Rivalry, schmivalry. I just want them to be in the basement of the standings for about a decade while we rule. And I feel the same about all Wisconsin/Minnesota sports.

Lynn we have never been in greater agreement. [:D]

Agreed. I hate UW athletics more than I hate the Packers.

I love the way you 2 think! [:D]

Nope. I can't get on board with that. Pukers are the Puke of all Puke.

No excitement for the breaking news this weekend...

We're going to the

Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl

Personally, I hate cold weather outdoor games, and this one is most likely going to be one. I understand that football is a fall sport, and the bowl games are in December by design, but when a game becomes more about the weather, and how plays are affected by it, it takes away from actual football.

Just my personal take.

Agree. Cold weather game, in a baseball stadium, with tough logistics.

I will actually be in New York two days after this. I willl not be modifying my schedule to attend the game.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/35204627/minnesota-signs-coach-pj-fleck-deal-2029-season

Minnesota signed coach P.J. Fleck to a contract extension, the school announced Wednesday.

Fleck's seven-year extension will keep him in the Twin Cities through the 2029 season. Financial terms of the extension weren't disclosed.

"This is all about cultural sustainability," Fleck said in a statement. "We have talked about that from day one, and this new contract is a commitment to continuing to change our best academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. It is also a commitment to our elite staff and our tremendous fans."

Minnesota went 8-4 in 2022 and will play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 29.

Fleck, 42, has been at Minnesota for six years and has compiled a 43-27 career record with the Golden Gophers.

He is fifth on the Golden Gophers' all-time wins list and sixth in Big Ten wins (26).

Fleck previously spent four years at Western Michigan (2013-16), going 30-22 overall. He led the Broncos to a 13-1 season and a trip to the Cotton Bowl in 2016.

I read 7 years for 42 million or 6 million per year.

Maybe PJ can now buy an outboard motor for that damn boat.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/21/2022 12:52:46 PM)

It's pretty cool that the Gophers have a bowl game between Christmas and New Year's.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 2:10:34 PM)

Kaliakmanis drives us to one TD and goes out with a leg injury. Morgan comes in throws an absolutely beautiful TD pass. Gophers up 14-0.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 2:11:15 PM)

Looks like the Golden Greek is out for the day. He can't put any weight on his leg.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 2:32:09 PM)

A minute to go in the half and the Gophers defense goes into Donatell mode. Gave up an 85 yard TD drive in 1:09. Gave up a total of 58 yards the rest of the half.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 2:50:26 PM)

Ibrahim is now the Gophers all-time leading rusher. He shouldn't play in the 2nd half. He has a decent chance at a nice NFL payday.

This opens the door for Tanner Morgan Year 7.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 6:10:50 PM)

Decent win for PJ and crew in an embarrassing low level bowl game.

Still I appreciate him and how he interacts with his players an how they appear to appreciate him. Good guy teaching more than football to a bunch of fine young men.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (12/29/2022 6:38:11 PM)

P.J. Fleck said that Kaliakmanis and Lindenberg suffered injuries that were 'Not minor but not major" that would have caused them to miss a few weeks during the season. "That's definitely a blessing," Fleck said. "Nothing long term, which is great."

No, Morgan's eligibility is used up.

The Morgan decade has finally ended.....
He had his moments, but it is time to move on for sure.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (12/30/2022 8:58:32 AM)

P.J. has said that he'd welcome Morgan to his coaching staff, and by all accounts he was a good mentor to Kaliakmanis. He probably would be a nice asset to the coaching staff, if that's what he wants for his future career.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/30/2022 12:49:03 PM)

It was a great final chapter to Morgan's playing career. He may have a future as a coach.

It's already obvious that Athen is on a whole other level as a passer. It also looks like Kaliakmanis has some serious receiving talent heading into next year.

Story said they had 30-some yards of offense second half. They better have a plan with grandpa done as a player, and Mo moving on to the NFL

I think they will a lot more pass oriented. They have a good pair of receivers and some transfers coming in. Span-Ford coming back is a nice surprise.

I think the offense was hurt by John Michael Schmitz opting out of the game.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/31/2022 10:07:41 AM)

The oline had about 50 pounds per on each of their dline and we continued to try and run stretch plays that went nowhere at best. That was stupid too.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/31/2022 10:53:09 AM)

Yeah, I don't know what it is about Minnesota football teams that they love slow developing plays.

Minnesota Football Recruiting: Three-star QB Aaron Philo commits to the Gophers

Get to know Aaron Philo
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 190

Power 5 Scholarship Offers: Georgia Tech

247 Sports Composite Rating: .8500

Scouting Report
Philo was named Peach State Class A Division 1 Offensive Player of the Year last season after leading his team to a perfect 14-0 and a state championship, completing 69 percent of his passes (274-of-397) and throwing for 4,598 passing yards, 54 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. I don’t pretend to be an expert quarterback evaluator, but there is a lot to like from watching his film. The first things you notice are his arm and his accuracy. Not only can Philo throw the deep ball, but he can make accurate passes at all three levels. The touch on many of his passes is especially impressive, as he threads the needle through some tight windows. I wouldn’t call Philo a dual-threat quarterback but he certainly has athleticism, frequently demonstrating the ability to extend plays with his legs. I think this is a very good pick-up for the Gophers.
