I'm going to go out on limb and say it's Indy vs Wash in the Bowl.  I know everyone here says Collins stinks.  I don't really think so.   I said before the Vikes game that he makes that offense much more dangerous then Campbell.

*********************************
Pretty amazing really.  If Campbell was healthy right now I bet they would still go with Collins.

Yeap, Campbell even said as much in a local interview.

Billick fired.

Really?  I am shocked.  Shocked I say...  (please note sarcastic undertones)

Jay Glazer last night was saying that the owner was asking the players if Billick had lost them and if so, could he get them back...the answers were frequently yes, and no respectively.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (12/31/2007 1:42:07 PM)

Owens has been a Pro Bowler long before Witten.  We saw Dallas with Romo and without Owens the last few quarters and it was ugly.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (12/31/2007 2:01:39 PM)

I mentioned weeks ago that a high profile exec within the Ravens was asked about BB and his statement of "I'll be back next year".  The exec's response..."no comment".

Mine would be close to that actually, though I'd put Garrard and Garcia both above Hass.  I'd put Collins just above Eli for last, with Vince above them and pretty even with Rivers.  Both Rivers and Vince have a ton of talent still to me, and I think both will rise to the occassions somewhat in a playoff atmosphere.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (12/31/2007 5:39:00 PM)

The Titans need to make a big play for Stallworth.  He would fit that offense perfectly.

I thought he was a free agent but maybe not

Young really needs to heal that hammy to be a stud.  That mobility is what made him dangerous

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (12/31/2007 5:48:14 PM)

Wow, this is an interesting year.  Only one team finished with a winning record and didn't make the playoffs: the Browns.

Teams entering the playoffs on winning streaks

New England 16
San Diego 6
Washington 4
Tennessee 3

Can someone explain to me why Matt Millen still has a job with the Lions????  Thats one screwed up franchise!

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (1/1/2008 6:11:26 PM)

Ed,

Some things just defy explanation.[:D]

shhhh, ed.  don't call attention to it.  the longer he's there the better.

i did just see something that he was the HIGHEST PAID nfl executive until Parcells' new deal, and now Smith, who's the best in the game as far as I'm concerned.

So Millen is still the 3rd highest paid front office guy in the NFL!  How crazy is that?

Guest -> RE: NFL News (1/1/2008 7:04:24 PM)

And the Lions franchise wonder why they are stuck in the dregs of mediocrity....

Kinda' like when the Bucks made George Karl the highest paid coach in the history of professional sports, even though he had zero rings.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (1/1/2008 7:56:01 PM)

Smith is a little overrated to me.  His bungling of the coaching situation in San Diego took them from Super Bowl contender to also-ran.

He also kept the wrong QB.

It really looks like it doesn't it?

djskillz -> RE: NFL News (1/1/2008 8:39:09 PM)

That may be, for now.  And he should have just retained Wade Phillips and made him coach, but still:

Michael Vick and Eli Manning
for
Nate Kaeding (PB K), Shawn Merriman (PB defensive player), Drew Brees (PB QB), Philip Rivers (PB QB), and LT (the best player in football)

That alone gives him a LOT of leeway in any other area.  He has assembled as much talent or more talent than any other team in football in a very short period of time.  Ultimately, that is a GM's first job.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (1/1/2008 9:35:49 PM)

The GM's job is also to keep the best QB (Brees) and the best coach.

He made some bold moves and went backwards.

Well, I think he made the right move in firing Marty.  But yes, not keeping Wade was a mistake.

I don't fault him for the QB approach.  He had Rivers locked up (who still does have a lot of potential) and noone knew if Brees was going to be the same qb again when he went down with an injury.  Hindsight is 20/20, but at the time, it sure looked (at least to me) like he made the right move there too.  He tried to sign Brees to a 1-year deal with TONS of incentives, and Brees didn't go for it.  I don't know what more he should have reasonably done, given Brees' state and the signs that Rivers was showing.

And yes, I still think Rivers can become a very good QB.

Ravens Fire Rex Ryan
Wed Jan 2, 2008

The New York Daily News reports the Baltimore Ravens fired DC Rex Ryan on Monday with the rest of former HC Brian Billick's staff. The Baltimore Sun adds when the Ravens fired Billick, they dismissed his entire coaching staff. But every assistant has one year left on his contract, which will be honored by the team. Despite his firing, Ryan is a candidate for the Ravens head coaching job.

Pretty good track record for Ryan, he'll get snapped up.

djskillz -> RE: NFL News (1/2/2008 9:02:59 AM)

I'd actually be kind of shocked if Ryan is NOT the Ravens next head coach.

Mr. Ed -> RE: NFL News (1/2/2008 9:36:45 AM)

Chiefs fired Offensive Coordinator, 3 assistants. Herm keeps his job.

Solari, offensive line coach John Matsko, wide receivers coach Charlie Joiner and running backs coach James Saxon were fired. Solari, Joiner and Saxon were holdovers from former coach Dick Vermeil's staff.

An opportunity for Bill Callahan.  He is more OC than head coach material in my mind.
