For those who didn't get their fill of Adam Weber over the last 4 years, he is playing tonight in the Eastham Energy all-star game.  Kickoff at 6:30, not sure what station....

I heard Jerry Kill on the Grandpa Sports Huddle this morning. He said he is pushing real hard to have 36 incoming freshmen next year. He says he is recruiting walk ons just as hard because they often earn scholarships and turn out to be better than some guys with a lot of stars behind their names.

LOVE that attitufe and approach.
There are always going to be a slew of kids come in and get bigger, stronger, and better.
And friend of mine played HS football here in nowhereville, USA. Average player.
He went to the Army for 2 years, came back a man.
Walked on at Arkansas when they were a power ..... and became a 2-year award winner as their special teams maniac. He turned games for them. And he barely told us about it. There are great stories like that out there if guys are given chances.

Kill's first recruiting class did not get a huge ranking, but they did lock up a lot of quality O-line recruits (6 total). They also had a couple of last minute signees including a DE from Florida. True to his word Kill got 5 prefered walk ons to agree to come. I think given the late start he appears to have done OK. It sounds like they spent more time laying the groundwork with this year's junior class. Now we find out how good he and his staff are coaching players up to their potential.

Picked up some good MN kids who have large frames.
Can see some of them becoming ST warriors pretty soon.

I see he still has 4 scholarships left also.

While stationed in Wichita Ks, Shawnee Mission Ks was a hot bed for football. I don't know about now, but it looks like the Gophers got 2 pretty good players from that town including a big QB

There is supposed to be a junior who is another big time OL from Minnesota. His name escapes me, but he is like 6'9" 290lb LT. If Kill can nail him down next year the Gophers will have a massive wall of beef to run behind for the next few years.

If we can grab a kid OSU is hard after, that would be a great initial coup for Kill.

I can't believe the influx of kids who figure to be in the 320 lb range for the Gophers. Get a couple of big strong down hill RBs and the running game could just grind teams down over 4 quarters. It will be like fighting through an avalanche to get to the ball carrier.

Yeah, because ... thats the important issue here .... how the media got ahold of it. 


IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will fire three employees and hand two others unpaid five-day suspensions after an investigation confirmed they inappropriately breached the medical records of hospitalized football players, a spokesman said Thursday.
UI spokesman Tom Moore told The Associated Press the move "is an indication of our commitment to patient privacy." He said the breaches have been reported to federal regulators, who can choose whether to seek additional fines and jail time against those involved. Moore said the hospital will not release the names of the employees involved or their positions. He said the school was "in the process" of seeking terminations and issuing the suspensions but would not elaborate.
The hospital said last week it was launching an investigation into the possibility that the privacy of the medical records of the 13 Iowa football players who were hospitalized with a rare muscle disorder may have been breached. Moore said the investigation confirmed there were five responsible for the breaches and that the student-athletes affected have been notified.
The players are affected by rhabdomyolysis, which causes muscle tissue to be released into the bloodstream and can cause kidney damage. They checked into the hospital last week after intense winter workouts and were all discharged by Sunday.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said Wednesday he remains unclear about what caused the disorder and that the university continues to investigate.

Actually the way the media got ahold of it is HUGE. I work in the medical device industry and I know first hand that patient confidentiality is considered sacred by the Federal Government. Had the hospital taken no action several Federal agencies would have lowered the boom on them. The breaching of confidentiality even for the most noble of reasons is a crime.

I also forgot to throw in prize OL recruit from last year Jimmy Gjere who redshirted this year. If Kill and his coaches are as good as advertised, the Gophers could have one of the best O-Lines in the Legends or is it Leaders division.

The way we used to watch our Gophers defensive lines in the past by Iowa, Wis, Ohio St etc

Add one more recruit, and the third Texan, to the Gophers' 2011 haul.
     David Cobb, a running back and cornerback from Ellison High in Killeen, Texas, is the 23rd member of Jerry Kill's first class of recruits to Minnesota, the school announced Friday. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Cobb gained more than 1,400 yards on the ground, with 17 touchdowns, as a senior, earning all-district honors. He also is a two-year starter on the Ellison basketball team, according to the Gophers.
     Cobb joins defensive end Michael Amaefula of Arlington and wide receiver Quentin Gardener of Denton as Texans planning to enroll at Minnesota.

This just in ... Marquis Gray is good, and the Gopher football team plans to use him in every way possible.
Revolutionary new concept over there at the U.
This new guy must be good. No, wai t... maybe the old guy just didn't have a freaking clue.
One premier player on the squad and he couldn't find a way to get him involved in every play. Dolt.
Childress and Brewster were really good friends. Whoda thunk that?

No, Kill said Gray is a QB. Period. And not just in wild cat formations. He is taking a playmaker and putting him in a postion to make plays since the ball will be in his hands every down.

No, I don't think Brewster used him NEARLY enough.
The kids talent basically forced Brewster to make room for him at WR. And he immediately was our best threat
I'm convinced Gray is the real deal. he has legitimate big-time talent. No way do you hold that back.
At least this year it sounds like we get to find out. And one series or even one or two games won't tell you that.
Weber was a good kid and a decent QB. It was nice he got to finish his career playing. But that era is over. And sticking with him for loayalty's sake did not help the program in the long run.
Looking forward to a new era.

3 receptions, 2 rushes and .5 passing attempts per game.
