have this first down .... no.
Same old
Same old

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:45:22 PM)

I like what I see in this Whaley kid.

Until the last TD, I was for giving Gray some extra time today. They need to give him a couple complete sreies instead of 1 play here and 1 play there

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:46:42 PM)

You can't put the game in your Ds hands when they have proven they can't stop them.
No urgency on offense to get that first down, which would have probably salted the game away.
Instead, it will be "hang on" time.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/10/2009 1:47:35 PM)

9 passes by weber today
9
If he can't be trusted, stop playing him.

Especially not play such a soft defense
