They said on KARE 11 news tonight that Brewster's name is being mentioned for the KU job.

Interesting.

You used interesting ...
I'd use ....
flabbergasting
unbelievable
fantastic
totally unfreakingly flabbergastingly unbelievable

Could we get that lucky?
I highly doubt it.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/9/2009 10:38:55 AM)

So, it looks like Wednesday's To Do list just got longer:
1. Find every KU sports forum and post endless praise for Brewster.
2. Send email to every member of the KU athletics department telling them how much Gopher fans love Brew and how lucky KU would be to have him.
3. Send letters to Brewster's wife on how beautiful Kansas is.
4. Make sure the KU AD has all correct contact info for Brewster and Maturi!!

The House is considering forcing the NCAA to adopt a football playoff to determine a national champion.  [>:]

And they wonder why the public has no faith in Congress. Seriously, aren't there a few more pressing needs facing our country?

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/9/2009 12:25:18 PM)

Right now the Strib poll shows 89% would be happy to see Brewster go somewhere else.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/9/2009 4:01:07 PM)

The SMF Poll numbers are running slightly higher than that ....

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/9/2009 4:22:45 PM)

I'm fine with Brewster as long as he shit cans Fisch and hires a real OC.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/9/2009 4:24:04 PM)

I kinda knew we were in trouble when he was hired.  The writer of the introduction article had nothing of merit to report about him so the quotes were like:

"he learned from some of the greats, Gruden, Shannahan ect...".

There was nothing about what he specifically did.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/11/2009 10:21:41 AM)

CNNSI.com ranked all 34 bowl games and the Gophs' game came in at 31 which is a bit generous if you ask me:

quote:

31) Insight (Dec. 31): Iowa State (6-6) vs. Minnesota (6-6). You know it's New Year's Eve in Tempe when the Gophers are playing. And you know you're in for a long game when both teams rank 98th or lower in scoring offense.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (12/11/2009 2:22:16 PM)

Most exciting thing to come in this game will be watching Gray play a little more WR.  [&o]

Which is also one of the stupidest things, since he should be QB'ing more now, rather than waiting for open cometition in spring practices.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/11/2009 2:53:07 PM)

I tried to catch every Goph game I could between ESPN & BTN this year, but for some reason I have zero interest in this bowl game. It's odd but I can't think of one thing that peaks my interest to watch it.

I'm not sold on him being a good QB. Brewster wants a pro style offense with a power running game and when he did use Gray it was in a Wild Cat formation. This whole offense is a confusing mess

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/11/2009 4:44:18 PM)

Agreed about the offense being a mess, Fargo. I think Gray can be a quality college QB but you need a good offensive mind to utilize his strengths and put him in positions to succeed. Is there anyone out there that thinks there's any possibility at all that Fisch could do this?

Would've been nice to let him throw more than 13 passes on the year to get a better feel.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/11/2009 8:22:11 PM)

Weber has been terrible in the so called pro style Jed Clampett offense. Gray was billed as the Gophers biggest play making recruit of the Brewster era yet has never gotten the chance to make plays. This despite a relentless barrage of horrible performances by Weber.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (12/12/2009 9:54:02 AM)

I'll predict right now that Weber will start next year and the next QB will be Alipate

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/12/2009 8:08:41 PM)

Then I'll predict another 6-6 season and a return trip to the Tidy Bowl.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/16/2009 11:10:09 AM)

Looks like the Gophers will be signing a stud receiver today.

Unfortunately, this also means that Fisch probably saved his job!

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/16/2009 11:23:38 AM)

Like he was going to be fired anyway. Brewster and Fisch are good buddies. Jed is completely secure as long as Brewster is coaching.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/16/2009 12:04:14 PM)

Then I appreciate the cycle that creates because as long as Jed is around, Brewster won't be for much longer!

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/18/2009 2:57:58 PM)

This is good humor and it shows what happens when you get slick-talking Brew in a conversation with senile Sid:

quote:

Gophers head football coach Tim Brewster was also an assistant at North Carolina and Texas, and in the NFL with the Chargers and Broncos, but says without a doubt one of the best players he has been involved with is Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers, whom he recruited out of Bailey, N.C., for the Tar Heels in 1998 while working for current Texas coach Mack Brown.

Brewster was also recruiting coordinator at North Carolina at the time.

On Sunday, the Vikings will have the tough task of blocking Peppers, who was the second player drafted in 2002, has been a four-time Pro Bowler and is considered one of the best pass rushers in the game.

"He was one of the great high school football players and one of the great high school athletes ever in North Carolina," Brewster said. "He started for a Dean Smith-coached basketball team. And also started in football. That just doesn't happen. He's truly an amazing athlete."

Brewster said football was Peppers' best sport, but when you can start for a Hall-of-Fame coach such as Smith
, you have to be a pretty good basketball player.

If I recall correctly, Peppers was actually a backup forward for coach Bill Guthridge. He may not be accurate but Brewster sure spins a great yarn!

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/18/2009 2:59:46 PM)

Sid wasn't even listening I bet.  Once he heard basketball he was waiting to jump in with his "I built the Minneapolis Lakers, did you know that?"  speal.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/21/2009 1:26:38 PM)

Looks like the Golden Goofers lost Beau Allen to Wisconsin. These are the ones that piss me off. I can understand losing guys to Ohio State. Who wouldn't want to play for a championship caliber program? It's the ones we constantly lose to the likes of Wisconsin and Iowa that piss me off.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/21/2009 1:27:36 PM)

Oh well. At least we have the satisfaction of knowing Beau Allen will never work in this town again.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/21/2009 11:18:25 PM)

Beau Allen was a highly regarded recruit, rated with three stars by Rivals and was ranked number four in the state amongst high school seniors.  We could have used a good 300 lb. lineman.
